Alice could read the ingredients from jar of jam and still hypnotize me. She is such a great presenter. Cooly animated, enthusiastic, vocally on point and always gets my attention.
Alice, you have a wonderful way of making history interesting, enjoyable and all mixed with fun and a sense of humour. I visited Stourhead many years ago on a trip to England. I wish I could visit again having had you guided tour. Keep up the good work.
A few more interesting facts. The family became friendly with the writer Thomas Hardy, Alfred's Tower is even mentioned in one of his poems. Several workers are believed to have drowned in the lake over the centuries. After a fire in 1902 its thought all the servants were sacked, despite them rescuing most of the house content and losing all their possessions in the fire. From the 1850s there was a real problem with gangs of poachers coming into the estate. Mantraps were set to try and catch them. The gamekeeper was murdered by a gang of poachers who were transported to Australia as felons.
Very Enjoyable, stayed in Bristol for about 6 years and I remember my colleague talking about this, but never visited. But thanks to Alice, it was as good as visitng in person.
The more I see Alice the more enamored I become. She has a magical way of presenting history and I am nothing more than a moth attracted to the flame. I’ve studied history on my side of the pond and now I’m more determined than ever to learn as much as I can about all things England. Thanks Alice you’ve lit a fire to study British history. ❤
Enjoy watching all programmes led by Alice Loxton! She turns quite dull and ordinary information sound very intriguing and adds leisury charm that makes the experience of listening also a fancy, except beautiful cultural visionary content on its own!!!!😉
Yes . The views from the top of stourhead are breathtaking . I could imagine how amazing it must have been for the who were invited to the lavish country parties back in those days . It feels like a paradise to me .
Really enjoy these videos of the estates! As history goes, we never really hear about them (history student for 6 years now and nobody utters a word about them) so it is lovely to have some insight , especially since they are some of my favourite parts of history. They really seem to bring together lots of historic people into one place. I would really recommend Houghton Hall in Norfolk for a future video, the house of the first prime minister. Its very well maintained and will have plenty to show. The only problem is it is still owned by the Cholmondeley family, and so extra permission would definitely be needed in order to show some areas/film on the estate, though it is usually open to visitors! Keep up the excellent content 😎👍
I agree . I went there last summer and the bridge she walked over was closed to the public .I would've loved to have walked across that iconic bridge . Recreating my favorite scenes from pride and prejudice 🥰
Alice is such a fabulous presenter. The other comments are correct, she's a gem. We'd watch her doing a show about paint drying, and she'd make it fascinating.
I lived in the town of Gillingham, we lived in the old mill house in the centre of the town, we grew up with a large garden with the river running through it. One year we were flooded out because Stourhead opened their sluice gates and someone forgot to tell my parents so we didn’t open ours😟 In the summer of 1976 my brothers and I spent the whole holidays swimming in the river and the mill pond. Jumping from the first floor window into the millpond😱drove mum nuts. I seem to remember that this year of all years the local council decided to close our local pool to make it an indoor one but I’m in my sixties now and memories are not always accurate 😊
This was 4 YEARS AGO!? Alice is a wonderful presenter for History Hits; I truly enjoy not only learning from the History presented, the Story coming to life: but the Presentation of such knowledge. This work from 4 Years ago was such a delight; it harkens me back to to the History channel - and the reflection that it tis a shame that could of done so much better. Thank You: History Hits, and more specifically Alice: for bringing History to Life.
Love this place, I grew up down the road from here in Gillingham. Stour head and Heavens Gate were regular haunts of my family. Stour head is one of the things that missed when I moved to Cumbria. Does anyone know if they still have those Events where there were Madricals and you could bring a picnic, I think they even put on Swan Lake one year.😊
Great! Also v much enjoyed the short vids last month.. I liked the choices of music, those Vivaldi string concertos are ace. Whilst on subject, thanks for the Mozart.. Nice one Alice. 🌟👍
Alice is fabulous… her amazing energy works best in close-up shots… in my opinion. AND she plays the piano! So I hope they’re planning on using that by weaving in some history bits with Beethoven, Mozart and Chopin. Thanks!
Would love to visit there! But it looks like it's not easy to get to for foreigners without a car. I only travel around the country by train, so anywhere I go has to be easy access from a train station.
That was great! One question: was that bridge paved with grass? Is that unique or an English thing? I'm American and have never seen that before and am curious.
@@josephkarl2061 Yeah, agreed, you didn't build a house that size unless you owned half the town or the entire county. I've two near me that are just so vast in scale. Acres and acres landscaped purely for the view from the dining room. There is a bridge like that in one of the stately homes in the next county and I think I read that the owner moved it because it spoilt the vista. I think grassing a bridge is genius. You could only see it if you actually were close enough to walk over it.
Their is a ancient roman bridge in milton Keynes Buckinghamshire that is beautifully arched like that bridge in stourhead, stowe gardens has two beautiful bridges like that too . I think the bridges were built that way due to the roman and greek influences of the 18th century Georgian enlightenment period.
Que lugar más hermoso y romantico. Me gustaría un día ir allí, donde se rodó Orgullo y Prejuicio. Entiendo que hay un horario de visitas, lo cual no es agradable del todo, porque para pasear se a realizar sin prisas.

Her dress sense is interesting
HORSES and MUSIC too!!! Wow! What a chick!
