The only thing I like better than watching Heilung is watching people listen to Heilung for the first time. I could join the chorus of suggestions of which of their songs to do next, but honestly I just want to see a full Lifa reaction video. Like the whole show, opening to close. Fylgija Ear () : "The grave is terrible to every earl, when the fixed flesh begins, the corpse cooling, to choose the earth, paleness as its bedmate. Fruits fail, joys depart, mankind ceases to be. " first in (old) german, then in old english. This describes that both sides in war mourn exactly the same. Then, in 'Futhorck', runes are rolled, and with each rune a small story is told. Depicting all things that can happen in life, but then the 'death' rune is pulled, and its all over. Death, being as much part of life, as life. Your life can be short or long, filled with events, but in the end we all roll 'death', and thats ok. That is how it is. Without 'death' as event, there would be NO events. It begins with untranslatable warchant/spell: "Hariuha laþu laukar gakar alu ole lule laukar" then a man tells about how he started as 1 in 11, who led them in battle, he prays they go to the fight, and come back home, as a whole. But when he comes back, he is only 1 in 5. Arrows struck the rest down. And there was nothing he could do, even when he could see it happen. ua-cam.com/video/h1BsKIP4uYM/v-deo.html - Hamrer Hippyer is about bringing in some prisoners: and taking revenge on them for the losses of the kinsmen. They chant: 'hang the animals' and 'blood for blood' 'a bone for a bone' 'so that wounds can heal again' Then it says: 'may this story be of any help'
Its actually a direct invocation of Wotan (Odin, but older). Alfadhiriti means Allfather. The lyrics, as well as a lot of Heilung's and Danheim's lyrics are all taken from ancient works, poems and the Elder Edda.
They will have great problems at the Dutch border if they find out they are human bones. To handle (part of) a dead body you need SO MUCH paperwork, its not funny anymore. You cannot even carry around things like a medallion with your childs teeth in it, or sell a puppet made of your hair: or human milk: if it comes from a (dead or not) human body: its almost impossible to carry it over the border into the Netherlands. The art installation that showed sliced horses (and .. humans!) had a lot of problems getting a permit. I think they faked it in the end (its plastic+paint now, not 'real humans')
@@baskoning9896 That particular concert this was filmed at was actually in the Netherlands, called Castlefest. So the seemingly already accomplished that =)
@@baskoning9896 I guess it depends on how you get there. If you if go there by bus or car from eg germany, it wouldn't be difficult. It can still be illegal, but most likely you won't get controlled.
The moment at 12:00, it always gives me shivers. It creeps me out and satisfied me at the same moment, just like she is watching onto the the deepest bottom of your soul in this glimpse of a moment...love it
That is what they do, they call it a ritual. In recent months they put out a few posts on Instagram (March 20th and 26th - and probably other but these I could find ) and Facebook explaining parts of the ritual.
I saw Heilung in 2019 on Brutal Assault festival in Czech Republic, it was breathtaking. This music in an old fortress touched something long forgotten and hidden very deep inside
yeah i bet it was a great ritual. hope everybody remembered to take a fuckin video on their smartphone and post it on social media right after they overpaid for commercial drinks....
I subscribed just because you chose this band to react to. Heilung has been a lifeline for me. I'm recovering from Alcoholism due to watching my GF die. PTSD, Depression and anxiety is a daily part of my life. But months ago I found Heilung and their music helps me get in a much better place and able to face day to day life.
That is the power of music, man. Absolutely awesome. Sorry about your loss. Alcoholism is something you’ll never truly recover from, in my opinion. You’ve gotta work at fighting it back every single day, and I say this from experience. Feel free to reach out if you ever wanna talk, cause I’ve been through it as well. Stay strong. 💪
Thank you very much. I respect how involved you are with people. Shows this isn't all about views and subscribers with you. I'll share your channel in some of the Heilung Groups I'm in.
The trivia you add in post are easily one of the best features of the videos. That, and the fact you seem to actually know what you're talking about when it comes to stage performances/preparation.
Yeah, she's using human forarm bones I do believe, they've had trouble at customs over those before. Some countries get funny about you transporting human remains across borders I guess?
Had the opportunity to see these guys live at the Viking Festival in my hometown and they were headlining the show. It was surreal, especially Maria Franz' chanting. Definitely do In Maidjan next.
Sometimes you don’t need guitars to be one hella metal band! Sometimes, all you need is a kick ass drum, a hauntingly beautiful voice, and a grunt and growl.
The only difference between Heilung using a Lap-Top and any other band, is that Heilung's Lap-Top is turned towards the crowd, so they can see what they're doing, while other bands hide it.
Very cool, I really like these kind of music! You can't go wrong with Heilung! "Wardruna - Helvegen" live with Aurora is another very good song! You may check it out someday ;)
Yes, the live one where they were in the cave? Beautiful haunting music enhanced by Aurora's pure icy vocals. I had tickets to see Wardruna last June gone , unfortunately something big came along and stopped it.
@@OrangeCopperTop I prefer the "cave" over the other as well, but I prefer the original one over all of them (the Wardruna single from like 7 years ago; Helvegen ft. Aurora is a recent collab version of the original Helvegen).
@@meganlodon I love Arora too, it's those haunting vocals, so pure. I'd love to go see her live someday. Maybe the world will have to undertake a 'new normal' whatever shapre that can be.
I was lucky enough to see them perform live in San Francisco this past January, and if you -ever- get the chance to see them live, DO IT. It will re-twist your DNA. It's unlike anything I've ever seen before or likely will again. Utterly spellbinding.
Agreed! Saw them in Denver and when i was walking back to the hotel, i felt like i could have run thru a brick wall, it is easily a top 5 concert experience
If you like them, you should definitly check out In Extremo "Herr Mannelig"! Medieval metal from Germany, often sung in german, old scandinavian, latin, hebrew, islandic and many more languages. So it´s not necessary to understand german in this case :D And again, greetings from Austria
I also appreciate that they adapt older songs, some of them are almost 1000 years old, with original lyrics and melody and put in more modern instrumentation along with very old school instruments like bagpipes, nickelharpa, hurdy-gurdy, horns, etc...
If you like In Extremo then you need to check out Tanzwut They sing in german but they have a heavier and more metal vibe to them but with the same much usage of backpipes (and even more because all members can play it) Both bands rule the medieval rock/metal scene for me
I saw Heilung live at a smallish venue (around 7500) and it was completely intense!! The video cannot capture how the singing and sounds and drums permeate the atmosphere... it resonates deep within you and the experience is definitely a deep and moving "meditative ritual"... You lose yourself in the music and come back relaxed and yet "charged" with energy! They are not using "tracks" as much as looping technology to maintain the drone of the horns and *ALL* of the sounds are produced by the performers and mixed in through the looper or just live... If you **EVER** get a chance to go to one of their 'events', DO IT!!!! I consider it to be one of the top concerts I have been to in my fifty odd years of going to live events! ...and it is much more than a "concert"... it really is an event that leaves an indelible mark on your life experiences!
I've seen them live for two times. The laptop is used for looping the horns. In the beginning the one guy, who also sings, blows the horns and loop live on the laptop the sound of the horns, so that he is able to sing later and that the hornsound is all time the same for the meditative effect in the background. Sorry for my bad english. Greetings from Germany
When I saw them in San Francisco before the Ritual I thought, Now my life will be complete. After the Ritual, my life will not be complete unless I sell everything and roadie for this band. Also this was the first concert that I have been to that the crowd was shouting "Thank you" from beginning to the end of the ritual. Heilung.
the story this song tells gets me. its a conversation between two peoples one a peaceful village, the other raiders each is speaking and telling their side and their reasoning for continuing their way of life. alfadhirhaiti is a favorite track of mine to work out to it has a great beat.
I did not know this other than some people suggesting it on Discord. Inspite of it not being my regular cup of tea, I loved this. Like you said, maybe not something I'd listen to actively all the time, but this is ideal for me as background music during work. Thanks for reacting, nice one!
According to an August 2018 interview, the instruments they use consist of: drums, including one with horse skin painted with human blood, two drums with deerskin and a drum with goatskin. Bones, including a human forearm bone and deer bones. A buffalo horn rattle.
In Maijdan is another favorite live performance, from that same concert LIFA. Having been fortunate enough to see Heilung live this past January, let me tell you, this isn't a concert, it's an EXPERIENCE. Woah. You can feel the music inside, it's so powerful. And the whole thing is presented as a ritual, complete with smoking the stage before and after the performance, calls to war, a "sacrifice", fire dancers.... They had a show scheduled at Red Rocks that was postponed due to covid. What a setting to see them, I hope they film it so everyone who can't attend will have a chance to witness it. And another suggestion, which I'm sure appears many times in this comment section because it is somwhat related: Wardrune ft Aurora - Helvegen. More primal "viking-esque" goodness.
I'm seriously considering going to the rescheduled 2021 Red Rocks show even though I'm on the east coast. Heilung looks like they would be absolutely amazing live.
Epic. Been listening to these folks for awhile now. They are definitely a "mood & feeling" music, for me. What mood & feeling, you ask? All of them. All of them.
I live in Japan, been teaching mostly college kids for about 40 years. Now in semi-retirement, I am teaching Jr. High kids in the public schools of West Tokyo. Last Halloween, I was on UA-cam, slumming around and looking for something to show the kids for that toasty warm Halloween spirit. I played a minutes of this on a huge-ass video screen for several classes of 30 or so kids at a time, and pointed out the real human bones, and the fact that they used their own blood to paint some of the instruments and costumes. LOL. Eyes wide shut, you could have heard a pin drop. Those kids will never be the same again. 😂
Down the Nordic/tribal rabbit hole you go. 😁 There are many bands I would recommend, with their songs, but there is too many (Heilung, SKALD, and Danheim to name a few). Also, if you had seen the TV Vikings, since others suggested Wardruna, Wardruna did their soundtrack, and they are also doing parts of the Assassin's Creed: Valhalla soundtrack. EDIT: I edited this without thinking, and the heart I recieved got removed.
I stumbled upon the LIFA concert BY Heilung last year.... I was immediately transfixed & watched the entire hour plus long concert... Been completely hooked ever since ❤️ They are performing in Red Rocks in CO USA Oct 2021 💓💓💓💓💓💓
I was there. I was there when this was filmed, when they first performed live. Oh man I had an out of body spiritual experience. The whole crowd kinda blended into one. I do hope I will be able to see them again.
Many people suggested "In Maidjan" by the same band, I can only second this. especially the live performance, it's incredibly powerful. Also, Heilung's "Norupo" and Wardruna's "Runaljod" share the same lyrics, might be worth checking out too. The vocalist Maria's voice is incredible, which also shows in "In Maidjan" as well as "Ulvetime" by Songleikr. This music can totally be used for meditating purposes, and most people I've introduced to their music said it had a healing effect on them, connecting them to their roots. Heilung opens their concerts with "remember that we all are brothers," which is a powerful message spread by their music as well. It connects people.
I totally recommend listening to the whole LIFA concert. It is a great experience. I just went through it again after watching your reaction. Couldn't help myself.
Who would ever known we could get a history lesson while listening to music until Heilung ,Wardruna came along.Using ancient text for their songs is brilliant.
Love Heilung, but know they're not for everyone. So glad you gave them a listen and dug their sound! (Chase reacted to Noropo by them not too long ago). They may not be great for a playlist where you want to workout or dance, etc. but they are perfect if you want to allow yourself to connect to something ancient, earthy and spiritual, imo. - Lifa was my intro to Heiilung. / Awesome that you meditate. And I love your Facts! - Request a reaction to Avatar (great videos but they're better live). I'm new to them, completely obsessed and want to 'promote' them, lol. Bloody Angel from PolandRock is a good place to start. 😀
Personally, some of their songs are great for workouts too. Alfadhirhaiti and Hamrer Hippyer are two of their songs with a great beat/chant type mix that channels what it might have been like preparing to go into battle so long ago. Great songs for the gym or at-home work outs.
@@alexjohnson2527 I think I might like Hamrer Hippyer when out hiking... I'd probably feel like I was on an ancient quest or something. But what other kinds of songs would you mix with Heilung without a shock (in difference) to the system/ears?
@@crystalrainfeather That's actually a great suggestion. It's been too long since I've been hiking. And honestly...I'm just extremely particular about setting up my music. I have one list for cardio, one for upper body, and one for lower body. I would recommend either setting a certain amount of songs on repeat, or adjusting volume levels for various songs/artists that work for you. Honestly, I listen to bands like Amon Amarth and Dimmu Borgir with this band, and I know that's not for everyone.
@@alexjohnson2527 I like Amon Amarth but am not familiar with Dimmu Borgir. My problem is I don't usually make much of a playlist, I just let random songs play, and go with it, lol (not the best idea, even out hiking or walking). Of the bands I regularly like to listen to, I'd probably have to combine Heilung with Albanach, so I could feel like I'm in ritual before going to battle, lol. My issue lately (aside from health problems making everything difficult) is that I'm obsessed with the band Avatar & a lot of their stuff is so fast & furious I can't keep up! lol
This is one of the best Heilung reactions yet, and thusly I’m a new subscriber. I’m going to see them live next year and I am so excited! If you’re into more Heilung, they have lots of great choices but their music video Norupo definitely has the shamanic vibe. I’d also be interested in hearing your breakdowns or Wardruna’s Helvegen (please look up the lyrics first or it won’t have the weight the song is meant to carry). You get tons of recommendations but the French band Skáld is also pretty incredible. All the best!
They are using a combo of live performance percussion and tracks. They also use various equilizers to amp up the base in their voices at times, (I don't know the exact terminology). And dude... for the record, why wouldn't you get into this? Metalheads are some of Heilungs most devoted audience, and usually the chillest, most openminded people. I don't count myself among you, but I really respect your crowd. And dude, I know this video is pretty old now but in case you haven't, watch and react to: ua-cam.com/video/hNu6FmaUIB0/v-deo.html&start_radio=1&ab_channel=Heilung
Hahaha your smilie at 12:02 in your video when Maria turns to look at the camera, staring into your soul SO deeply that you feel it even in the abstract. Gold.
They are throat singing- there are four cultures in the world that use throat singing, tuvans in Russia, the iniuit Indians on the Northwest coast of British Columbia, and the Xhosa an indigenous tribe in South Africa, and Heilung
You may want to use an adblocker while viewing it though, the number of commercials during the performance is disgusting. But SOOO worth watching either way. And the official video for Norupo is amazing, too.
also, the "Maria Franz of Heilung - LIFA Vocals" video that's 18 minutes long is fantastic. you'd probably geek out at how amazing she is as a human instrument.
Great video - I know you didn't say a huge amount - but your facts were awesome. I really think you would love Faun, they're a German folk band. Freuer is my favourite. Very much enjoyed, thank you.
Totally and shamelessly going to request you go back to Eluveitie and do a reaction from their Helvetios album. The first and second tracks are the Prologue and Helvetios. It's a concept album that focuses on the Gallic Wars from a perspective of the ancient Helvetians. I've heard that they even had to guess at the pronunciation of some of the words on the album as they are translating them as best they can from extant sources. I think you'd dig it.
I just booked tickets to see these guys next December, I cant fucking wait! I sleep listening to these and I always end up having lucid dreams, its an amazing group to meditate to
Saw their "lifa" show in zürich a year ago or so and oh boy let me tell you that was by far the most intense and fascinating live-expirience I ever had! I highly highly recommand you to go and see them if you ever have the slightest chance. Keep up the good work tank!
I fucking love you for fucking loving this music! It brings something out and touches something deep inside from the past. Like coming back to the source. It really means healing in a way we need it today. Will listen to it the whole autumn and winter again as last year. It never gets boring. I also think that the two kinds of singers represent two sides of life itself. Like male/female, night/day etc.
I saw these guys live in Denver just before the scourge of the current pandemic, and they evoke a very primal, almost familial energy. I was up front, right in front of a guy who used one of the larger drums, and also slid a rock across a sword's blade for this song in particular. It's still one of the most profound concerts that has burned into my memory. Oh and yeah, those are real bones, one of human origin I believe, and I think I heard one of the drums is painted in human blood? Oh, also obligatory Æther Realm recommendation - Slave to the Riff
Hey hey Tank! Been almost a year since I first saw this awesome video and have to say again this is my favorite reaction video! You nailed it. Heilung is a tribe, offering a tribe and most importantly healing. They have and continue to be a crucial part of my life, and journey as a pagan and good person
ps. the whole concert is on youtube and it is super epic, some of the instruments you can see a lot better in other songs and they are really interesting
You have to listen to that same show's opening "In Maidjan", it's one of their most hunting and beautiful, "Alfahirhaiti" is a more bad-ass, war-like one but gotta try this one too. If you like Heilung, you must listen to Wardruna. They worked a lot on the OST of History's Vikings, "Helvengen" is an absolute must, and I suggest you strongly to also listen to the FMF 2015: International TV Series Gala: Vikings suite, Trevor Morris, Einar Selvik, which is an experience on its own.
I definitley recommend listening to Nytt Land. In particular, I suggest watching the "Live Ritual 2021" performance here on youtube. The mixing and sound design is absolutely incredible and the costumes and overall astethic is really well done. The band is on Napalm Records and released their latest album Ritual last year on the label. The band is a duo from Siberia and is described as Nordic/dark folk, they are often compared to bands like Heilung and Wardruna to name a few.
" This is F--ing Fantastic " !!! YES, it is !!! So glad you are loving ❤️ this !!! It's haunting, mystical, magical, and transcends you to another place in time !!! I feel like I should be sacrificing one of my chickens !!! LOL. Kidding...
SABATON - En Livstid I Krig LIVE is so good and id recommend watching it with english lyrics or (subs) but a swedish soldiers point of view (they have multiple). the crowd knows the whole song and sings it well its amazing
As far as more Heilung, the whole show of Lifa is worth checking out. Also, they released their first Music Video earlier this year, for Norupo off of their second album, Futha.
Love that you are respectful of the artists, get to know the music/production and are open minded. Give Tank and the Bangas a try if you're interested. "Nice Things" from any live performance.
Great to see you react to this very out of the ordinary music. Love Heilung. Those minutes just fly by when you can allow yourself to get immersed in their old universe of sound. I would recommend Wardruna and Aurora - Helvegen (Live). It's historically a bit more modern inspired. And by modern I mean around the viking age (800-1050 AD approx.). Their lead vocalist Einar Selvik co-wrote the score for Vikings.
I was lucky enough to see - experience might be the better word - Heilung live last December. It was absolutely unreal. "Alfadhirhaiti", "Hamrer Hippyer" and "In Maidjan" are some other performances you gotta check out!
Came across this song a few days ago, resonates with me. Love a few of the limited reactions. Regardless, your "pop up video" theme brings me back, love it.
Just love your fact boxes instead of many others who pause and talks for ages👌 very intresting music😄 best regards from Norway. And do check out Dimmu Borgir live in spektrum👌
Wow. Nice reaction Tank and thank you for introducing this band. I am german but I never heard of them before. Anything I can say is their band name "Heilung" is the german word for "healing". The sounds might relate to tribal shamanism, doing different ceremonies and dances back in the days. What a splendid idea.
I'm hopefully going to be doing an interview with their Tour/Production Manager on the channel soon, so there's probably a lot more cool stuff we'll find out about their production.
Definitely have to recommend 'In Maidjan' from the same concert, as much as I love Krigsgaldr, the way 'In Maidjan' sets the tone is just on another level.
Your "Tank Facts" sold me. I watch a lot of react videos but you're officially the first one I actually follow. I cant get enough of your reactions and facts. I salute you sir! With regards to the mic setup, someone commented on the video for the concert this came from that it looks like they have between 40 and 50 microphones on-stage for performers and instruments. I totally agree their sound setup and mixing is absolutely superlative.
Yup! Real bones. Real human bones. These guys are AMAZING live. Treat yourself if you get the chance. I like this primal sound better than some of the bands mentioned in the same breath. That's just personal preference. And, I was pretty sure you'd love this. I'm glad! I loved the input on the production. I know when they toured in the States there was mention of the bones and concerns getting through customs. "I swear, they are instruments, agent.' I love this band.

ua-cam.com/video/h1BsKIP4uYM/v-deo.html628 - Krigsgaldr (war chant) about what choice we are left with if someone invades our lands.

In thy hands is death Thy people we shall slaughter And no mercy will be given Fearless we are Death makes us laugh War is what we want
Thou! Dies! In this battle thou shall dies.'
ua-cam.com/video/h1BsKIP4uYM/v-deo.html - Fylgija Ear / Futhorck. (this is all very religious).
ua-cam.com/video/h1BsKIP4uYM/v-deo.html - Othan (Odin) is a poëm about the actual fight.
They chant: 'hang the animals' and 'blood for blood' 'a bone for a bone' 'so that wounds can heal again' Then it says: 'may this story be of any help'
in maidjan is awesome
Amen to this. Maria Franz really, REALLY shows what she can do in that. Goddamn.
It's my running song before my weights workout.
As a gamer you may have heard Heilung before since their song "In Maidjan" was used in the "Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2" trailer earlier this year.
Also their music is perfect for gaming
I adore In Maidjan so much. I wish more reactors do it.
That trailer was absolute FIRE
@@jdtesch86 bloody intense that was!
That's how I came to know and love them! A reaction to In Maidjan would be cool
Heilung -Alfadhirhaiti. It's like a war song. Very energetic. In Maijdan also by them just beautiful
Yes! Not enough people suggest this song!
Its actually a direct invocation of Wotan (Odin, but older). Alfadhiriti means Allfather.
The lyrics, as well as a lot of Heilung's and Danheim's lyrics are all taken from ancient works, poems and the Elder Edda.
Yes yes pls pls pls pls 🤘🤘
this song IS a war song! it's taken from the Eggja runestone not so far away from where i live in Norway.
Alfadhirhaiti means Names of Allfather. This is song about Odin.
Welcome in the rabbithole, Sir.
The Road leads Home.
Yes! The gods are awaken.
Skal!
HAIL!
💖🍄
I am well and truly stuck in the rabbithole, listening to Skald, Faun, Warduna and Heilung, amongst others. My inner Celt/Viking has been awoken.
Yes they DO use human bones. They actually been held at customs during tours for that reason!
@@baskoning9896They do have permits to carry the bones as religious/cultural devices.
The moment at 12:00, it always gives me shivers. It creeps me out and satisfied me at the same moment, just like she is watching onto the the deepest bottom of your soul in this glimpse of a moment...love it
I saw them live in Tuska Open Air 2019. That wasn't a gig. It was a ritual.
@@lemon_key Who hurt you?
Gear breakdown : drumskins by Deer, Goat, and Horse. Bones by Deer and Human.
Thanks a ton, man! Much appreciated!
The trivia you add in post are easily one of the best features of the videos. That, and the fact you seem to actually know what you're talking about when it comes to stage performances/preparation.
Brings me nostalgic memories of "pop up video" on VH1 back in the gap. Love it.
Gear-wise, I've noticed a Shure microphone, actual horn, animal skin, and what looks like a femur?
Not to mention a shield.
Vocal chords 2.4 (retro edition)
Yeah, she's using human forarm bones I do believe, they've had trouble at customs over those before. Some countries get funny about you transporting human remains across borders I guess?
The bone is a human humerus, I do believe. Maybe an ulna.
And a few bones go a long way.
Okay, this was propably requested a lot already but if not:
"Faun - Odin (feat. Einar Selvik)"
German Pagan-Folk Band. ;)
Seconded
Always Faun - and let’s add Omnia.
I love FAUN!!!
@@jacobklunder8552 Them too. Lol.
Hamrer Hippyer by these guys is like bronze age dance music. Same performance at Castle fest.
It may be my favorite of these guys.
Yeah. Hamrer Hippyer is great. But also Alfadhirhaiti is a great Song.
@@minibar1976
Both of those songs live are unreal.
The concussive force of all those drums is unspeakable. And then it gets even deeper. Lol
I second this. Just watched a reaction video to this.
I prefer the original, but I definitely love this version still. It's my favorite song of Wardruna.

So it´s not necessary to understand german in this case :D
And again, greetings from Austria
Yeah, In Extremo is like a medieval Rammstein. I'm a big fan for at least 15 years now, mostly older stuff. Bagpipes FTW
@@iachtulhu1420 saw them live back in 2007...it was epic with the ship-style stage :D
I also appreciate that they adapt older songs, some of them are almost 1000 years old, with original lyrics and melody and put in more modern instrumentation along with very old school instruments like bagpipes, nickelharpa, hurdy-gurdy, horns, etc...
Herr Mannelig is one of their best medieval adaptations, but I think their takes on the Merseburger Zaubersprüche are somewhat better.
If you like In Extremo then you need to check out Tanzwut
They sing in german but they have a heavier and more metal vibe to them but with the same much usage of backpipes (and even more because all members can play it)
Both bands rule the medieval rock/metal scene for me
I saw Heilung live at a smallish venue (around 7500) and it was completely intense!!
100 percent 🖤
I'm going to see them tonight, I'm freaking hyped!
You love this because of ancestral memory. Genetic memory.
Hook me up to that Animus
Thanks for the shoutout, greetings from me aka their tour and production manager :)
Thanks man! Looking forward to getting you in this channel!
I did not know this other than some people suggesting it on Discord. Inspite of it not being my regular cup of tea, I loved this. Like you said, maybe not something I'd listen to actively all the time, but this is ideal for me as background music during work. Thanks for reacting, nice one!
Thanks buddy! I definitely enjoyed it!
Good reaction! I love Heilung and their song "Alfadhirhaiti" live, is fantastic too.
According to an August 2018 interview, the instruments they use consist of: drums, including one with horse skin painted with human blood, two drums with deerskin and a drum with goatskin. Bones, including a human forearm bone and deer bones. A buffalo horn rattle.
I saw in an interview that they actually painted the instruments they use with their own blood can't remember (Heavy New York maybe?)
This is nothing to headbang, but to deeeeeply enjoy and feel. So unique, so fantastic, so earthy.
This stuff wakes up DNA. Great reaction vid. Looking forward to more Heilung
Sabaton comes to mind
@@arwestromen I knew someone said Sabaton when i saw it had one reply 😅
This is Performance Art. Its like Church, only more interesting. For a first performance its AMAZING!
For repetitive workouts they're actually pretty good, might be worth setting up a timer though.
My issue lately (aside from health problems making everything difficult) is that I'm obsessed with the band Avatar & a lot of their stuff is so fast & furious I can't keep up! lol
Metalheads: Folk music sucks!
Heilung: Hold my mead!
: & Pulls out the bones of our peoples.
Folk music sucks, ritual music is goddamn mindblow.
Thank you so much!
And dude, I know this video is pretty old now but in case you haven't, watch and react to:

Hahaha your smilie at 12:02 in your video when Maria turns to look at the camera, staring into your soul SO deeply that you feel it even in the abstract. Gold.
They are throat singing- there are four cultures in the world that use throat singing, tuvans in Russia, the iniuit Indians on the Northwest coast of British Columbia, and the Xhosa an indigenous tribe in South Africa, and Heilung
Watch the full show. It's amazing.
You may want to use an adblocker while viewing it though, the number of commercials during the performance is disgusting. But SOOO worth watching either way. And the official video for Norupo is amazing, too.
Having Yuve Yuve Yu playing softly in the background while you gave you breakdown was a nice touch. The Hu felt like a good juxtaposition to Heilung.
also, the "Maria Franz of Heilung - LIFA Vocals" video that's 18 minutes long is fantastic. you'd probably geek out at how amazing she is as a human instrument.
Great video - I know you didn't say a huge amount - but your facts were awesome. I really think you would love Faun, they're a German folk band. Freuer is my favourite. Very much enjoyed, thank you.
Love these guys! If you liked this, I'd suggest trying out Wardruna!
Second that!
Indeed. Eluveitie’s got quite a lot of goodies to discover.
Most metalheads have a hugely varied taste.
I love black&death metal, 90s gangsta rap, classical and music like heilung and ambient soundscapes..
A comment I read about this performance: "I listened to the song while doing the dishes and accidently forged an axe and a shield." :-)
Oh excellent! I listen to a lot of Heilung when I game.
🤘🤘🤘
I saw these guys live in Denver just before the scourge of the current pandemic, and they evoke a very primal, almost familial energy. I was up front, right in front of a guy who used one of the larger drums, and also slid a rock across a sword's blade for this song in particular. It's still one of the most profound concerts that has burned into my memory. Oh and yeah, those are real bones, one of human origin I believe, and I think I heard one of the drums is painted in human blood?
Oh, also obligatory Æther Realm recommendation - Slave to the Riff
Painted with their own blood
I was at that show as well, dead center about 4 rows deep.... such an amazing show
Hey hey Tank! Been almost a year since I first saw this awesome video and have to say again this is my favorite reaction video! You nailed it. Heilung is a tribe, offering a tribe and most importantly healing. They have and continue to be a crucial part of my life, and journey as a pagan and good person
Another fun fact. After a few minutes with the bones, she called down the mist. No smoke machines were used. The gods produced their own ambiance...
so much love for this band, super happy you reacted to them! :D
ps. the whole concert is on youtube and it is super epic, some of the instruments you can see a lot better in other songs and they are really interesting
This band is for real. Saw them at Brutal Assault in Czechia last year and they stole the show. An absolutely captivating show.
So excited to see you finally land on this band. Can't wait for more!
Dude! Thanks so much for all the info on them. There’s so much I didn’t know about the band that I now know cause of you!

Wardruna - Raido (Video Version) could be a Song that calls you home
This was absolutely phenomenal. Stunning. Breathtaking. Thank you for this one.
I've been doing lighting, sound and set design for years.
This is absolutely. fucking. brilliant.
11:14 "This is f**king fantastic!" sums up it perfectly!
My favorite song by them right now is "Othan" This stuff is amazing! Awesome Work, Tank. Love your work!
11:37 this is metal in one of its most primal form. Really hits that same point of grit within us all.
Just love your fact boxes instead of many others who pause and talks for ages👌 very intresting music😄 best regards from Norway. And do check out Dimmu Borgir live in spektrum👌
Their live album is perfection. It's got an energy I can't describe
Wow. Nice reaction Tank and thank you for introducing this band. I am german but I never heard of them before. Anything I can say is their band name "Heilung" is the german word for "healing". The sounds might relate to tribal shamanism, doing different ceremonies and dances back in the days. What a splendid idea.
this is one of the most metal songs out there, but there's not a single element typically found in metal. lol
Great info about the production side. You made me pay attention to it and you're right, it is amazing.

@@paulslater9555 thx
The sounds and rhythms they manage to get out of banging on metal (between multiple people) always astounds me.
Wow what a performance, I love how Primal this is. I could listen to this all day. And I meditate too so no judgment from me :D
I would love to see you do a reaction to the Song 100 by Hevisaurus. They're a Finnish band that focuses on Kid friendly Metal and the song features literally every Finnish metal musician ever. It's absolutely mind blowing.
So glad you enjoyed them! In Maidjan from the same show is wonderful! I hope you react to it. Thank you for giving Heilung a chance!
I love love LOVE that you dig this! If you want to be taken to another place while meditating, try their songs In Maidjan and Hamrer Hippyer (of course reacting to them first 😉). The latter is my meditation and house chore song of choice lol
With regards to the mic setup, someone commented on the video for the concert this came from that it looks like they have between 40 and 50 microphones on-stage for performers and instruments. I totally agree their sound setup and mixing is absolutely superlative.
Heilung live is something else. Totally would go see again.
Yup!
