Excellent video! You are very easy to listen to, and my switch replacement went very well… mostly!
Thank you and I'm glad you found it useful!!
Great video! You guys saved me $150.00 in labor fees. I was able to install the F/R switch step by step and the cart is running great!
nice
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Keep watching and don't forget to subscribe!
Just what I needed. Excellent video. Good volume and sharp picture! Thanks.
Thank you! We have a great staff that helps with the video's!
Thanks. Easy to take out and install the new part that I ordered from you guys. The old one burned up in the FWD position and only ran in reverse.
We're glad you enjoyed the video!
Nice video very informative an easy to understand, thanks for your help
Your video content is great! They’ve been a huge help with my rebuild and upgrades. I’m interested in switching from a fwd/rev handle to a toggle switch. Do you have a video or recommendation?

You mean..something like this?!?!
Good day and nice video: I have a 07 ez.go I've noticed in the last 2 months it's hard to get the forward and reverse handle in the right spot to go in reverse, runs fine when located
Now the same thing is beginning when putting in forward and motion in both seem to shutter on take off, after takeoff it runs fine. If you could aim me in the right direction on 123 possibilities that would be great. After watching your video I get the feeling that I will be changing that unit you showed. Also I get the smell of electrical ozone on occasion when pulling small hilly areas. No smoke just a slight smell as if a wire connection might be loose. The advice of a professional first before attempting repairs is always nice. Thanks Dave
Sounds like the contacts are not making a solid connection. Check to see if there has been any melting around the copper contacts or where the cable attaches. May be time to upgrade the switch.
DIY Golf Cart Yes just as in your video the stud the at the 12 o'clock position had the 2 nuts that had backed off. I was able to remove both after using a solvent. The stud however remained loose slightly and doesn't have any type of head that can be grabbed with a wrench, I assume its a press fit that is no longer seated. Replacement option now appears certain. Also that electrical smell appears to have come from the back up horn connection
The 2 horn connections and the connection at 12 o'clock were making contact to the point of melting the outer plastic covering. Just wanted to check back to let you know what I found when I opened it up, and to say thanks again, I'm sure that my tablet will be close by when I make the replacement of this unit. If you have any final thoughts or advice I'd be interested in hearing from you. Thanks Dave
I have a 2003 TXT and have replaced the F/R switch recently, now I have no reverse, forward works great, so can I replace the Reverse micro switch only, or just replace the entire switch! Thanks
I got the same problem
EZGO TXT, new batteries, runs great forward, will not move in reverse, solenoid clicks in both directions, s/n ends in 04, I need help, where is the problemi
After installing my forward/reverse switch the throw goes beyond the switch when going into reverse and is hard to shift, any recommended solutions for this?
I replaced the switch...thanks for the info. But now it is very hard to shift from forward to reverse and vice versa. Can I adjust the tightness or will it get easier as time goes by?
Unfortunately that's a common issue with brand new switches with brand new springs internally. Yes, it will get easier to rotate or you'll get a lot stronger!
I replaced a F/R switch on my 01 model 36 volt, when hooking up the red wire from the charger, it arced, if I remove the white wire from the charger, I can hook up red wire, but never can I hook up both at the same time
What brand F-R switch did you install. I've got to replace mine and prices are all over the place.
Replaced my F/R switch and having challenges with leakage not extending far enough to lock in F/R selection ?
Where does the Orange wire go. I don't see two red wires for the out side switch
Quick question....the green wire where does it connect too? I bought a used golf cart and the green wire is going from the forward reverse switch straight to a batterie....is this correct? My golf cart is not running so I am doing troubleshooting right now
Power washed my 1996 txt, covered all electrical parts, put it back together, reverse works fine, but forward is very slow with no power. Please help.
Great video
Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed it!! Don't forget to subscribe!!
My 2006 ezgo has started to do the same reverse buzz while I'm driving in forward it just started today when I drove in the rain
Hi there: just watched your video on changing out the F/R switch and have one question. The red wire coming from the charging port, is that simply a hot wire or ?. I switched over to lithium and no longer use that port. Can I pull that source from elsewhere and is it 12v or 36v.. thanks
That is a positive lead and can be connected to the positive side of your new battery.
@@golfcartking thanks for the reply and the answer, will be going to your channel quite often now.. Thanks again.
@@rickynelson2314 Great!! Don't forget to subscribe if you already haven't!!!
the four lugs on the back of the switch. my bottom lug gets pack voltage. none of the other three get pack voltage. my cart will not run but the solenoid clicks. i have read alotttt and watched alotttt of videos and have been running through testing everything with a volt meter. video says that all four lugs showing have pack voltage. i can not figure out why the other three lugs do not have pack voltage. i had a spare F&R switch and rebuild one using all the best parts i had and the problem is still the same. PLEASE HELP
I need to know where 12,3,6 and 9 go. Just bought cart all, wiring diagrams show this switch mounted upside down and are all different??? 2001 TXT 36 VOLT 4 prong motor.
Great video, unfortunately none of my wires are attached to my switch? I dont think I needed a new one but just ordered one for kicks. Would you be able to tell me where the four wires go? 12 goes where and so on? I like the clock method and defiantly will use it in the future.
Anytime you need a wiring diagram, just give me a call with your email address and I'll one on it's way!!
@diygolfcart can you send me a wiring diagram as well? I have the same issue, wires are there but had to get a new F/R assembly and don't know which wire goes where...
Great video. Just a clarification, please. The last wire you reconnect you say is Red isn't that the Orange wire that goes to the controller? Thanks
I believe you're right...I caught that, too!
Great Catch!!!! You are absolutely right! That wire was Orange not Red! Thanks for watching and great eyes!! Time for new glasses!!
Would you recommend lock tight on those 4 connections to make sure that they don't back off. Along with the lock washers.
Locktite could be a good solution to the nuts backing off. It would be worth trying.
Hello, Great Video! I have a Question Can you make a video On How to Change A golf cart throttle F and R switch handle to An Electric switch? Thanks
When I get a golf cart in that needs that to be done, I will be sure to shoot a video and upload it. Thanks for watching!
@@golfcartking Have you created a video yet converting the rotary f/r to toggle? I have made the switch but ended up with extra wires. The F/R tech support on Carts Unlimited is unable to assist further.. I have a 2005 TXT series, using Alltrax controller
which ones are ABCD in reference to wiring diagram? the online wiring diagram has me confused the way i wired mine the reverse buzzard comes on in forward and its in half speed
Give me a call and lets look at a wiring diagram together to make sure we get it right!
What about the small wires on those two switches, mine caught on fire and melted the wires know one shows the complete job that includes you, please do a complete job. What your video showed anyone can figure that out
I purchased a new forward reverse switch for my non running golfcart, ezgo txt, followed your instructions, it worked.... went about a mile to my friends house, and it stopped working forward or reverse, checked all connections, they are tight, solenoid still clicks in forward and reverse, but no movement, any ideas? The switch came from Amazon, probably from china....
solenoid gets warm, but kinda think that may be normal?
DIRECTION SELECTOR cable A which comes from the Controller and B which goes to S1 hot the point the cable coating is melting. Is this a Direction Selector or motor issue? Thank You
Sounds more like a possible loose connection in the wiring.
does this work on 2001 ezgo txt that is 48volt?
I have a EZGO 36 volt cart like the one in your video. When i step on the throttle pedal i get a hesitation in forward and reverse. can you help me solve my problem?
This could be a battery issue. The slow take off may be the motor pulling more energy than the batteries can supply. I would do a load test on each battery first. Listen closely and see if you hear any noise coming from the motor, that could be a brush issue.
I just got a 2000 TXT and the shifter spins in either direction continuously, you have to find the magic spots for F and R. Would replacing this fix the issue? Thanks
Yes, the stops have broken off
Hello,
I have a 2004 EZGO TXT. Someone remove the F/R switch and did not label the 4 wires on the back. Is there a way that you could tell we where they go ?
email me at barry@diygolfcart.com requesting a wiring diagram for your cart. Be sure to note if its a Series, PDS or DCS.
we have a 2001 ez go but the f/r switch is on the dash next to ignition. our cart holds chge enough to go backwards but hardly moves in forward. any suggestions?
You have an EZGO with a PDS electrical system. It sounds like your golf car may have bad batteries. Give me a call and I'll email you a trouble shooting guide for that model.
Hey I have a 1995 36v medalist ezgo that isn't moving. I have tested the batteries they are all good. When I hit the paddle, I hear the solenoid click but the cart doesn't move. The solenoid and controllor are getting 34-35volts. If my forward reverse switch is bad will it cause the my cart not to move? Also, the reserve buzzer was disabled but was still running fine. Thanks.
+Michael Yenny If the Solenoid and Controller read 34 to 35 volts, the Batteries are not good. Check the voltage on the B+ and B- connections on the Controller with key on and accelerator pedal pressed down. Under 36 volts, replace batteries. If above 36 volts ONLY, check the B+ and M- voltage. Should start at 0 volts and as you press the pedal down the voltage should go up to 36 volts. Will not function properly if the voltage is lower than 36 volts.
So, I had a problem where my f/r switch was arcing because of contact wear. So, I ordered the beefed up switch from golf cart king, and replaced... nearly exactly as you...before seeing your video. However, before I was having a hard time getting the cart to hit reverse due to the contact...now, reverse works, but it won't go forward. I definitely wired it correctly. Thoughts?!
Disconnect a battery cable to cut voltage. Check for continuity between the 12'0 clock and 6 '0 clock positions. Then check the 9 and 3. Should have continuity, if so bad controller, if not bad F&R.
@@golfcartking thanks! You normally cut that first series, correct? I've diconnected the main positive and main negative in the past. Does that actually matter?
@@golfcartking I checked, the 3 and 9 have an OL, and the 12 and 6 read 15 (not 1.5). That feels like a bad switch to me.
It really doesn't matter, although you'll hear arguments on both ways.
@@golfcartking ... I ordered the new switch, and it does have continuity--so, it's either the controller or solenoid. To be safe, I just ordered both from your website. Thanks for all your help!
Is the part number 5070 the heavy duty one? I orderd it yesterday. In this video shows installation of a different part number. Is installation the same?
William Bowen.
Part Number 5070 is a stock replacement Forward & Reverse Switch. Part Number 5799 is the Heavy Duty F&R Switch. They do mount the same, just the contact bars are thicker on the Heavy Duty Switch.
thank u
Does a 2000 club car have a tow switch? I bought a used one but doesnt run. Tested the batteries and they are good. The solenoid makes a click soumd when i put it on forward/reverse but it doesnt run
It could but, if the solenoid is clicking, the car is in Run position. Check the voltage on the 2 small terminals with the pedal fully pressed and make sure that you're getting full battery voltage.
@@golfcartking i tried doing the bypass method by using the yellow cable side/small lead from solenoid to the last ground of the system but it doesnt go. I try checking both small leads and see if it reads 48v
Why not replace that antiquated mechanical for a conversion kit
Totally agree! That's the most efficient way to go but, there are people that like to keep things original!! Thanks for watching!
I have a 2003 ezgo txt 36v....i just installed my new forward reverse switch but the cart will not move...help!
Plus i already have new batteries i stalled last month and a new motor
I'm having the same issue.
Did you find out what it was? Help
@@MyVDUB64 did you all ever figure this out?
Can a F & R switch be repaired/refurbed or is it worth the hassle.
It can be repaired by either cleaning or replacing the contacts, if you've got the extra time. Me, I'd just replace the whole thing and go!
I have a stud broke on F&R switch can I just replace it?
It is better to replace the section.

will a bad FNR switch cause a cart to not go uphill or is this a controller issue? batteries are fully charged.
+a jones It depends on the model of golf cart. If the forward and reverse switch is a handle that has contacts on the backside, then yes.
+DIY Golf Cart It is an EZGO TXT Standard and going uphill the cart start herking and jerking like the batteries are about to die. straightaways seems to be ok (not breaking land records) Also the wires are extremely hot to touch. the battery wires feel fine but the FNR wires are very hot. any suggestions? wires, switch, controller, motor?
Does anyone know what size fuse is used between the battery and the contoller

I have a 2008 club car president I have change the motor I have changed the controller I have change the Solenoid and I have change the Mcor and still want move.
What can I check or do next?
When you press the accelerator down, does the solenoid click?
DIY Golf Cart
No it doesnt
Then we need to determine whats missing. Either the Positive or Negative is not going to the solenoid to activate it.
DIY Golf Cart
Ok what should I check?
Thanks
Anyway to test switch before replacing. Cart was doing great then went out last night and wouldn't move forward or reverse. Nothing clicks when you press the accelerator either.
Replace solenoid, grasshopper!!!
The damned shaft in the new f/r switch is too big! for the lever plate. Now I'm stuck with a mess.
Ok, I got it to work but it involved a hammer and a big bench vise.
How much is the switch??
