"Imaginary Lover" was the 2nd of Atlanta Rhythm Section's 2 Top 10 hits. The first was "So Into You" which peaked @ #7 in 1977 and "Imaginary Lover" also peaked @ #7 in 1978.
They reacted to "So Into You" about 4 months ago, but I think they forgot.

Love ARS. If you want real baby making music, you need to listen to So Into You. Spooky is another great song. A total vibe with two guitar solos and one keyboard solo

For a great band you haven't covered yet, I recommend one of the 60's most memorable bands, The Union Gap. "Young Girl" was their biggest hit.
That's a cool song, but I always liked better "Woman (have you got cheating on your mind?)".

Mylon LeFevre was lead vocals on Imaginary Lover and So Into You. I don’t know if he did any other vocals for them or not.
He went on to sing gospel after his stint with ARS.
RIP Mylon Lefevre. Died Sept. 8, 2023 of cancer.
@@cameo_celeste LeFevre sang on one song with ARS, "Jesus Hearted People." Show me your reference that he was lead on "Imaginary Lover." He wasn't even near the band when they recorded the album "Champagne Jam" on which this song appeared.
This song gives me chills every time. That vocal is haunting.
You need to check out the Classic IV. Two of ARS members were original members of the band. The sound is similar. Spooky, Traces, Sunny and Stormy are some of their hits.
J.R. Cobb and bandmate Dean Daughtry from Classic IV later became part of the Atlanta Rhythm Section and re-recorded "Spooky" in 1979.

I grew up in Atlanta. I have seen ARS and sat backstage with them many times. Great music, great people, and great times!
ARS - one of the most underrated bands of the 70s. Love Ronnie Hammond's voice and especially Barry Bailey's tasty guitar riffs.
This is one of the great songs written. The arrangement is incredible and very jazzy.
Youve done ARS once before, I am SO glad you are finally checking these guys out again! I was a personal friend of the bassist. Paul Goddard... amazing human being. Oh, and amazing bassist! He's in the GA Rock & Roll Haal of Fame for the best live bass solo ever! (Champagne Jam)
I went to school with Paul from the 6th grade thru high school. He was a really good guy. He tried to teach me how to play a guitar but I just don't have any talent.

Love the smooth rhythm, yet rock edges to it. I get similar vibes from “I Can’t Tell You Why” by The Eagles done in their later period.
LOL.Another of those catchy songs that I had NO IDEA what it was about until well into adulthood. Right up there with 'Afternoon Delight' & 'She Bop'.

Our high school won a contest from Care Free Gum. ARS played a concert in our high school gym-about 1977-78.
So into you is their most famous song and I think their best. They’re not southern rock, they’re pop/rock and found their way to FM radio 👍 great band

"Spooky" was pretty popular too. It was originally done by Classics IV whom, from what I understand contained some members of ARS. The Classics IV version is cool but the Atlanta Rhythm Section version has more kickass harmonizing guitar leads and a cooler vibe.😎

Another late 70's vibe you need to check out is Pablo Cruise! Love Will Find a Way & Whatcha Gonna Do were big hits with a smooth groove.

At the time word got around that a radio deejay somewhere in the Midwest accidentally played the album version (33 1/3 RPM) at single speed (45 RPM) - faster, obviously -and the listening audience thought it was Fleetwood Mac (Stevie on vocals) !!! I had the album, tried it, and ….TRUE! Wild! I recorded it on cassette and played it for years!!
I wish there was someway you two could hear it!!
Went to see them live many times in Atlanta at the Fox Theater and Champagne Jam concerts in the 70’s. Great band and great song.

I went to a Champagne Jam on New Years Eve 1978 in West Palm Beach. The Guess Who opened for them.

Great band from the 70’s. They hosted concerts at Georgia Tech’s Grant Field in 1978 and 1979 called The Champaign Jam. (Named for their song, you’d luv it). I attended the 79 concert. Twelve hours, six bands for $25.00. (25 bucks went a long ways in those days) Line up included Aerosmith, the Cars, A R S and Mother’s Finest ( To me, they stole the show!) Check out Champaign Jam next, great song.
Mothers Finest is so great, I've seen them here in NC about 12 times. They are legendary black metal funk and I've worn out their album, Another Morher Further"

Some members of the 60s band, Dennis Yost & the Classics IV, left the band in 1970 to work in recording sessions and form what became the Atlanta Rhythm Section.

Yes! ARS is a great band. Southern Rock and at the same time a band that was unique compared to most mainstream southern rock bands.

OMG! You have got to check out So Into You, Georgia Rhythm, Doraville (which is an Atlanta suburb) Champagne Jam. They had so many hits and such a wide variety of ‘Southern’ rock.
They’re from Georgia. Back in the 70s, the hosted a huge New Year’s Eve party called The Champagne Jam. It was THE place to be, kind of like Atlanta’s version of the Times Square party.
Atlanta Rhythm Section - "Champagne Jam" is also great.

Being from Atlanta, Atlanta rhythm section was huge in these parts! Next song you need to react to is “So Into You”. Everybody would sing this when it came on the radio. And the decade of the 70s had some of the greatest music with all genres making the charts.
Definitely check out their version of “Spooky”.

70s light rock is what i call this. There were many many songs like this in the 70s
When I was a kid growing up in Tennessee in the late 70s, ARS were huge second only to Skynyrd. ARS had a groove that, well all Southern rock (isn't all rock Southern in origin?) has a groove but Atlanta Rhythm Section had a groove that was sultrier and sleeker than their contemporaries. I am so glad ya'll liked it and would encourage ya'll to check out "So Into You" or "Champagne Jam".

Atl Rythm Sec used to headline a big music festival at Ga Tech’s stadium in the late ‘70s. Champagne Jam, with groups like Mothers Finest, Humble Pie etc. Good Music

This song brings back great memories of my 1st concert. It was Summer Jam 78 at the Providence Civic Center in Providence RI. The lineup was Foghat, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, Sweet and ARS. You wouldn't think they would fit into that lineup but they absolutely di d. Just an amazing first concert and I would be remissed not to mention it was on my 16 birthday!

CHAMPAGNE JAM!! That has to be next. The song was so famous here in the ATL they named an annual summer rock festival after it. Plus, it's funky AF.

ARS was the first concert I ever went to. I saw them in Clemson SC when I was 13 or 14.
