    I always loved this set. It was a 1980s version of what the future might hold.

    I have no doubt that Elaine hadn't faltered on her 6th game she would've at least made it to the $50,000 game.

      I don't know if they actually eliminated the $50,000 game around that time Elaine had her run.

    Seems to me like this the is same Elaine in the RHona-Jim-Elaine episode a clip is posted from on UA-cam. That clip comes from the USA rerun, and USA reran September 1988 daytime episodes, but GSN only ran Nov 1988-Mar 1989 daytime episode. Damon Jones won $9048 on Press your LUck on 5/15/85(he is seen in the intros often after that, the guy who wins after hitting Key Biscayne)

      Sadly Jay committed suicide in September of 1989. His daughter committed suicide 8 years prior and he never really got over it. That combined with chronic back pain allegedly caused by years of lifting heavy trays at awkward angles on let's make a deal for many years he became severely depressed and turned to alcohol which was the reason he was fired from Sale.

    In my humble opinion, I never liked the late version of $ale, only because the Big Winners Money Game took the show off it's original format.
    It would have worked if it was combined with the original Shopping Bargain $ale, but the go with the flow big money trend doomed this format.

    • @GameShowMike
      @GameShowMike 7 років тому +1

      sugarbear522 By 1984, NBC executives put pressure on the show to implement a traditional bonus game. Sale capitulated and implemented the Winner's Board, which was a prize matching game. The show's success in daytime spawned a nighttime version which went with the more traditional shopping endgame. The Winner's Big Money Game was implemented in 1988.

    • @JoeyLamontagne
      @JoeyLamontagne 6 років тому

      They could've easily done what Temptation in Australia later on did and made the WBMG be added to the jackpot, and still kept the big board or revert back to the shopping format. Not only would the jackpot be much higher due to effort, but at least kept with the spirit of SOTC.

      @@GameShowMike Some say Reg Grundy Productions should have refused NBC's demands and either took Sale to ABC, FOX, CBS or went back to Syndication rather than comply with changing the format.

      @@chrismc410 he should've took it to Fox, and brought Scrabble along with it. That would've been a perfect portfolio for a then-new network like Fox.
