11:34 I've actually been thinking a lot about left handedness and Si vs Se lately, so I'm glad he brought that up. Me, my mom, and my sister are all left handed but my mom is the only one of us who cares about the particulars of the items she uses and where she sits. She has to sit at the end of the table so that she doesn't bump arms with anyone sitting next to her, or sit at a lefty desk, or use lefty scissors, or play instruments left handed. She uses Si. Me and my sister would just adapt to using the right handed objects, to the point where it feels awkward using certain lefty items now, and it's much easier to throw right handed. We both use Se. I want to say there is a correlation but I don't have enough info on that to give a definite conclusion, but it would make sense that Si users generally would care more about that.
If anyone reading this is left handed: are you particular about the objects you use? Do you do everything left handed, or do you only use your left hand for writing/eating and do everything else right handed? And do you use Si or Se?
ha ha. i was thinking the same thing about his drum story. this was one of the most significant events for one of the most signifiant musicians in the past 50 years, and he's so ho hum about it. :)
I was literally thinking “God why is this story so boring to me? I guess it’s because of the low intuition and feeling?” When Rose brought it up in a far more polite way 🤣 He’s just relaying what happened without any emotion. I’m an INFP so that’s something I crave to find a story interesting 😅
What are you looking for in the story, do you think?
Phil Collins has tertiary Fi. You discussed in other videos that Fi is the fountain of motivation, the source of human drive. I don't understand why something as potent and stark as that can manifest as nonchalantly as it does. I was under the impression before that Fi in the lower slots was something that the XXTJ resented or felt hindered them. In other words, the "weakness" of the function was not so much that it lacked manifestation, but it was rejected/resented by the person. Phil Collins makes it seem like the function isn't even being used. How can something as deep as Fi be so weakly used? How can you feel so strongly about something yet not express it? The only way this could be possible would be if it was a Si vs Se thing, not Fe vs Fi. That means Chris, with Fi and Se, should be more inclined to actually express his Fi in his mannerisms which becomes evident when listening to you guys over the span of very small segments.
I think the misconception largely stems from the view that the lower slotted functions are all this way to some degree. This is definitely where the misconception of the ISFJ being a very weak thinker stems from and why so many of these academic ISFJ types are seen to be INTJ, because that’s our stereotype. “I was under the impression that the Fi in the lower slot was something that the xxTJ resented or felt hindered him”. In a similar way, I could state the ISFJ resented or considered their thinking to hinder them, but nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, the third slot Ti of an ISFJ is their special power, in so many ways. This is much the same for an INTJ/ISTJ in feeling. Why? I think it’s about the whole stack. The INTJ has a specific way of being which makes him incredibly intuitive and analytic. In some ways, this is applied to feeling too. It definitely gives a certain level of self-clarity, which can be very powerful, convicted, and emotional. These things can be different manifestially, between male and female INTJs. In this comment so far, I’ve not spoken a great deal about ISTJs because I am not one, and the differences/similarities between our two types are yet to be fully understood. It’s definitely quite a challenge because we’re both extremely closed-off emotionally. But as I understand it, we are exactly the same, from what I can observe, in this Fi way.
“Phil Collins makes it seem like the function isn’t being used.” I think what you’re seeing here is a difference in circumstantial and his thinking disposition in general. The circumstantial being he is in an interview in person, perhaps not a natural interviewer, perhaps does not like interviews, etc. The nature of the interview is also not particularly emotional and is more factual. “This is how it happened.” In my opinion, he’s definitely sentimental. He’s definitely concerned about how things were in his relaying of his experiences, etc. This is partly an Fi thing in my opinion.
“How can something as deep as Fi be so weakly used?” Is it really? Listen to Phil Collins’s music. It’s known to be deep and moving kind of stuff, which is one of the reasons it has such mass appeal. He writes from a place of understanding of feeling with himself, so there’s this fundamental truth to all the things he writes about in some way. I’m sure people would listen to “Against All Odds” and think that Phil Collins really gets it. I would definitely recommend having a listen of the song (watch the live aid 1985 version). There’s a lot of intensity and emotion there.
To say that Fi is hindered or resented is not exactly true. It’s powerful but it is more of a personal struggle because we are predisposed to thinking. We are used to using our thinking function to solve all of our problems. Then suddenly, you come across a problem that cannot be solved by thinking. This can be very frustrating for someone who can extensively use their thinking disposition to solve 99% of their problems.
It goes to show that people need each other because you can’t provide answers to everything just by yourself. This is why the LewTube himself is such a valuable commenter here, and the emotional disposition is precisely why I refer to him in the third person. Rose and I are both low in sensing and the ability for you to take all of our points and analyse them in your own Ti way and present them and ask for clarification that we can respond to is really important. We definitely could not track all of this stuff we say. I can’t even remember what I had for breakfast this morning. -Chris
