- Fleetwood Mac performs very old song from their 60´s and 70´s blues times called Oh Well. But with new guys Billy Burnette and Rick Vito. Great version from Tango tour in 1987! Enjoy!
I was there ! The Old Cow Palace, in SF ! And, I was blown away by just how much better they were with Vito & Burnett . RIP, yo my FAVORITE, THE GORGEOUS CHRISTINE. -------------------MJL, 76 y/o
By FAR-------THE best version of this song I ever heard live.
Loved this line up.
it's just NOT possible to fully appreciate how well Vito & Burnette mastered this music in the short time they had before this tour began. That both were total pros, surely made the difference. --------MJL
Billy Burnette & Rick Vito were fantastic. I saw this show & absolutely, it was the very best FM line-up, ever.
Green was the heart and soul of this band and it died when he left it.
Nice to see Rick Vito is playing with The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band, and still performing this song.
Saw this Tour at Wembley Arena way back, thought it was great, saw FM in Dublin 2015 and have to say Buckingham was unreal, never stopped the whole show, but I still think Veto & Burnett filled in well.
Their names are Billy Burnette and Rick Vito. They were on this tour (1987-88)and also on Behind the Mask tour of Fleetwood Mac in 1990.
This was great in Edmonton. I didn`t expect it at all, but it`s one of my favourites.
Glad I can enjoy all incarnations of the Mac without having to dump on most of them. This is a pretty hard-hitting "Oh, Well" and I love the power of it. Totally different from how P. Green did it, but I love both versions.
And shouldn't Mick & John have some say about whether or not to cover a song they originally played on? I love the fact that two of the original artists feel qualified to perform this song, and a bunch of Internet pro's feel qualified to say otherwise!
Rick Vito is so amazing!
Yes, it's just cool that they're doing it. Plus it's a tribute to the original Fleetwood Mac and Peter Green. Excellent.
This is Rick vito and Billy Burnette, played on the behind the mask tour, i saw them at wembley in '89, good show but crying out for Lyndsey.
Great version in a 80s setting
This is incredible. It may not be as gritty as early MAC, but it is more soulful. Saying one is better than the other is just splitting hairs. Like comparing two outstanding wines, neither can be called bad, and you should be glad you get a chance to drink it.
Preach it brother! Nothing beats Danny and Peter. Especially this! Not even close.
But, i gotta say, this version is technically flawless...
Best version ever!!Incredible but it's true (for me of course)
Rick and Billy played on tango tour too (this video is proof ;-). At Wembley FM played on June 18. and 19. ´88 and also on Sept 1. ´90, but not in ´89. Only for information ;-). I know that most of people miss Lindsey in these tours and find him better, but I like these shows more than others. But also because of the songs on setlist, not only because of lineup.
This is brilliant ! Vito just kills on his slide guitar !! -----------------------------WolfSky9, 72 y/o
Those two are the only ones that have been around forever
This has all the integrity and value of that remake of The Wicker Man.
This a pretty good version.
Great song.. Thanks!
sweet 80s attire
Peter Green is the only one who can do this song justice
No one else even comes close.......
good cover
Can you believe little Stevie would end up with this being HER band
Oops, my mistake (sorry). Regardless, I think this is a good version of "Oh Well." I'm a big Peter Green fan, and I'm glad the 87 Fleetwood Mac decided to pay tribute to him in their set.
GREAT version. Fuck the fashion, that's not the point. Peter Green had TWO other guitarists backing him up! Wonderful song by Green, and a killer performance. All sixteen members of FM brought something to the magic of the band. Burnette and Vito were no exception, and absolutely right for FM.
Come back Peter, its time to rise again!
Amen!
great tone........great song
To all the " FM purists" out there, let me tell you------Peter Green could not have done this any better ! ------------------------------------WolfSky9, 72 y/o
Hahaha you literally just have to look it up and the first video of PGFM is better, more pure then this overblown 80’s nonsense
Superb version---& I don't understand all the negative entries at all-----------------------WolfSky9
Ok, OK, I confess : I don't know just WHAT a " slide guitar" is, but I do know Rick Vikto was SCREAMING ON HIS !! ----------------WolfSky9
Fair comment about Vito. My opinion's based purely on this performance and what F.M. came to stand for. I saw the original line up several times and they smoked! Real raw blues. This has all the sharp bits smoothed off. I've seen Greeny a couple of times recently and his confidence is zero when he comes on stage. It takes a lot of boosting by Mike Dodd, who's brilliant and obviously cares hugely about the man, and audience response, which he gets in bucketloads. Then he starts to turn it on.
Went to see Peter Green at the Komedia Club, in Bath last night. Even in his pretty fragile state, his version of 'Oh Well!' knocked the SH 1 T out of this awful west coast mullet-headed rubbish.
Good concert - GO GREENY!!
This song was played last year during Unleashed tour where Lindsey played guitar. You can search some video of that here...
Check out "The Screaming Beans" version of this song, the young guy who plays guitar for them is awesome!
green's song's concept resonates to those that get it and not many can belly up to a cover without it sounding phony...hail peter green, his version of both the bluesbreakers and mac
wow.....brutal.
@lakelandchief Lindsey and STevie were not in the band when this song was released ... Bob Welsh and Peter Green were original members of FM. I was born in '84 and I have been a FM fan since the day I was born. I love them! My mom was a huge fan... and had all their vinyls... up to 1989 (when she passed). I think she looked a lot like Stevie nicks... and it COULD be the reason why I love them so much... but It could also be because they are one of a kind. The best song writers / musicians ever
This is a great version ! -----------I saw them twice in '87----------best FM ever, IMO. ----------Vito was absolutely awesome on that guitar ! Peter Green would have smiled -----------Better than Welch or LB, by far. -------------------------------------WolfSky9, 72 y/o
I feel like i just watched thsi guy make an ok cover of gods song. Respect Greeny
this makes my skin crawl
Damn took 2 to replace Lindsey...........Oh Well!
The cat is so small that I can pick him up and hold him.
I totally agree with you Kristopful.
"Mick" still pounding out those heavy deep Drumm rythms
Peter forgive us.......yes, there's a wonderful video of Peter doin it here somewhere, raw, joyful, beautiful.........I think these mullet boys came first in their class @ the conservatory, only to lose the spirit of Music itself...........the way he says do you want some blues, like oh, would you like to see it in blue? Would you like fries with that?........I'm hurling......
Oh Dear. As the graves turn in Richmond Park.
@lakelandchief Peter Green wrote it back during the original FM lineup.
Yes, this is the same version.
that was something id expect from the people who play at home in frnt of their cameras. these are 2 professionals with all the equipment and they couldnt have played any worse
I like it.
Yep! - we're in agreement. Doesn't happen too often on UA-cam from what I've been reading. It's been good to chat. Cheers!
@BeauJames59 AGREED! I guess that the "music machine" was in full bore at this point, and Mick and John either didn't care, or thought it was "acceptable". But I'm with you on this one... saw the Buckingham/Nicks version of "the Mac" do this once. As much as I appreciated them as a duo prior to their joining FM, it just wasn't the same.
Any Buckingham-less Mac, ain't the Mac...
Thumbs "Up" for the music; Thumbs "down" for the vocals. What is that? The "West Coast Coffee Bar Wanna-be Blues" vocals???
amerocker agreed the vocals were.... Hmm not great.
Ha ha even the guitars are shite
I found the original and got chills up my spine when listening to it- is so good.
3:20 to 3:22 Bass player Lee Sklar in the audience
The 80's hair and clothes look so dated and goofy, but that's how most bands were dressing at the time. This is a good cover of "Oh Well." Buckingham does a nice job here and I think it's cool that they included some of the band's early music in the 1987 show. It isn't really fair to compare Buckingham to Green in this circumstance--Green was unavailable and Buckingham did a nice job of filling his shoes here. I'll bet the audience were pleased.
This is nice, but if u have the double live album from the Tusk era, check out them doing this song w/ Lindsey...VERY cool!! (But, of course, nobody does this song better than Peter!!)
Peter Green wrote and recorded this song with Fleetwood Mac in the 1960's. I think it's still the best version. He was a guitar genius.
@lakelandchief Yes it was Peter Green's masterpiece from 1969. Got to no. 2 in the charts in UK!
Oh dear should be the name of this now!!!! take it off or bring green back!!!
lord knows i love fleetwood mac, and the talent cup runeth over in this video. but this doesn't even come close to the peter green version i just watched.
Scary hair. Great song.
HURL
i think its a oretty good Version considering that they were pulled in 2 weeks before the Tango tour. No Lindsey Buckingham or Peter Green but i enjoy this version.
When I was there in '87, it became so clear to me that 3 guitars, in the hands of real pros like Vito / McVie/ Burnett, ARE better------far better-------than 2. They just are. ----------------MJL< 76 y/o
@davetowers1 When Peter Green did it, it was the blues, when this lot do it, it's just music.
such a betrayal of the original
Peter Green was a brilliant blues guitarist but as you said, I thing Lindsey would have trumped him when it came to the music that really got them noticed and skyrocketed to one of the best rock and roll bands of all time
I know because I was there the cow palace
I must of missed this mac era... Well shit
Oh well..
Peter Green is a truly inspired musician. The Macs had to go "Their Own Way". They are still tremendous song-writers, it would be best if they left out of their gigs songs written by Peter. Peter rules!
This is the 80's in a nutshell, let's take a terrific song and make it terrifying.
WHAT TO HEAR GREENY'S VERSION!
@5891jonathan
You sir are right!!!
The Great Plague of Hair.
k ive just watched lindsay play this and id say these guys r actually much better.
C'mon guys, this is not a tough song to play. Maybe Green was better, but this is not a big challenge...now, maybe the long version. :
@Brazeau49 Okay, when Burnette and Vito joined it died but no no, Rumors is a fine album.
Man thats funny
well, they're gone!
the only reason this was descent is because the original rhythm section is still there.
Is this video a joke? Late 80's Fleetwood Mac I can do without.
yes, and showing that you can get all the notes right and "kill" the spirit of the piece..........
Jeez...... was this filmed at a John Stamos Impersonation Convention or what?!?!?
Yeah, closer to the original is the version of The Bluesfuse
I think they did ok. Of course no one will do it as well as the original. Cut them some slack. It's not their fault that PG and LB left.
This isn´t Buckingham, but Billy Burnette is singins here! Buckingham left Fleetwood Mac in 1987.
After watching this shit I threw my Rumours CD in the bin...Fuck 'em...
How can you blame Billy and Rick for the lyrics? Peter Green wrote those lyrics, and he did not think that they were "God awefull [sic]".
Ah, you might have me here. I checked liner notes for the "Chicago" CD my reference was not there. I keep thinking it came from Mick's autobiography, which I sadly loaned out and never got back.
Of course there are well-documented stories of Willie Dixon suing Led Zep (rightfully, IMO) for using his compositions without credit or royalties. And Howlin' Wolf's reticence toward the London Sessions with Clapton, Winwood, etc. Point is, why not let the music stand on its own merits, period?
This is a really sanitized version! The original is so much better.
