Introductory Calculus: Oxford Mathematics 1st Year Student Lecture
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 жов 2019
- In our latest student lecture we would like to give you a taste of the Oxford Mathematics Student experience as it begins in its very first week. In this first lecture in the Introductory Calculus course Dan Ciubotaru summarises how the course works and what we expect the new students to already
know in order to ensure all of them are prepared for the more complex work ahead.
All first and second year lectures are followed by tutorials where students meet their tutor to go through the lecture and associated problem sheet and to talk and think more about the maths. Third and fourth year lectures are followed by classes.
You can also watch many other student lectures via our main Student Lectures playlist (also check out specific student lectures playlists): • Oxford Mathematics Stu...
Dad: What have you learned today?
Me: My lecturer’s name is Dan.
Dan Ciubotrau, he’s Romanian
And he works at a car wash below the minimum wage 😂😂😂
Sean Hean- and he ended up almost killing his classmate in 6th grade because they made fun of his accent. So that’s fun.

Suddenly, over the intercom:

Well....He pretty much covered almost all of my high school calculus in just the first introductory lecture. You can only imagine how harder things get from here.
Calculus is just calculus even later on
Calculus is actually harder in the earlier stages. I would say calculus 2 is the hardest as they go hardcore in depth into integration principles and how they apply to getting areas which for engineering can be useful for getting volumes of an object that has a changing volume. Calc 3 is taking all that and just throwing it in 3D.
@@zexcthd5519 yes, calc 2 is one the weed-out courses in engineering along with thermo, dynamics(sometimes even statics as people don't expect phys 1 sem 1 problems to be as complex as you can make them) and circuits. those courses are much harder than the previous or following course so they end up flunking a lot of folks out.
all degrees have these courses - chem/bio has orgo, nursing has phyiscs/orgo, math has calc 2, etc. What you find is a lot of the weed out courses are the same across degrees - it's the course and not really the person, genreally. You can extrapolate meaning from that but I found it interesting.
This brought back some bad memories

Are you not Indian?
Oxford: So, How many boards do you want?
Teacher: Yes.
yoooo the amount of boards there are is actually so cool though
Idk if you're either joking or genuine but this is exactly how universities have their boards in lecture halls
Why are they not using a projector? All this writing takes way longer.
Felix Because when he’s done writing in that square he pulls down the next to write on and then what he just wrote on the other board is still visible to the whole class. I thought it was genius when I first saw and realized it

One of the few things I like in these modern times is the fact that everybody who can afford an internet bill can follow the lessons of the greatest universities in the world. Not too along time ago only the best and the richest guys and girls in the world could have this priviledge. You will not have a piece of paper with "Oxford Universitiy" written on top of it, but the knowledge is inside of you, and this is just priceless, no matter if you live in Bel Air, Cheliabinsk, Soweto or in a San Paolo Favela (just to name a few, no hate, please). The people at oxford are relearning one year of calculus in one hour and I'm here wondering how the board works
It’s on a loop if that makes sense. If he kept pulling down from the one he’s writing on, it would eventually come back to the same one. We had whiteboard and chalkboards like this in school.

as a romanian i was surprised to find out he is from romania
it's honestly not that impressive (at least not much more than knowing calculus itself), it's possible that he learned high level maths in english, so it's second nature at that point. It might even become hard to explain it in his first language just because he's so used to it
I watch this video so i can sleep. I always fall asleep in class during math so I figured why not willingly find a video explaining math and just let my entertainment die out and ill sleep.
Ahhhh, I can't believe that I literally am attending oxford online just for calculus. I wish I could get admission in Oxford university for my post graduation 🎓
