If you explore the Eastern Kingdoms, I believe between Hillsbrad and Undercity, you should find an area that has Dalaran labeled in it's title. Dalaran used to be a much larger ground city. Archimonde destroyed most of it, except a piece of Dalaran was lifted from the ground to escape. I would assume that's the jist of it, but if you really wanted to get deep into the lore, you could probably find websites that explain it in thorough detail.
Because the world tree was not built on Eredar magic. Dalaran was largely constructed on the magic that the Eredar gave to the high elves when they were consorting at the Well of Eternity. This is the very same magic mages, and warlocks use... The same base. Whereas, Druid and Shaman magic has it's base from Azeroth itself... and since the World Tree was essentially an embodiment of the night elves and their longevity, it was rich in Druidic magic.
The final shot of just the empty circle with his handprint and the scattered dust while you hear the entire city crumbling down in the background is actual cinema. They could've made it really flashy with infernals falling from the sky or something else, but I think they did the right call in doing it like this.
Shadowriver Yeah but an announcment trailer is with much lower quallity then an expension trailer, you can't compare an expension trailer or WC3 cinmetic to an announcment trailer.

So it all takes Dalaran to be destroyed without using any army or siege weapons but a couple of Voodoo magic spells, a Sand Castle and a big hug from Archimonde.
They put up the bubble a while AFTER the city was destroyed, so that they could rebuild it uninterrupted. It was probably the whole of Kirin Tor that put up the bubble.
"Let this scar signify the first blow against the mortal world. From this seal shall arise the doom of men, who in their arrogance thought to weild out fire as their own. Blindly they built their kingdoms upon stolen knowledge and conceit. Now they shall be consumed by very flame they thought to control." @@preds43 And now nearly a year later more. I remember watching this videos for the first time and being blown apart. I can not understand how did 15 years go so fast. Still playing but even 1/4 as much, sadly.
What's interesting about this is that Archimode is using what's called *"sympathetic magic"* or; "like affects like". By creating a representation or model of the things he wanted to manipulate and destroy in this case the mage city of Dalaran with the ensorceled sands and there by establishing a sympathetic link to its targets whatever he did to the scale representations would resonant with the real things. This kind of reciprocation spell allowed for the remote control of the doomed city and bringing about its destruction.
Before the big hole there was a large dome of arcane energy. Basically an experiment gone wrong from the ingame lore. After the rebuild for a second time they take off and go to northrend leaving a crater.
When Archimonde and Kil'Jaeden took Sargeras's offer of power and knowledge** The Naaru helped them escape to Azeroth. Velen didn't know where to go and his hope was all lost and the Naaru guided him and told him what to do. My source is World of Warcraft: Chronicles of War( Rise of the Horde)
Er, this *is* the lore. Archimonde destroyed Dalaran, you can see him doing it right above, official Blizzard cutscene and everything. The scourge invaded it beforehand (the mission before this cutscene in fact), grabbed the bits needed to summon Archimonde, summoned him and then he destroyed the city.
I love this bullshit. It's best when people complain about Mists of Pandaria that way. "LOL cartoon pandas, how pathetic". Yeah, there's background lore of soulcrushing brutality, slavery, genocide, and the whole place has a Lovecraftian undertone. Sha are clearly shoggoth, mantid are very likely Mi-go, and Y'Shaarj is a Great Old One. Even in the current time when you're there, a sentient race is purposely sending their own children to be slaughtered to "weed out the weaklings". But hey, cartoon pandas, so it's so kiddie right?
That was sort of stupid. A sand castle? I was hoping to see him blow Dalaran the fuck up with epic magic. An "Overlord of the Burning Legion" shouldn't be using sandcastles to destroy things >.>
I think it shows his intelligence better to do it this way. Instead of expending ridiculous amounts of traditional arcane energy to destroy it directly, he uses what is essentially a demonic voodoo doll to do the job for him, directing the energies where he wants them. This way, he doesn't need to risk his own life. This is what makes him one of the leaders, rather than one of the minions. He is smarter than your average demon.
***** now World Tree is different thing, he wanted to siphon the energies of the well of eternity through the world tree, he can't do it from distance, otherwise he could do it from Dalaran if it was possible. You can't compare a city with well that was created by titans and later illidan.
LanstussWoW Actualy, why he didint flated defender's camps to ground with voodoo and then just marched to the tree instead of waiting like a idiot for minions to finish weakening camps ._.
soldiersPL I believe he thought they won't be much of a threat since scourge sweapt through humans and elves easly. He 1-shotted Night Elf base because he fought them before during war of the ancients and knew they're way more dangerous than orcs and humans.

Also, Velen (originally an Eredar) turned on Archimonde and Kil'Jaeden because of his visions of Eredar becoming demons. He became the Prophet of the Naaru. He is as close as current Draenai get to the Eredar race.
"Let this scar signify the first blow against the mortal world... From this seal shall arise the doom of men... who, in their arrogance thought to wield our fire as their own... Blindly they built their kingdoms upon stolen knowledge and conceit... Now they shall be consumed by very flame they thought to control..." Archimonde takes a handful of sand and spills some of it, it rises into the shape of Dalaran city." "Let the echoes of doom resound across this wretched world, that all who live may hear them and despair."
Totally agree, nobody owns anything, everyone borrows from everyone and they make it nice in their own way, make us see similar things through different points of view.
@MrGorxx Actually 25 lvl 70 players couldn't kill him. Lorewise- all of the azeroth's armies(25 players) stood their ground and tried to distract archimonde until Malfurion's trap was ready. When they held him at bay long enough, they summoned all the wisps and spirits of azeroth to sacrifice themselves and kill archimonde. This also resulted in the world tree being destroyed and Night elves losing their immortality
Actually, they are all Eredar. The ones that followed Kil'jaeden and Archimonde became twisted demons called "man'ari". However, with the help of the Naaru, Velen (another eredar leader) and the non-corrupted eredar fled into exile aboard the Exodar (yes, the capital city) and took the name "draenei" (which translates into exiled ones). On a side-note, the naaru were also the ones that gave draenei the power to connect with the Holy Light esentially allowing them to become paladins.
The description is wrong btw people, while yes, Archimonde is demonic. He is not a demon, he is from the Draenei home world Argus, and is a Eredar. Just thought I'd clear that up.

I would assume that's the jist of it, but if you really wanted to get deep into the lore, you could probably find websites that explain it in thorough detail.
here we go again
I wish HFC's Archimonde had a voice as here...
This makes me angry!
Ill make a sand castle of your Theramore! Then... oh wait.. it already got destroyed hahaha!
Funny -.-
Muhahahaha
Chillout, Jaina. You don't even know what will happen in the future.
Sylvanas Windrunner Ill make a sand castle of her maybe.
this is much better quality than the warlords of draenor
Warlord of draenor hasn't got a cinematic yet you dumbass
It was an announcment trailer not a real trailer.
Name trailer is a trailer
Shadowriver Yeah but an announcment trailer is with much lower quallity then an expension trailer, you can't compare an expension trailer or WC3 cinmetic to an announcment trailer.
Name Again, trailer is a trailer, whatever amount of work you put in to it that different matter.
"Announcement trailer" only means it's a trailer made for announcement.... that it
Guys, I think Archimonde is playing SimCity.
So it all takes Dalaran to be destroyed without using any army or siege weapons but a couple of Voodoo magic spells, a Sand Castle and a big hug from Archimonde.
Destroys a whole city while building a sand castle, but gets his ass kicked by wisps.
in wow is there any mark or drawing in sand near dalaran's old location? the mark that archimonde used to destroy it?
And it happens again...
Now they shall be consumed by very flame they thought to control." Archimonde then stops to destroy Dalaran but continues afterwards; "Let the echoes of doom resound across this wretched world, that all who live may hear them and despair."
Im here with our new towels
World of Warcraft: Return of the Burning Legion
+UnlimitedChannel Looks like you got your wish.
And now we’re 2 expansions past that! Fuckin’ time man...
@@preds43 And now nearly a year later more.
This kind of reciprocation spell allowed for the remote control of the doomed city and bringing about its destruction.
i wish that blizzard bring him back,he's my favorite character
He is a fucking badass i hope they do also :D
cool that u love him too,i hope, lord of burning legion.
Can't wait to see Kil'Jaeden return!
L3ndzo83 Fake,in Warlords of Draenor, they will bring back Grom,Guldan, and more.
thefiremaster112 not fake,it's possible that kil'Jaeden be in Warlords of Draenor
Before the big hole there was a large dome of arcane energy. Basically an experiment gone wrong from the ingame lore. After the rebuild for a second time they take off and go to northrend leaving a crater.
When Archimonde and Kil'Jaeden took Sargeras's offer of power and knowledge**
The Naaru helped them escape to Azeroth. Velen didn't know where to go and his hope was all lost and the Naaru guided him and told him what to do.
My source is World of Warcraft: Chronicles of War( Rise of the Horde)
Great leader of the dark side.. very similiar to myself
Except you don't have divine armor
Doon Guards and Infernos over SS any day :p
Or maybe he had Divine armor but the pistol dealt Chaos damage.
You? Leader of the dark side? WEISSES FLEISCH
Why didn't he do this to our bases?
He is a lord of the Burning Legion, couldn't he just make a patch of dirt and use that!
It's actually stated that he could have destroy the entire base with a single hit but he decided to stay at his base for gameplay reason.
@@adamnesico In WoW, that spell he used to destroy the Night Elf base after timer ends is called "Hand of Death"
OP
If you ever feel bad at destroying your Sand Castle, remember this guy destroyed a Sand Castle with a real arcane Kingdom
You could guess what I was thinking while building sand
Castles.
From what i understand, according to the lore, Arthas destroyed Dalaran during his assault - not Archimonde.
Arthas began the siege, Archimonde finished it.
Maybe you should play Warcraft 3 before you try to chime in buddy.
Dreez76 Play Warcraft 1+2+3, instead of just reading books and playing WoW ;)
From what I understand, you shouldn't listen to Kermit the Frog
Fucking Warcraft was a lot more dark before and had that great magic. Now its fucking catered to kids from elementary school.
But hey, cartoon pandas, so it's so kiddie right?
lol one shot get rekt
"I'm here with our new towels..." Guys, never press that "cc" button on the bottom right while watching this lol
I don't know about you guys, but I would personally love to see like an animated movie of the Warcraft 3 story. That would be freaking epic.
He used a sandcastle to destroy a city. I'd say that IS epic magic.
It's funny how blizzard went from great lore to pet battles and bought mounts. #Firemetzen2016
+forsmanos You want to fire the man that created the "great lore" instead of the jackass game developers (Cory Stockton) that actually implemented "pet battles and bought mounts" Classic internet logic. Quit talking out your ass, oh wait this is youtube comments, that's all anyone does #Stfu
Metzen is the one who brought us this great lore dipshit.
WoW has great lore (all the different races, factions, lands etc) but absolutely terrible storytelling and written dialogue.
Who else is here because of 7.2 Cinematic?
Also, Velen (originally an Eredar) turned on Archimonde and Kil'Jaeden because of his visions of Eredar becoming demons. He became the Prophet of the Naaru. He is as close as current Draenai get to the Eredar race.
"Let this scar signify the first blow against the mortal world... From this seal shall arise the doom of men... who, in their arrogance thought to wield our fire as their own... Blindly they built their kingdoms upon stolen knowledge and conceit... Now they shall be consumed by very flame they thought to control..."
Archimonde takes a handful of sand and spills some of it, it rises into the shape of Dalaran city."
"Let the echoes of doom resound across this wretched world, that all who live may hear them and despair."
Because he didn't want to destroy the tree, he wanted to absorb its power.
The title should be "Archimonde plays with his sandcastles"
Totally agree, nobody owns anything, everyone borrows from everyone and they make it nice in their own way, make us see similar things through different points of view.
No, it's Dalaran. This is its' original location. It was rebuilt later, and if memory serves me, it was moved to Northrend by some spell.
I love the perspective of Archimonde standing over Dalaran, a giant looming over it
@MrGorxx Actually 25 lvl 70 players couldn't kill him.
That moment when the record skips and everyone hears you make a fool of yourself...
It was south of Undercity when this happened. You can still see the magic crater thing, it's a giant forcefield.
The description is wrong btw people, while yes, Archimonde is demonic. He is not a demon, he is from the Draenei home world Argus, and is a Eredar. Just thought I'd clear that up.
It would be so cool if we could see the sand trail in Hillsbrad in-game
"I'm here with your new towels".
I can just imagine a mage looking out his window and it like, "hey guys! Is that Archimonde building a sand castle on the hill over there?"
if all of you want this video subtulated, download the game, this is not a lore video, its a cinematic of the warcraft 3 game
Archimonde just wanted to give Dalaran a hug, that's all.
