    This peerless Greenwich Village carriage house with curb cut garage, melds old and new, public and private, indoors and outdoors, in a way that nods to life in New York City itself. Painstakingly gut-renovated and ultra-flexible, currently configured as three bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms, and expansive ground-floor space with breathtaking designer interiors throughout. Currently zoned as mixed-use, this 1829 house was built on land owned by the third Vice President of the United States, Aaron Burr. Today, the structure is among the city’s oldest and most photographed thanks to star turns in House Beautiful, Elle, The Wall Street Journal and two coffee table books.
    Located within the Greenwich Village Historic District, the 25-foot-wide carriage house underwent a thorough renovation that salvaged and restored much of the cherished historic detail while adding compelling, unexpected modern touches. Some of the original wood joists needing replacement were repurposed as shelving, while others are still intact. The 3,600-square-foot building welcomes indoor-outdoor living and lavish entertaining on the second floor, where exposed beams rise over wide-plank hardwood floors, and a wall of folding glass doors opens the level entirely to the nearly 900-square-foot terrace. Imagine glorious al fresco gatherings surrounded by ivy-covered brick walls and the sights of the Village. A well-equipped outdoor kitchen with a gas grill is perfect for summer barbecues, while the unique sunken garden and firepit provide a stunning focal point with peek-a-boo views into the ground-floor space below. Inside, the extraordinary open kitchen dazzles with a massive waterfall quartz island/breakfast bar trimmed in wood and topped with copper pendants. The full suite of Miele appliances includes a range with a retractable down vent, a dishwasher, drawer microwave and wine refrigerator.
    Ascend the industrial-chic open staircase to discover the top floor’s private quarters. The sun-kissed primary suite features a wall of glass overlooking the skylit staircase and a serene spa bath with floor-to-ceiling large format tile, exposed shelving, a Duravit rain shower/soaking tub and floating double vanity. Two secondary bedrooms share another full bathroom outfitted with a frameless glass shower, skylight and upscale finishes.
    With a curb cut and mixed-use zoning, this home’s ground floor is a flexible open wonderland ideal as a car collector’s dream garage, an art studio or gallery space, a startup office or additional living space. Fourteen-foot tall ceilings, polished concrete floors, transom windows and glimpses into the sunken garden underscore the grand scale of the space. A powder room, laundry room, storage rooms and additional cellar storage space complete this extraordinary Downtown sanctuary.
    Located within the Greenwich Village Historic District, at the corner of Downing Street and Bedford Street, this home is surrounded by the outstanding shopping, dining and nightlife of the West Village and Meatpacking District, with the media and tech offices of Hudson Square within easy reach. Small neighborhood parks, Washington Square Park and 500-acre Hudson River Park deliver iconic outdoor space in every direction. Transportation is effortless with 1, A/C/E, B/D/F/M and PATH trains, excellent bus service and CitiBikes all nearby.

      Very enjoyable vlog, Erik! The re-use of damaged beams for the shelving was a very nice touch...and, of course, love the exposed brick. Over all, super well done reno! I could definitely live there even without a city view (though I'd have a daily view of the NYC skyline while living in my $135,000,000 dream apartment by Hiroshi Sugimoto at 432 Park Avenue).
      A question regarding the Burr house: why didn't the renovators make usable space on the roof? A suggestion: obtain an oil painting of Aaron Burr (perhaps an original done during Burr's lifetime) and hang it by the front door of the "garage." Include it in the sales price to make up for no usable roof space.

    LOL, there are so many "features" that architects love but people who actually live in homes quickly realize are absurdly impractical. *Only* open shelving in the kitchen? No pantry space or easily accessible cabinetry? (As far as I can tell, there isn't. When the camera swings around to show the whole kitchen there's nothing there opposite the island, and the only cabinets are beneath the counters.) Those admittedly gorgeous 200-year-old beams won't look quite as chic when filled with groceries like Bumble Bee tuna, Rice Krispies or Fruit Roll-ups. Or even the billionaire equivalents. And others have commented on the ridiculous glass wall that displays the master bed to anyone, including kids. I can handle the "all eyes on me" patio, because any outdoor space in NYC is wonderful. But the whole house is a big fishbowl.
    I dunno. You've got this fantastic historic figure associated with the property, but the building itself looks as if it's been dropped down from a spaceship flown by a planet of Industrial Modern-worshipping aliens.

      Didn’t like the kitchen design either, no pantry small fridge and why could I see power points. At a property at this price point that’s just sloppy. I like the idea of the large window in the master bedroom room to let in light, if it was one that can frost over at the flick of a switch.

    • @silvia6790
      @silvia6790 2 роки тому +2

      I like how open shelving looks but it’s so impractical! First off, where do I put my plates and glasses and everything? Having enough storage in a kitchen is vital and believe me, without upper cabinets, everything is going to be cramped. And even if you can make the open shelves work, then you’ll have to clean them every week and that’s just a terrible waste of time. And why on Earth is there a window to the staircase in the master’s bedroom? And don’t even get me started on the shower.

    Sunken fire pit is a huge minus for me. Just steals space with the railing and the stairs. Yeah, i would like to see the city regulations for open fires and smoke emissions. In many western countries you can no longer just burn whatever you want in the city, because of pollution.

    Nice one. Very neatly done video and we truly appreciate all the efforts. It's wonderful to see such a huge apartment . I like the fact that how spacious this one is with cool features and an old NYC feel. I myself was in NYC for a couple of months and it felt great living there. Thanks for sharing the info and very good luck to you for more success. Thank you

    Winter time: while the car is filling the remaining space with its exhaust fumes, freezing wintery weather is also sucked in,
    making for a unique experience for those still in the house.

    It's a beautiful house, but I think that it had more charm and personality before. Perhaps if the architects/designers of the home blended the charm of the original look of the house with modern interior design, maybe that would've made something cool? Or maybe it could've had a more industrial look.
