  • Hi everyone and welcome to another comparison video between two premium compact camera systems! It’s the compact Canon PowerShot G11 vs Sony’s only 1.0 type sensor smartphone camera, the Xperia PRO-I. Join me as we review their photos captured throughout various times of the day and lighting conditions. Can the aging Powershot G11 still hang with the Xperia PRO-I’s more modern cameras? Let’s find out!
About 85% of the photos from both cameras were taken handheld and the other 15% on a tripod. They were also exposed to windy conditions and or hot/humid environments. This may have impacted the quality of their photos.
Canon Powershot G11’s firmware version: 1-7.0.1.0
Sony Xperia PRO-I Photography Pro version: 1.3.2.A.1.0

I have the Xperia Pro I and it made me want to get a dedicated camera. I still use the Xperia Pro-I because I loved what Sony did recycling the sensor but the biggest downfall is the overheating issue in video mode but with a phone cooler and using the cinema pro app that kind of solves that issue. Phone wise I haven't felt the need to upgrade because I shoot raw and love editing my photos

Nice! I got the Xperia PRO-I because of Sony's ZV1 digital camera. I thought it would be nice to have a similar setup on a device with a larger display and rapid upload of pics to social media.
We have some things in common! I have the same issues as you in regard to overheating while recording video and even when taking photos. I also use the PRO-I mostly for raw files and then editing in LRC. I want to keep it for another few years but I'm having issues with the fingerprint scanner and various ports which can make it frustrating to deal with. But definitely one of the best camera oriented phones I've used besides the ones from the former Nokia company.

The Sony Xperia Pro-I's sharpness, color saturation, and white balance are all clearly better than those of the Canon Powershot, which was released 15 years ago. While I really like the Sony Xperia - Pro-I's camera, I'm still satisfied with my Sony Xperia 1 mark 3. 👍

What do you think of the new main and telephotos on the Xperia 1 V and VI? Do you notice a significant difference compared to the ones on yours?

I believe that the main camera has been improved with better algorithms. However, while the telemacro lens is really great, for users who rarely take close-up shots (Oppo also has the Find X3 with a macro camera), Sony should instead improve the telephoto lens so that users can take photos of distant scenes like with the current Samsung Galaxy devices.

@@hoanghan10 Yes the telephoto lens has always struggled capturing sharp and detailed photos for distant subjects for the Xperia line. That's why I stick mostly to close subjects in good lighting when using it. In fairness, Sony has frequently advertised it as a portrait/close subject lens and not really for distant subjects. I'm doing a comparison between the Samsung Note 20 Ultra and the Canon G11 now. The 120mm on the Note 20 Ultra is light years ahead of what I've seen from the Xperia line.
