Thanks to age of empires I love mongolian history. All that you people built. Ghengis khan. Chinese empire of Kublai Khan. Damn you re-shaped the history of the world in less than a generation and conquered the known world. Which civilization, culture and people can say that? Brazillian fan here. Sorry haha

When the video for Yuve Yuve Yu was filmed it took 2 weeks. They filmed each member in a different location to exemplify tradional mongolian elements as part of their belief system. Temka on the Tovshuur (guitar) to symbolize water, Galaa on blue horse head fiddle represents thunder, Enkush on red horse head fiddle represents fire and Jaya in the forest representing wind. These are amazing men and artists, all classically trained, all with masters degrees in performing arts. They perform 3 different types of throat singing and all play multiple instruments. Temka can play piano better than ANYONE I have ever heard. Jaya also teaches music at the Mongolian state conservatory and has won numerous awards. The whole band is fantastic and their music is called Hunuu Rock. Literally the first band of its kind. Yes I am a HUge fan!

      Somehow, it is medicinal.
I suffer from a chronic condition. Listening to them somehow relieves the symptoms noticeably.
It is neurological in nature, and I have heard of various unconventional treatments, including sound.
Simply listening to music I enjoy has never made a difference, but these songs do.
Funny thing, I'm starting to learn the lyrics!

  • @LeonBlackbird

It isn't metal but folk rock, since they mix their Mongolian folklore (the instruments, the throat singing and musical structures) with rock. If you think about it, they're mixing the Western and the Eastern worlds in order to create music that appeals to every human being around the world.
The Hu is a great first step when trying to listen to Mongolian folk... but they're not the only ones. If you want something more metal you have Tengger Cavalry or Nine Treasures, if you're aiming for something more punk you have Hanggai, and if you want something more folk you have Batzorig Vaanchig.

That instrument is called a horse head fiddle or a morin khuur. It is strung with two strings - the larger of the two strings (the "male" string) has 130 hairs from a stallion's tail, while the "female" string has 105 hairs from a mare's tail. For the correct spirit, the strings should be made from your own horses' tails. (Now they are often made from nylon.) The height of skill is to make it sound like a horse neighing. A lot of the singing you are hearing is traditional throat singing.

I really like the bluesy approach this band brings! If you’re interested in a more metal approach to this kind of music, check out Tengger Cavalry, especially their earlier discography. I recommend their songs “Galloping Steeds” (probably my most favorite song) and “War Horse.”

I just discovered your channel and it is because I was specifically looking for people that had reacted to this song. This was the first song I experienced by The Hu, probably about the same time you did this video. I fell in love with their uniqueness. I also love "Song of Women" that they did with Lzzy Hale. I don't know how old your dad is but I smiled when he said he was old. I will be 67 at the end of this month. Don't put me in a box musically just because I fall into a certain age bracket. I am now a subscriber and look forward to more reactions.

Hey Tank, your Dad does know !! Do you know why you have never heard something like this before? It is because The HU is the first band in the world to mix traditional Mongolian music or sound, troath Singing with Rock, they call it Hunnu Rock and they became known worldwide, leading some rankings for several weeks and were also decorated in their country for making their culture known. For me they are a breeze of fresh air and I freeking love their sound and music.
I recomend Sugaan Essena Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order - The Hu Music Video to react

Tengger Cavalry mix Mongolian folk music (vocal techniques included) with metal, and their first album was released in 2010 if I remember correct.
Tengger Cavalry never had the same hype as The HU has now, but as someone Who primarily listens to metal, I for sure prefer Tengger Cavalry over The HU.
Btw, ever heard of Chthonic from Taiwan?

A song of theirs that I like even better than this one or "Wolf Totem" is "The Great Chingiss Khaan". I suppose some might consider it a bit politically incorrect since the song glorifies a Mongol (Genghis Khan) who militarily conquered most of the world, and the song fills the listener with that sort of world-conqueror spirit. I'd say it is the most metal of the songs I've heard from The Hu. And the official music video looks like it was a big budget production: it's gorgeous!
