Very inspiring restoration. I have several tool boxes in need of some work like this. Excuse me while I go add a sand blasting cabinet to my wishlist...
Well shoot, I have a similar old tackle box that I really like the way that it has aged but this looks fantastic! I may yet end up completely redoing it like yours! Frikkin fantastic.
I have the same box. I got it as a kid for Christmas along with a ratchet set and some wrenches. I still have the box but the tray is long gone, its been my hole saw box for about 35 years or so now. I think the tray got pounded to bits back when I used to carry it in the trunk of my car. The tray hinges wore through and the tray fell in and got pounded to death. I also had one in blue hammer tone too, that one is still like new but it never did any hard duty, it was just used to keep some hobby items in back then, today its full of router bits under my router table.
Very nice. Good choice on color scheme as well. The only better option would have been powder coat. But with the added clear coat, it should last. Thumbs Up!
Way back when I was a kid I got a box just like that, and its the color you painted it, not the color yours was before. Mine has a slightly older style latch and it had a single folding plastic tray inside that's over the years gotten eaten by rubber worms. I got mine as a birthday gift in the late 60's/early 70's. No later than 1973. I still use mine, but no longer as a tackle box, it hold router bits these days and I use a slightly newer, larger tackle box for fishing. (I also still have the Zebco 33 rod/reel combo that came with it, and a few of the original lures that came with the combo back then. I caught lots of bluegills and sunfish with that thing back then.
@@pantherplatform I keep gravitating projects towards it! Tonight I sandblasted the cams on the upper ball joints on my towncar. ( I was in the process of replacing the upper ball joints if that makes me seem not as anal... )
lol, after all these years and NO ONE has come up with a way to improve the "Mexican chrome" spray paint? Not a criticism on the restoration at all, I just can't believe that with all the advancements in paint that that old dull gray is still the best we can do in a rattle can.
The sand blasted look is nice. I used to enjoy running the sand blaster when I worked at a mill. Very meditative and satisfying work.

I’m a big fan of the hammered finish paints too. My favorite color is called oil rubbed bronze. Great old tool color 👍🏼 looks great
Beautiful

My dad sold these in his hardware store when I was a kid and teenager working in the store. I had one myself. It was my first tool box

Great job on the tackle box.

Good job and looks great, well done
Sweet! I just finished restoring mine and it has pretty much the same color on it. Only after, did I find this video. Can post pictures if interested
Looks great
Not bad for a beginner :) Nice work
Wish I had a sandblaster
grate job
Cool to watch, but I have that exact same tackle box in my garage. Beat up yeah, but still use it. And its red.
They seem to be pretty popular! I had one as a kid that had an indented ruler across the top, I assume to measure your smaller catches. ;)
Cool but you could have plated the hardware ! LOL fun stuff
That is something I've often thought about trying! Maybe someday! Thanks for watching!
Hi bro 👋👋👋very good restoration 👍👍👍🤝🤝🤝and video cool 👍👍👍
just got one like this with two trays, this is exactly what i wanna do to it! any idea what year this one is?
What size and type rivets did you use? I have a similar tackle box I'm working on and have never redone rivets before.
Pretty sure they were 1/8th in girth, not sure how long. I just grabbed what I had on hand.
Sure the hell can! Sand blast it with your suped up hazard fraught sand blaster and spray paint it.
Wow. Now you mention the sandblaster...

Can I ask what size rivets you used and were they aluminum or steel?
1/8th and I'm going to guess at my memory and say steel.
@@1D10CRACY great thanks, I'm going to try the same with an old vintage tackle box I just purchased.
I just checked mine. Same thing but I though it was only 20-30 years old
What type of media do you run in your blast cabinet?
Coal Slag, it's Black Diamond brand, I buy it at TSC.

I totally agree!!!! Very disappointing!
I'd swap my wife for sand blaster...
