  • Lincoln wasn't always owned by the Ford Motor Company. Let's take a look at the beginning of a world class automobile that was designed and built by Henry M. Leland. Leland also founded and produced the Cadillac motorcar and the Liberty V12 Aircraft Engine. The two American luxury cars were conceived by the same man. Listen to the sound of the V8. It is like no other.

The chauffeur's tool kit in the driver's door. This automobile was meant to be chauffeur driven and they were trained to make minor roadside repairs or maintenance in the garage. Leland is an important automotive historical figure. He was a precision engineer. He was not good in the Boardroom. He didn't care what it cost. It was going to be the best. Many early engineers formed their own automobile company and later lost it because they would not compromise for the bean counters. Rear wheel brakes and sometimes they were external contracting brake bands. Not great and terrible in rain or on a hill. A trained driver would know how to downshift to slow the car and not use the brakes much. A beautiful automobile. You are so fortunate to have it.

Aw yes those pesky rich people. Had someone to do everything.
You are correct good thing Ford took over. Had the money from us poor peeps to keep the rich spending their money.
It is a great car from a by gone era

What I love about your videos and I definitely would compare your videos with Jay Leno's videos is the sheer density of the information you share there's definitely a big divider between antique car collectors and vintage car collectors I love my antique cars I personally have a 1922 Hudson Essex two-door coach everything's original except the engine was rebuilt in the 80s

What a magnificent car. I love old Lincolns. My grandfather had a '32. You can't appreciate the mass of that engine until you see one in person. I saw a '29 at Hershey and was amazed. That rear is a bit wimpy though. Me thinks Mercedes borrowed that steering wheel design for the gull-wing. Great video, learned a lot.

What a great ride. The exhaust sound and smoothness so aircraft like. Did the aircraft engine have 3 of everything similar like the 2 of everything on the 8? Love the history, gives me hours researching to do . You never fail to teach what made America great. No mystery here in the Adirondacks . Come here for a summer visit . The weather is always fine.,except when it not . Happy Hour is always a 4:30 day or night depending on the shift.Be well. Jim.

Just saw one of these a year or two newer at Greenfield Village antique car show this past fall. It was completely original down to the paint, top and possibly the tires. It was given to Thomas Edison from Henry Ford. He hardly ever drove it and it was Given back to Ford early on. Beautiful automobiles and I'm sure that if Ford hadn't bought the company it would have been another automobile lost like so many others. Thanks for the video

@@KlepsGarage yellow shirt. No I didn't have a car there but I've always wanted a Ford Model A. I've been going to that show for at least 25 years maybe more. The guy with the hat walking with me happens to be the father of a guy that I know. I had no idea it was his dad until last year we were having a conversation about old cars. Long story short I've been looking at this guy's 28 Tudor for years and this past year he let me drive it around the village. I'm a mechanic by trade so I have an appreciation for simple durable cars and trucks. I've been around a number of model Ts ( that I have had a chance to drive) and Model As ( that I have always liked but never had a chance to drive) I do have an all original 1950 Ford F1 waiting for a spot in the shop for a restoration some day, however I would still like to find a good restorable Model A some day and do it up right and drive it as much as possible. That show is in my opinion one of the best. All the people who bring autos there are just great. They love the hobby and share the knowledge. It's truly a one of a kind experience. I also attended the Motor muster and enjoy it but it makes me feel somewhat dated because I remember working on some of those cars and trucks and owning and driving them back in the day. Maybe I'll get a chance to meet you there one day. Thanks for the excellent videos, I'll subscribe and keep up to date

Geared for 50 to 55. Guessing top speed 70. Although Lincoln had a higher gear ratio that would cruise 60 65.

I love the "fat man" (yes they really called it that back then) wheel that drops out of the way for easy ingress/egress. Leland put those all over his Cadillacs, too: Jay Leno demonstrates it on his 1917 Cadillac. Nice car, but not quite as nice as this Lincoln IMO.
