Using a low-budget Camera for Nature Photography (POV)

- The Canon 550D was the first camera I ever bought. In this video, I'm taking it out for a spin in my local forest trying to capture some landscapes and wildlife. The lens (Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD) was the first telephoto lens I ever used, and it's the one that got me into Wildlife Photography, so it has a special place in my heart!

Number 1 rule, it's the person behind the camera that matters a lot! And well... it's you!!! SOOOO
@@ThroughJermainesLens Thank you!!🙏🏻
Well, as well as the computer for the edits.
Well... maybe rule number one is to improve with a cheap camera, using a cheap camera and a $2000 lens.
And the place dude, or the subject.
Wrong it's the lens
my first camera was the canon 450D but i switched to the sony a6400 a few month ago. I can say its a day night difference. I love your POV videos, nice shots!
i had 400D, switched to 80D few years back, also day-night difference, been thinking about switching to sony, probably 6700 😄 how do you like the 6400 so far? 😄
@@JacobBco i really like it so far, and if i could go back in time im pretty sure id still choose the a6400. The only drawback would be the screen and the missing image stabilization. I choose it over the a6600 which has img stbl. bc i got the a6400 new for a price as of a used one, and the a6600 also has the same uncomfortable non-tilting screen. So the a6700 would have been my choice if i werent on a really low budget. Also the a7m3 could be an option, but its a worse screen and has less mp, but its fullframe so... (id still choose the a6700)
@@al_photos_15Hey! I started photography with the a6000, then got the a6400 for many years and last year I switched to the A6700. I specifically got APSC again because changing my whole kit to full frame would have been to expensive for me.
What I really like about the a6700 is the rotating screen, it is quite a bit thicker and feels more robust and sturdy, also improved weather sealing compared to the a6400.
Yes of course the autofocus is a bit better. But the A6400 is still great. I think 99,9% of the time I don’t get any better pictures out of it. But still, full frame with all the new lenses would be so costly and I’m not earning any money with it. It is just a hobby. So overall I’m very satisfied with what I got. My point is, don’t think about to much about not getting the A6700, your A6400 is very capable and over the years I shot amazing pictures with it!
Please post 2hr long video of nature/wildlife photography🥺... Your videos are sooo calm, soothing and satisfying to watch.
Love from INDIA❤
2017 can absolutely be nostalgic 🙈
Haha good to know!🤩
I see an Olle vid? I get my drink and snacks and settle down for a lil bit :)
Exactly
same to me 😂😂
@@bearnecessities9568 Haha that makes me so happy to see!
Cheers!
The T2i (550D) is the only camera I bought new and it lasted me 7 years before I saw a reason to upgrade in 2018.
A good photographer can take great photos even with slightly inferior gear. An inexperienced photographer, on the other hand, won’t benefit much from having top-of-the-line equipment. The photographer’s knowledge and skill level are what matter, and the gear is just a tool. It always makes me cringe when someone says, "You take great pictures, you must have a really good camera." Great and fun video! I should dig out my old cameras and go shoot as well. Greetings from Finland!
As we can see, it's not the gear, it's the photographer! Jag har fortfarande mina Canon 70D inch 5DMIV kvar. Har tankt att salja dom men bestamde mig att behålla dom some ett minne!
Haha I currently use a t3i as my main camera. I got it back in high school, and ended up investing the money I would have spent on upgrading the body to get a Sigma 150-600mm lens. That lens with my t3i allowed me to take on bird photography as a hobby. It's got a bunch of limitations for sure, but I've still found it more than capable of taking great bird photos with the right lens.
I did the same thing, switching from the 55-250 kit lens to the 150-600 was a game changer
Agreed. No matter what your dslr body is, with sigma 150-600mm, so many opportunities are opened.
I feel like the most noticeable thing that changed so far is essentially just automatic stuff and mostly autofocus there. some of those "old and cheap" cameras are still absolute gems but just don't operate as fast as modern ones so they get written off as "bad" and sell for cheap while the image quality still rocks. Ofc iso performance, resolution and dynamic range is also important but with modern software i feel like a lot of that just doesn't matter all that much.
Would like to see a video like this with iphone 16 pro max....
Might be able to borrow one from a friend for a video!
watch all your videos, I will make blogging videos on UA-cam, which camera, which lens would be better, if you could give me a video
Try the brand new Apple iphone 16 pro max 🔥❤
you should do more videos like this man, it inspires photographers that are starting out.
THIS WAS MY FIRST CAMERA! i loved it so much, but that slow af during live mode is so true 😅
Haha yes, a lot of things has happened since.
It’s a great camera though!
Never been this earlyyyy
I love the radar detector.
first
This brings me back in time, i started on eos 400D with 75-300 4-5.6 ii, still have it though it feels pretty much unusable these days :D
We need a $0.01 Cam Rig next!
How early 🎉
This reminds me my Pentax K100D Super with Sigma 17-70 and Tamron 70-300 :)
Oh man, the loud focus sound on that thing... I startet with the Canon 250D and with the kit lens you simply couldn't take videos as focusing was always the loudest sound. But good video, as always! I love the idea behind it
Watching your video reminds me of my first camera, Canon EOS 500D. When I first bought this camera, it brought me a lot of surprises, joy and touching. Later, I was not satisfied with its feel, focus, and unpleasant shutter sound, and gradually became an equipment addict. It took a long time for me to slowly wake up from it. Photography is to enjoy the process of shooting and focus on it. In terms of photos, the 500D does have many shortcomings, but it’s not that it can’t take photos. I plan to take it out of the moisture-proof cabinet and continue to use it as a backup camera. My English is not good, so I used Google Translate to translate the above content.
This is my exact camera set up at the moment I’m hoping to get some better equipment ment soon.
Great and inspiring video Olle! Reminds me to keep shooting with my similar gear (Canon 250D and Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 nano IS II USM plus kit lens and Nifty-Fifty). I would be glad to see more videos with budget gear like that.
I want to do some wildlife and landscape photog with my Nikon d3400 once we come back to my dad's province maybe next year (To be fair, not a lot of wildlife, but there's a lot of mountains and sea there). What are some F mount lenses that I could use for some wildlife that I could find commonly second-handed, would any 70-300mm will do? I currently have the 18-55mm kit lens it came with. And, nice vid too! I like the bts work of some simple shots that take the right time in both shooting and processing!
I bought the same camera brand new in 2010-2011 with kit 18-55 and 75-300. So many great memories and trips.
I love your fog photos ❤
I don’t miss the sound of AF on those cheap lenses 😂
Environment is good, Mood is good, Feeling good, pictures are good and the cameraman is good.
Is it worth getting that camera or should I save more money for a sony a6400?
Oh yeah 550D + 70-300! My first real camera setup, still have one of the best photos with this. Recently sold it for 7Dmark2. I'm still rocking the 70-300 is usm.
After watching the full video the conclusion is it's not the camera that matters it's the person behind the lens that matters.❤❤❤❤
Beautiful !!!! Your photos of your 550D looks better than my M50 😅
I wuld love to see you doing this with the old camera most sold in the world, the one that is still being use as 1st camera for many ppl today Nikon D3100
It was my first camera😊 nice photo, you cool. Hello from Siberia
Different body but same lens, that's what i started with. My pictures were not this good tho! great video
This was fun for me to watch, I’m about to buy a new camera but the one I’ve been using for a year and a half is actually the canon t1i, so it’s even older lol
i am planing to buy the canon eos 250d do you think its good for nature/animal photograhy
The type of video that got me into your channel in the first place!!! So glad to see one of it again!😊
Great Video!
Thanks!
I like your camo outfit! Do u have a link to that jacket & gloves? fits well
I dont know why. But i like the Photos you shoot from the Deer and it was Dark.
With my limited experience in wildlife photography what i have noticed gears are secondary. It's the skill of how close you can get to the subject (specially birds). If you master that part (which comes with lots of practice being on the field) you can come up with awesome results with any camera with zoom lens.
That is very true!!
Bro Can u try the pixel 9 pro for nature photography
increase my wildlife videography from 5 thank you.
lol the casual photos you take of landscapes and roads look WAY better than ANY photos submitted to various photography subreddits and competitions. amazing. thanks for the great video
Haha thank you for saying that!
There are definitely way more talented people than me out there. But I really appreciate the words!
Thank you for taking us along
Love the effects 😂🙏🏻 This goes to show that the person behind the camera matters!
Always appreciate a good POV-video 🫶🏻
Hahah 😂🙌
Thanks, I’m glad you liked it Anders!
Great one Mr! Love the fog! Need to try a POV myself sometime!
@@Daniel_Oberg Thank youuuu!
You definitely should!😍
Your video and photos very beutiful ❤ village phots
Thanks a lot!
Snake? SNAAAAAKE 😂😂😂
Which model is this
May I miss SONY.......
Great video! A suggestion I had, you could possibly do a budget challenge with something like a Canon 7d ii or 1DX mark I where both are extremely capable for wildlife coming at around 500-600€
Thanks for the idea!
I started on the 550D. It's truly incredible how far cameras have come. Technology just leapt ahead to the point where focus speed isn't even discussed anymore, for example.
Yes, it really is incredible!
I just YESTERDAY upgraded from my 550D/T2i, and it served me very very well. I got excited to see it here! The sound of that shutter will live in my head forever. Lovely video, and lovely photos!
What a coincidence!
Hope you’ll be happy with your new setup. And yes, the sound of the shutter brings back memories for sure! haha
Now we want film camera pov.
According to the quality and talent of a cameraman you are, I truly believe the picture will come out dope.
Also, I enjoyed watching this one as your other videos.🤩
Cheers Ollie🥰🥰🥰
Thanks for believing in me! But the thing is, I have nooooo experience with film cameras😆😂
After removing and installing the lens outdoors with that lens, did you clean the camera sensor?
Nope!
I am so happy seeing this mainly bc I have a 700d myself with the 55-250mm lens from canon and this really shows that I can still learn a lot behind the camera. Lots of love from the Netherlands and please keep making these videos
You can come so far with the gear you have. Glad it inspired you, means a lot!
Auto focus is a nightmare for LS photography. Manual focus all the way.
Sounds you use fuji!?
Just what I needed for this rainy day/boring workday. I can't wait to get out shooting photos again Sunday morning. 🔥
Glad to hear that!
Good luck on Sunday!
That Tamron 70-300 VC is quite a good lens anyway (I have it), it better quality than the similar priced Canon alternative.
I like that lens too!
13:50 I can feel the frustration through the video of not getting some birds in the photos you just took 😄
Haha yes, very frustrating 😆
Hey Ollie, great video! Are you using GoPro for the POV?
Thanks!
Yes I do, but just ordered the Action 5 Pro!
Riktigt snyggt Olle!
Tack Martin!
Hey Snake, you should’ve tried your cardboard box trick with those deer! 😊
Fun video Ollie!!!
your color grading skill is very impressive
thank you!🙏🏻
My first ever camera! Still great images.
It’s a great camera 😃
This lens's price is too high 😢
Try the 55-250mm lens
The video i've been waitng for :D
Amazing man, as always full support, obviously because I got inspired to pursue wildlife photography straight from you.
I have a canon EOS 100d , I am from India, I was thinking about getting the ef 70-300 because the tamron 70-300 isn't available in India online.
if you could saving your money a little more, you might want to get sigma 150-600mm.
Your coverage in wildlife will be greatly improved rather than 70-300mm.
@@Durio_zibethinus thanks for the recommendation. But the more gap there is in the focal length in that lens at such affordable price seems kind of under performing than the other short range lenses at this price point I would say.
Depends, if you have used it please tell me how it performs with an aps-c sensor, if it gets soft and vignettes around 300-600mm at wide apertures Or not.
@@L-FITNESS it works even on older APSC DSLR such as Canon 40D. So I don't think it will be worse on newer one like 550D or 100D. You can watch professional challenging themselves with older DSLR but using sigma 150-600mm on UA-cam.
The problem is 100D is designed as compact as possible, hence have a small grip. If you have a bigger hand, your comfort might be compensated.
@@Durio_zibethinus 😂I am 5"11' so my hands just gulp the whole camera
@@L-FITNESS what a gap, I will recommend to try it first on the store, and imagine your comfortability as if using it for hours on field.
Good luck.
Great video..
Thanks a ton!
Nice video 👍
Thanks!
@@ollenilssonen 👍🙂
Thanks bro this is just what i needed
Thanks for watching bro!
Thanks for making great vids!
What good wildlife camera would you recomend for cheap
Is this dji action 5 pro?
@@Albertoabrian It’s the GoPro 11!😃
This is incredibly beautiful! You deserve much more attention 🥹
Thank you so much!!
Dude you are so bad I bought Xperia due to you now I used it as my Sony a73 monitor
