In this video, I talk about what Thrips are and how to get rid of them. Thrips are a common pest and enemy that can really harm your dragon fruit plants if not taken care of and controlled right away. They will keep your plants from being able to grow buds, flower, and make fruit. You definitely want to get red of them. I use spinosad because it's the only treatment I've found to work completely.

Have you guys seen thrips on your plants?
Yess really hate them 😂😂 they are a pain
@@RiveraaG27hahaha same here! Get rid of them all 😂
They just come with vengeance just like u Said 😂😂
@@RiveraaG27 Go out there and show them who's boss!! haha
Outside on my balcony, I am sure there are some. But there are kinds of insects. All plants grew records heights and nice yields, so I dont mind. And none of the tomato or pepper pods have any damage/bite marks. As long as my stuff is not damaged, I tolerate breakdancing cows or goats doing their yoga thing.
I like how you search up information in order to come up with effective ways to treat our dragon gruit possesions and share it with us to save us a lot of time. Thank you.
Man wat a great video. We don't need organic we need to protect the plants at all cost thank you!!!!
💯💯💯
Good info. Thank you!I was wondering what they were and now I know how to get rid of them.
Glad I could help!
And this right here is why ur channel is among the best for this reason right here. Teaching me wat you have learned amazing 👏
Thanks my bro, appreciate the kind words 🙏🏼
As soon as I saw this video I went to check my Rainbow, AX, and Desert King varieties. They’re newer cuttings that have been showing stunted growth and sure enough… they are present on all 3.
Time to prepare for battle 😜
Could you please do a video of the soil that you use and how to keep it up for the dragon fruits to be happy?
Yes that one is coming soon
@@GraftingDragonFruit thank you so much!
Dude, they have motorized versions of that sprayer. Watching you pump that thing got ME tired 😂
have to get a workout in at the same time 🤣
The reason I like simple pump sprayers is that there is less that can go wrong with them, and if something does go wrong with them, they are less expensive to replace. We all have our preferences.
LOL, millennials don't like physical labor. LOL!! Pump away son, it's good for you.
@@rd4660 who “enjoys” physical labor?? Labor means works. I would rather do something physical out of enjoyment. Work smarter, not harder.
@@bethb8276 That is true. I will give you that.
I would be interested in how you would treat rust on your dragon fruit! There’s a lot of ways that people suggest but sometimes as you said in dealing with thrips you need to consider a chemical fungicide. I also think people need to realise that even organic pesticides and fungicides are still as harmful to many beneficial bacteria, good insects and pollinators as chemical means are. We all need to be cautious even with using the organic versions. Food for thought!
I have a video on rust on the channel!
Have you tried diatomaceous earth on the DF to kill thrips? It kills other insects and does not harm the plant or fruit.
Yes I have and it didn’t work for thrips for me
I know BT is an organic recommendation for many pests with Spinosad reserved for hard body pests. Did you try BT?
If they build immunity to spinosad a & d it will not matter if you change to another bottle with another etiquette... They will be immune to the spinosad....
That's why you have to be strategic when using these
Thank for sharing 💪🏼
My pleasure!
Ya, spinosad is good, easy to find in California. Good on aphids and all of the nasty garden worms. And you said it wasn't organic, but it is, accepted by the USDA National Organic Program.
Suggestions for slugs around dragon fruit?
Try some slug prevention methods around the base of the pot
Have you tried systemic inscecticide like imidacloprid etc during the offseason? Contact sprays havent worked for me
Hey Richard hope you can answer a question I have. Can I use haleys comet pollen on physical graffiti and the other way around ?
No, they are related so using their pollen might fail.
@GraftingDragonFruit thank you for clarifying
@@gustav9.9 You're welcome!
Hi, thanks for this video.
Am new into dragon fruit and have been learning a lot from your channel and now I believe am ready to go.
Hope it’s possible to obtain a few cuttings for my demonstration garden here in Uganda.
Unfortunately, I don’t ship internationally at this time
@@GraftingDragonFruit unfortunate for me.
Any recommendations to anyone who could get me a few cuttings
Hi I love your channel and love how you share. Are these products effective on grasshoppers on Cannabis and are they safe ? Thank you
I am not 100% but you can see what pests they're good for on the labels
Love your content on dragon fruit. I have polaris but the thrips attack my vietnamese red dragon fruit.
Thanks for watching. Time to attack them back!
I am from Trinidad WI I love the fruit very much but how do i get the plant
Trying asking in my Facebook group. Some one might be around that area
no thrips on mine, I do have ants though, do you have any idea how to handle em? they're always eating the buds, new growths etc.
Have you tried using ant bait?
Diatomaceous earth is a great way to get rid of ants
Ants could be a sign there are aphids as ants like to farm aphids for the honeydew they produce. Or during hot summers ants look for pots to hide and live in for moisture
Are you talking about ants in your potted plants? I had a severe ant problem in my potted citrus plants and was told to lift the pot off the ground even just a small lift with 1/4" height with small rocks or tiles. I repotted the plants and put a lift under the (large) pots and the ants never returned. I now do this with all my large potted plants and no longer have an ant problem.
Hi Richard, I have a problem with earwigs eating my new shoot of my dragon fruit. Do you know how to get rid of it? Thanks in advance.
You can spray them with dishwashing soap and water
Have you researched or tried dawn dishwashing soap diluted with water? I use it as a non-toxic pesticide around the house.
Yes that doesn’t work for thrips as a more permanent solution
@@GraftingDragonFruit bummer
I have noticed yellow jackets and hornets working my dragon fruit. I only have 2 fruit this year it is my first year for fruiting.. are they harmful to the fruit, should I be worried?
They are just eating the nectar and dew thats releasing from your dragon fruits. They don’t harm the fruits but may sting you so be careful around them.
Bro i did a crazy thing i was grafted apple catus to dragon fruit plant did it works 😅😅
Nice!!!
Another question. Are these products systemic or contact??
They are contact
Will this also kill ants?
Try using ant baits first
I live in Miami zone 10b what 4 self pollinating varieties do you recommend
Have a video coming out on my top 5
I got some animals called "scale insect" on some winterhardy cacti. The only way to get rid of them is to "Mike Tyson" them, personally. And usually you dont want to have your hands too close to a spine kingdom...
Oh man, sounds like a tough battle
@@GraftingDragonFruit yes, no. We are NOT talking about pleasing my wife inna bedroom? Cause that is way worse than a battle...
Hello,I follow your channel with interest,I recommend it to my environment. There is interest in dragon fruit in my country. We request Turkisch subtitles for your videos.Thank you.
Have you tried the auto-translate subtitle option YT has?
Any idea for root lice or root pests ?? I have a lemon tree, I acquired and is root ball is loaded 😥
I haven't had any experience with those
I'm out in my garden like yourself, hand picking bugs all the time. Flea beetles, etc. I'm in Florida with high humidity so all kinds of bugs. Might you have RED Chrystal dragonfruit and is it self pollinated fertile? It's red flesh with high sugar content, 20 brics.
I don’t have red Chrystal
UA-camr whether legit or not shows high brix numbers and beautiful red flesh. I don't know where the farm is, possibly Latin America or Asia. Red Crystal fruit.
Hey Richard, have you read anything on using nicotine sprays? I've heard that nicotine and the cholinergic compounds in tobacco, which I'm about to start growing, act as excitotoxins for most insects, basically like a cocaine OD would be for us.
I haven't looked into that yet, but I will now
I have 2 indoor med size pots now I have read that some killers attract ants I don't have ants will this attract them to come indoors. Please help😟
I can’t say for sure because ants are attracted to many things
Just use neem oil.....
Doesn’t work
can't we fight them with lady bugs?
Yes but lady bugs aren’t always around
Your plants condition are not good at all
They are producing great
