thx for sharing. they claiming that this gearbox dont need grease and your case shows that its fine without, but I use my streamer everyday so in my case I think it does need some grease. Also i think very highly about stihl equipment. I think its the best
Thank You for the video. After 20 years (yes... twenty-btw still works) I bought a second one FS 55, I was shocked that the greasing point is missing. Seller told me it is maintenance free.....!!! The old one I greased 1-2 x per year, never NEVER failed the gearbox. Great idea the greasing adapter, like it.
Good idea. Just bought one and I knew the gearbox needed greasing but I love the useage of the nozzle to reach the correct point. Thank ou and I wish you well.
Brilliant! Kudos to you for thinking to post this! No Kudos to Stihl and Echo that decided they could show they don’t really give a damn about making products that are easy to maintain😡
You have solved the question which has been bothering me for 3 years.Thank you Sir.I have Stihl fs 260 with no greasing spot, thank you a lot on an excellent advice, you are awesome. If I put 5 ml of Stihl grease in ,would that be too much or too little ?P.S.For three years my trimmer is lubricated with"for life, factory closed" 😅as the dealer said.Greetings from Croatia.
Thanks for the maintenance tip. The Stihl dealer says these are sealed & non-serviceable. Guess is they want to sell more trimmers. Even a sealed unit that doesn't leak will break- grease is subject to heat & shearing ( parts rubbing on each other) causes the grease to dry out. If the dealer had told me before purchase the gear unit was sealed, I would have bought one that wasn't sealed. Dealer will also tell you that replacing the gears cost nearly what the machine cost to begin with.
You can drill and tap the side of the head for a grease, (zerk), fitting there without any problem. I've done it before without any issues. Takes about 15 minutes.
be very carefull. i have broke the original and replace it with better one for easy usage in the future. make sure you have bright size tool to undo it as its really tight
I am using small 2.5cc syringe and fill 2.5cc to 3cc is enought but greasing 2 times a season. I will do today. Cos my main brush cutter sub one is bike gandle shindaiwa mountain use professional.
I think it is possible. Not bad idea - but after the warranty. For me it's not that big problem as this machine is my backup and only need to do this one per season
I come to a halt at the 1.33 mark. The screw/bolt will not screw out. The nearest allen wrench in either metric or us either spins or gets a grip that can strip the female part of the screw out. I notice that you have a whacking big bolt. Did that mean you stripped the allen wrench and replaced it?
I've owned mine since 2008 and never knew you needed to grease it. Luckily it wasn't damaged. I guess stihl does make excellent equipment.

@@mk15handyman Stihl is definitely the best. And that's coming from a former Craftsman user.
I just bought a FS 56, this is extremely useful. Thanks for sharing.

I carefully drilled & tapped a hole in the head of my FS70R, which had no grease port, and I installed a grease zerk. Works great.
Great. Thx for sharing with us
Which tap # did you use?
Just what I was looking for, very useful info, thank you!
Great to hear!

Excellent post, very useful to FS56 and FS70 users!!
Thx for watching and thanks for nice comment
Thanks for posting this, I really appreciate it. 👍
Hi Jim. Thanks for that comment. You just made my day 😀
@@mk15handyman :)
Thank you for this - mine keeps welding the line in the head so hopefully a bit of grease will help stop getting it so hot
Hopefully that will resolve your problem. Thx for watching and getting back to me
A tab bit of oil in the spool, grease the flex shaft, gear Head assembly
Thanks a lot for this video, well done and now i know exactly what i needed. Thanks again for this and best wishes!
Glad it helped!
My older FS90 has a grease port. Remove a bolt on the side of the gearbox. Looks like the crooks eliminated it… for obvious reasons.
Yes. I Reay don't know why they did it. What a shame.
$$ of course :(
Head dries up / goes Bad...and then you need to Replace tge whole trimmer :(@@mk15handyman

the commercial models from echo have the grease point

Thx for great coment. Yes 5ml is plenty. Even less is fine if you grease it more often
@@mk15handyman :)
I just put a grease fitting in the hose of the grease gun and use that to get grease into the slot

Thanks, i have fs 55, the video is very useful !
Excellent tip thank you for posting 👍👍
No problem 👍
Exactly the video I was looking for. Thanx!
Glad it was helpful! Thx for watching. And please like and subscribe
Can you do a grease fitting like for a car?
Not sure. But I do think think that would be a problem. Grease is grease
Be aware! Don't over grease it or it will heat up. i used 1/4 of a tube and it was too much.
That is great advice. Thank you. Wow 1/4 tube. I usuly use very very little. A drop or two
@@mk15handyman :)
I have a video on doing this exact thing! Great job brother🤘🤘
Thx
I wonder if you can put a 1/4" zerk onto the head for easy greasing.
Going to try it on the next junk unit
way to go
I think so
thx
Thx for watching
Will the grease get into the sealed bearings where it's needed.
Yes I would think so
thank you
thank you very much mk15handyman very helpfull indeed thank you
Happy that you liked it and thx for your comment
Ta ,thanks good tip.
Thx for your comment
so good

Do that with your fc91 edger also
Thanks for your comment. I appreciate it
How did you take out that screw on the bolt after taking off the cover? I feel like I'm gonna brake the wrench it's on solid

Do you think it's feasible to add a grease zerk fitting where its missing there grease access point?
I think it is possible. Not bad idea - but after the warranty. For me it's not that big problem as this machine is my backup and only need to do this one per season
been thinking of doing that but haven't seen anyone else showing if it can be done.

Yes I had the same problem and I have replased that bolt for easyer usage for future
Köszönöm!!
I never know how much grease to squirt in there
Not too much. It depends how heavy its been used
@@mk15handyman :)
Where did you get the tip
the perfect tip is from silicon tube, the screw on tipe. It fits perfectly and cost almost nothing
What type of gear box is fa 55 called😢
Non greaseable gearbox.they don't last long,i purchased one from eBay,still going strong
I'm not sure
This is NOT how to grease the FS 56 RC there is literally ZERO reason to have it in the title
If you know how to do it different way please share it. That's the best I could do it. But don't tell me that it does not need it
What a d bag comment
