    Downsized? Was it a Beverly Hills manor? “Kitchenette...Here’s our Kitchen...Camp Stove, Camp Oven, Camp Microwave, Camp Fridge” Are you kidding?

    • @blacklabwoodcrafters
      @blacklabwoodcrafters 4 роки тому +5

      They were playing on the camp kitchen notion. I would assume they did very well in life, (hard work) and lived in a big ass house with big ass bills. Now they live a more simple life. I say Bravo. We always want to judge others and their position in life. I think they nailed it and I would assume for a third of what they use to pay to live in that Big Home. Just saying.

    OMG, you've got a keeper there Dave! If I suggested to my wife to sell our house and live in a tent, well I'd be living in a tent all by myself. As a single man.

      Dave here. I'm betting that she'd be all for it if she were to experience them herself. My wife is not into camping at all.

      That is what happened to me somewhat. She would not come with me and squatted on the property we were vacating rather than live in a tent. None of my family helped this time. She wanted the divorce so she got it. Married 37 years.

    I have been watching tiny homes for years now. I’ve always loved the idea of downsizing, living off the land, off grid but also not having to pay so much for mortgage and bills. I like the tiny homes but with homeschool and 3 kids and one of them a teenager idk how the tiny home would work for us. Unless we build two tiny homes. Then that might not work for saving as much money as we would like too. We bought this older house on 4 acres and at the time I was starting the nursing program. My back and my health went out the window. I have been on and off bed ridden due to my back for 7 years now. I struggle through every day and we have no friends or family where we live. During this time hubby was out of a job (oil and gas) for two years. The day he got laid off I found out I was pregnant with our third daughter. She has been such a blessing to our family through these trying times. During the pregnancy my back was so bad. I suffered tremendously and for about two years I cried every night begging God to just take my life but I fought to live for my precious baby. Of course, I love my other children but the lord knew how desperately I needed Brielle to keep my will to live. I still suffer everyday. Everything is hard for me todo and it’s hard for me to go places. So we are pretty lonely and life has been so hard. During all of this our old house has had major issues. We lost our kitchen for ten months and still haven’t got it finished but at least we can cook and do dishes, ect. There are so many other problems with the house. Hubby works two jobs and most weeks 7 days a week. I desperately need help just with basic stuff but hubby desperately needs help too because he works so much he can’t do his task around the property. My dream is to live on land with another family or two and garden, homeschool and be more self sufficient. We want out of this rat race. I don’t mind hubby keeping his job with oil and gas but having to fix appliances after work is taking a tole on us. We are worn down and life has been so hard. I started a new treatment for my back since the insurance company won’t do anything. I’ve dreamed of getting insurance again for years thinking I would get surgery and get better. Then it’s been heart ache after heart ache dealing with drs and insurance. So anyways, I love your tent home. We are thinking of making a big change so that we can get our life back. I just pray I can get healing and we can make this huge move to simplify our lives and be able to enjoy it. I have a huge heart for helping others and my dream is to just do all I can for those who are struggling with health, abuse, poverty, anything and everything. I’ve been heartbroken being where I am because I want todo so much more not only for my family but for others too. Anyways, any advice on making this huge change in our lives would be great. I love your home and love that y’all have bettered yalls family!! It’s such encouragement. Maybe there is hope for us. Idk I’ve been completely hopeless and heartbroken for several years now. Life has been so, so so hard. 😪 anyways, God bless and look forward to hearing from you.

      Exactly how the Indians did it in tipi’s. They had liners on the inside poles that went above head height. Creating insulated air space. With a fire inside, they’d have snow and ice out and be warm. In summer it kept cooler too. They’d raise the bottom back up a bit and open the entry flap for cross ventilation.

    Get some Yurts. They're a lot warmer :D When I lived in Colorado we had an outhouse and outdoor showers. The outhouse overlooked the valley. Beautiful view in the morning, with your cup of coffee or tea and sitting on the shitter. We had solar hot water, but most days I ran it cold because it was so hot outside
    and let me tell you it felt so good. It did wonders for my skin too, using cold water.

    The layout is beautiful! How are yall able to do this? Most states won't allow you to do this in your own backyard. There is like a 2 week limit or a 600 sq space limit. Please enlighten me?
    The American dream should be to live off grid but that's not the case. They will find away to make it difficult, illegal, or a way to charge us up.

    Hi, I hope your family is doing well! I was curious if you all are still living in the tents and if you could make a update video about them and the construction process. I know myself and many folks in the US right now that would love to steer this direction given the current interest rates on mortgages. My husband and I would rather invest in a larger piece of land and spend less money on our home. Our last home had hidden mold so I’m really interested in this way of living to prevent that from happening again. However I Would have no idea where to start to source the quality products or find someone who knew how to build this or how much it would cost. I can’t imagine a bank would finance a tent. I’m going to have to dig deeper into this; but would love to hear more from your family on this!

    I think this is one of my all-time favorite videos. I love your beautiful family. I took the time to look through your website and the products that you make and they are outstanding. I do believe that you get what you pay for and your product will last a lifetime. I was wondering if there was a specific website that you ordered your tents from? The inside of your home is utterly amazing. I applaud you on your venture and wish you good fortune in all your endeavors.

    Pros and Cons.......Pros-It looks really cool, still very spacious, and would be fun living in tents like this for a while. Cons -These tents won't hold up long term and must always be replaced and repaired, much more then a regular house. Heating and cooling would be a problem, little privacy as far as noise goes. If the parents want to get some nookie the kids are likely to hear it. Lastly, Texas has crazy weather. One small tornado and it's all gone.

    • @saddlebackleather
      @saddlebackleather  7 років тому +2

      Dave here. All of what you said has truth to it. Nookie has been no problem. Heating is fine, but can get expensive. Electric blankets are AWESOME. At 35 degrees and under, we go elsewhere. Cracking pipes and toilets is no fun at 10 degrees. The main body of the tent that hangs from the frame will last forever. It's the rain fly that gives out in a 7 years or so. We are on the NE side of a hill and the prevailing winds come out of the SW. Tornados don't go downhill and so generally we're safe. We had one go over the tents Dec 2015

    • @lynndurbin9476
      @lynndurbin9476 5 років тому

      For cold pipes wrap and plug in electrical wire to prevent bursting. Alaska way. I also lived in my sailboat, so I agree with the electric blankets. Nomads were able to keep warm....

    Put some Rocket Mass Heaters/stoves in those tents and you will never worry about freezing again. They work off of twigs. Scarp wood, broken pallets and once they are heated up they can last for hours to days depending on how much mass you have to heat up. Can't beat them. Easy to build yourselves. If you build deep trenches with air pipes feeding them the earth can warm up the air before it goes into the Rocket Mass Heater/Stove. In the Summer it pulls cool air into the tent from the conviction process. Or you can use low energy fans that work off solar to pull the cool air through those air pipes about 8' to 10' deep. I would put about 7 of them and at least 75' long each per tent. You can use that cheap 8" corrugated plastic tubing if need be, but they get condensation, so I would use non-corrugated plastic tubing if I was you. Have them going at an uphill slope and where they open at collect the water for drinking if the pipes are clean inside of them or filter it and drink it. Believe it or not the best filter is horse manure It will even filter out chemical polluted water to better than federally acceptable water quality standards for drinking water. The enzymes in Horse manure is that good.

    When did they start making tent mansions? Not the type of “tent” I was hoping for. I expected actual tents with no hardwood floors and home furniture. I would say if you’re going to live like this, it would probably be better to just buy a small house on a large piece of property.

      How much does a sack of groceries cost?

    • @picklesdill9138

      Saddleback Leather some people can barely afford groceries lol. Why dodge the question

    • @jayplaysarcades3938
      @jayplaysarcades3938 6 років тому +1

      Faith Pickles I think what he's saying about how much a sack of groceries costs, means you have to define what's in a sack of groceries. Someone may buy vegetarian and someone else may buy meat and cheese. Both are sacks of groceries, but both contain very different items.

    I live in Texas and I am familiar with the blister bringing sun here. I am intrigued as to how this tent will hold up over the years with the sun's harmful UV rays
