Never knew you had to this after almost 20 years of using my trimmer. Just opened up that nut and it looked like it had a good amount of grease still in it. I added some grease and now see if i get another 20 years of use haha.
Thanks for the video
What STIHL sellers fail to tell anyone quite often is that only the FS-94 and higher models have this grease point on them. (STIHL told me that themselves before anyone says otherwise!) 😠
If you own say an FS-40 or an FS-70 RC for example you will have to take the head off and yes, they still ought to be greased even though STIHL will tell you they are 'maintenance-free'.
Useful video for people this, well done.
I've used my Stihl whipper snipper for 15 years still going strong, never missed a beat and I never new you had to grease it up, 😂 just goes to she how strong they truly are.
true
how ofter grass in a year?
@@svetlifishing580 On average about 2 hours per week for the past 15 years at least.
I'm beginning to think they just want another revenue source. Selling you grease. Seems many people have gone 20 years without grease maintenance.
Me too. I recently checked the grease level after god knows how many years and it still was fine
My head is less than a year old, felt hot to my hand. I'ma give it some grease 😊 like your video is short & to point 👍👍
Thanks for the feedback, keep up the good work 😎
Thank you, thank you. I just received 3 tubes of Stihl multilub thinking there was only one kind. You saved my machine which I put away awaiting for my FS lube.
Making two different grease thread fittings was not their best engineering. Great video. 😃👍
Wow I’m over 25 years on a Deere xt140 and never it should be greased. I’ve owned many stihls and none compare to this beast
Thanks, I had no idea it needed grease!
I didn't either until I noticed it was hot to the touch so I looked it up.
The Torx you see on all the Stihl equipment is T27, BTW.
Britain’s only greased strimmer - good stuff
The worlds only greased trimmer! Accept for my Honda because it pukes it out, so it has to be re-added.
Thanks for advice. You learn something every day👍
Thank you sir🤙💪, i didnt knew the trimmer needed grease. I was wondering why it gets hot that easy...
I put in a grease fitting works off my grease gun perfectly
Gracias por tu video
Was really helpful thanks a lot
If you put too much grease in there... You'll damage it. The hedge-cutter attachment is more likely to be damaged by putting too much grease in.
This is correct
Excellent information, thankyou. 🖐🇦🇺
Bloody beautiful mate
Thanks for not yelling 👍👍
will it stop all the vibration if you haven't greased
No all, its still a combustion machine but this will limit and vibration of the cutting end of the machine cause by the gearbox
Nice demo but you don't tell how many times per work hours you have to check/supply grease. My experience is that it can consume grease by loosing it while hot and escaping through the bottom axel. If that is the case, the bottom bearing is not properly sealing. You'll find residu of grease below the cutter head when you disassamble the whole thing right up to where you can look at the bottom casing of the transmission. Some heads need grease every say 10 hours or so, others last a life time. Also depends on the type of cutting (wire/blade, weeds or branches) you're doing. Also Chinese-build heads often start to loose grease over the years, but original Stihls are much stronger and tighter.
Hi Ernie, thanks for the message - we recommend following the user manuals guidelines for each particular machine, as each will have diffrent service or greasing intervals.
@@internationalgreenkeepers Yep, I see your point of view, thing is ; I bought this ATH35z strimmer which is in fact a Honda GX35 engine with an extra back-mounted chassis, flex- and straight beam to a strimmerhead BUT they forgot to document this gearbox maintenance. So I'm trying to decide what to do myself about it by looking at others. Any suggestions? Any "average" intervals? I'm using a alu head with 2-wires. There's (not yet) escaping any grease from the bottom. If I start pushing in grease, say every 50h or so, I'm just gonna kill it because bearings also need space to get rid of their heat, as too much grease insulates them and causes overheating/weardown.
@Ernie-Tech Sure thing, Stihl recommend on newer machines to check weekly and replenish 'as required', that's open to interpretation. However they previously stated after 25 hours of use, but this can be difficult to track and users would overfill the grease leading to gear damage
@@internationalgreenkeepers Exactly what I'm trying to avoid! Thanks for confirming that. The other thing is also that none of those heads have any means of verfiying easily how much grease is in them, unless you pull out the bottom axel. The poor sight in the filler opening does say a thing about the amount of grease that is really in there. I get the idea, seen the vivid market of (oem- and origial) strimmerhead markets, this is all so badly done to stimulate an after sales market... 😞
@Ernie-Tech No problem, in all honesty the engines themselves give up before the gears in my experience, I've had one machines that's probably been greased twice in 10 years and probably has over 500 hours of use if not more. I usually say, if you remove the screw and see grease everything is okay, but there are lots of variables as you mention, attachment, temperature, usage length, etc
Great video!!!! every how long should we grease this???
Stihl recommends every 25 hours of use but more often if possible.
Thanks
Thanks buddy..!
thanks!!
awsome bro
I have put a grease nipple on my 525 Husqvarna 8 years old now 👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
My stihl trimmer doesn't have that, idk how to grease it
why type of grease are you using
Is this applicable to all trimmers, even electric? I have a Ryobi electric?
Best to check the manual for each specific machine, some will have. Some will be sealed units. Hope this helps 👍
Is this required on ego batter powerload line trimmers too??
I would check the manual, or speak to your local representative. Each machine can be different, it's possible they may have sealed bearings.
Tip:
Lubricate right after you finish using the trimmer, while the head is still warm. It's gonna make the lubricant less viscous, enhancing it's distribution.
That's an awesome tip!

Is it normal for gearbox to heat up?
Yes, it is typical for them to become hot after a long use
@@internationalgreenkeepersThanks. I had the same question. The gearbox on my Stihl FS110 gets hot when using it. I’ve greased it before and regreased it again just now.
what happens if the threaded bit of the tube doesn't fit the thread on the gearbox is the a attachment to put on the tube
That would suggest it might be the wrong grease Kevin, are you using Stihl grease?
@@internationalgreenkeepers yes i'm using still grease but i have a grease nipple on my brushcutter i don't know what to use will i just get a grease gun and high t
emperature grease
Any idea what that screw size is? I lost mine.
No but you can find the part and number here - www.gardenhirespares.co.uk/menu-parts-diagrams/stihl-parts-breakdowns/stihl-strimmer-brushcutter-parts-diagrams.html
Didn’t know you had to do that unless it’s leaking out
Stihl recommends every 25 hours of use but more often if possible.

i have got the FS 45C my dealer told me this model no need to grease.
Some models which don't have bearings in the head don't require grease. This is usually the top handle models
Could you put a grease zerk there and use the grease gun instead?
A special type of grease is needed for the trimmer heads.
@@moorphyus I put a grease zero on the head. I'll see how long the trimmer head lasts. My Shindaiwa trimmer is 24 years old. Maybe it will keep going?
Yes - but you'll need the correct grease and attachment to fit
My stihl FS55 R does not have a bolt to remove, nothing.
Yes - these machines are sealed and don't require the same about of lubrication, you can however follow the manual recommendation. When changing the head or inspecting, add a small drop of grease into the gears.

I need a grease, how to get it?
You can order online from many dealers and suppliers
👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
You can put a grease Alamite in it and just use a grease gun
mine doesnt need that
Not all have points to lubricate. Please refer to manual on those that don't
Mine either. I’ve got the FS311 and there is nothing in the manual about greasing. I cant find the grease port anyway either. But it sounds like it needs grease so I dont know what to do.
@@chrischambless some heads just run off no grease which is nice if does sound like it does take in get it checked out i use fs 55 rc and small one never used grease

Tell how to lube a trimmer head without a lube hole not with what is obvious
Hi Tom. In these cases either they are sealed units or once you take the head off, you can remove the plates and put grease directly onto the gears - Check the owners manual for more detailed information on your machine
