- can you connect a USB network adapter to a Mobile phone? Apparently, you can!
In this very short video I demonstrate connecting a Trendnet TU3-ETG network adapter to my Google Pixel 2 phone. There was no drive to install, it simple recognized the NIC and began using it.
In order to be sure I was really getting my network traffice from the USB network card, I put my phone in "AirPlane Mode" which shuts off all other wireless networking method (wifi, mobile data, bluetooth).

But you'd also need a USB A-C converter

Apple: We're going to remove all ports
This dude: Hold my ethernet cable
😆😆
apple in 2025: uhh so we do not have any ports u have to buy our 5k wireless charger separately
That was a pretty cool video. Thanks!
Do you have any suggestions for making this work with a Motorrola G4 plus, which has a USB micro-B connector. I tried it and it didn't work. What phone are able to do this?
Helpful! Thanks
why ,when i using i-tec usb-c/rj45 and air plane mode my phone not working
for Apple equipment (iPhone or iPad), you have to have it charging during all of this to give sufficient power. I have the USB camera adapter that has a USB-A port AND a charging port. Plug your USB-A to eithernet adapter in the USB port and plug your charging cable into the other port. Do that part FIRST, then plug in your network cable to the adapter. You won't see anything on screen, just like in this video. When you check your network properties....it will show as an internet connection, AUTOMATICLY swithcing over from cellular or wi-fi connections.
Good tip Mike. Thanks for adding. I had not yet tried this trick with my iPhone 11, so now I know. 😄
Best converter i ever see
man, this is amazing
What spesification/ brand of "usb to microusb" you use to connect ethernet ?
Was just wondering if this was possible, so I searched UA-cam and ended up here. Thanks for sharing the info that it can work, and how you did it.👍
I just searched this too. Wonder if it'll be good for mobile gaming?
@@sleepy1171 If you have 5Ghz Wi-Fi and good signal strength, probably not. Ethernet still has the best latency and stability, but 5ghz is a close second. Regarding battery, there are usb ethernet adaptors with charging pass-through if needed
❓️❔️🤔 👉 Can this device be used to deliver ethernet internet via USB-C tethering cellular data while adding an ethernet switch/PC for better speed/latency than, otherwise, using cellphone mobile WiFi hotspotting? .....
🤔 If so, from some additional cost, would a USB-C hub with Power Delivery\PD and an ethernet\RJ45 jack (among other ports on the hub) deliver the data tethering while also keeping the phone charged during cellular [ethernet] tethering with the benefit of also having HDMI output from phone to TV (various resolution/framerate support applies) or running a (Samsung) phone in Dex mode with a keyboard+mouse while viewing the Dex on monitor/TV with access to USB/(micro)SD card storage that's plugged into the hub, albeit slower data and framerate than a docking station? Really, curious about charging while ethernet data tethering from my cellphone.

Can I use the Ethernet adapter for my xbox
can I buy like that for micro usb?
Can it work with a Samsung Galaxy A50?
Do you have WIFI Calling? Can you heck if the WIFI Calling will work with Ethernet connection?
can you connect a "usb wifi adapter" such as NETGEAR WiFi USB 2.0 Adapter (A6200), and connect to Samsung Galaxy (or Apple) phones?
Hi, nice video ! Please tell me, your celphone is usb 2.0 or 3.0 ? In other words, can you use an ethernet adaptor 3.0 if your phone or tablet has usb 2.0 ?
Can i use your cables for my samsung galaxy note 8 ?
Sir without airplane mode we can run the net from Lan wire
What usb c adaption have you used?
Share the product information from where we can get it...?
Is that gonna help me to load and watch forn?
How do i know which adapter is the right one for my samsung galaxy a32 5g??
What is your internet speed? If you have say 100mb broadband what sort of speeds could you get on your phone.
Can this work the other way around. If i want to not use the hotspot network on my phone but instead route data thru the nick to the router and then connect my laptop to the router's network?
I know someone who uses this sort of adaptor for his chromebook with great results
what about the other way around? Just wondering if possible to share phones data USBC/RJ45 adapter? I have ab IP security camera with no wifi just RJ45t. All tested and working perfectly through a windows10 desktop. My Samsung 10 Android has hotspot and a usb-c port both tested and working great in other applications. I tried connecting the camera to my phone via USBC/RJ45 same as you. Hotspot is turned on so I have a Chromebook using my phones data plan and was hoping I could find or see the camera. When I open the hotspot setting page on my phone it sees my laptop device, but nothing else also is not reporting any device as tethered through the USBC? Maybe I need a new adapter since mine is very old.
Thanks, very helpfu !

thanks for watching. Glad to have viewers from all over the world! :-)
Are you able to use your phone data for pc's and consoles for network internet/data?
Amazing. Just bought one for my laptop. Will try this on my phone... 😍😍😍
Great! Some people say it works straightaway, other say you have to install something called OTG
@@NetworkAdvisor just wondered, why would you want to do this? What benefit is there?
Two possible reasons:
1. You have some diagnostic app or process you need to perform on the wired network with your phone (ie. Port scan, angry IP, Fing).
2. You’re trapped working in a location where you have neither access to Wifi or cellular. This used to happen to me a lot when I was working in data centers. But if I hunted around enough I could sometimes find a open network that would let me plug in and get raw internet access. 😁
@@NetworkAdvisor 3. Ethernet to mobile best for mobile streamers
Would it be possible to gain internet connection on a phone through a landline?
Hi, I am trying to connect the ethernet cable to TP link access point router to get WIFI.. Unfortunately, wifi is showing no internet access. I need your help
Any android phone with OTG can use any usb to ethernet adapter and internet works via ethernet. There are many usb-c to ethernet adapters available for less than 20eur/usd/gbp on amazon, ebay, ...
Thanks !
My Motorola supports otg but I have a similar adapter, it is Ethernet to usb-c with 3 usb-A ports additionally, and it didn't work. It only can connect to other USB devices, but no internet trough the Ethernet plug. Probably we need application that does the trick.
is the connection unidirectional? from modem to smartphone or also from smartphone to router?
Great vid again, keep up the good work! Thanks.
Hsh
Can you do this from phone to ps4/5 lan slot? Because the ps4/5s does not support regering trough usb, i wonder
I have a USB to multi out puts and plugged it into a s10e and it work then into an s8 and it failed probably android 10 is needed
But, is there a way to make calls and texts in Airplane mode this way?
does it work if i connect the otg to mifi then connect to PC?
Usb lan gigabyte adaptor can be used in hp pavilion g4 laptop
I want to do it the other way. Connect my iphone hotspot to the wan port of the router. There are 35 devices connected to the router and the wired broadband connection is sometimes unreliable. Therefore, I was thinking if it is possible to supply internet to the router by other means. is this possible ?
But i immediately went to the cellphone sir, how do i do that?
Got it! I tried everything except turning on the airplane mode! Thanks it really helped.
Will it work on any Phone???
Will this run the internet in the opposite direction? I have a tablet that gets the internet via a sim card. I want to run internet from my tablet out through an ethernet to other devices in my garage where there is no other internet
I am not sure, but it would not surprise me if someone had written an app just for this sort of thing. It's almost like tethering except by LAN cable instead of USB.
Interesting question. 🤔
so now connected PC will have Static IP instead of Dynamic.
do you get higher speeds than wifi??
Thanks a lot !!! Airplane mode fixed my connection ))))
Does it actually work
I really hope to see that a 1gbps speed. But nearly 10mbps.
:)
Can my old earphone transfer data as usb cable
Internet is working but the ping is constant after connecting to a ethernet adapter the ms is 460 ms it's not changing ! Help
What if I use the WiFi on my phone and plug the Ethernet cable into my ps5, would my ps5 then have a wired connection?
I would think this would be the way to go if you were using the phone for the internet as the use of wifi is so terribly slow.
Can you get Internett trough Cabel with this?
This has 2 parts. From ethernett to cell phone wire. Then reversed cell phone wire to cell phone connection.
Hi- thx. I've got an Asus Z_01RD, Zenfone 5Z, with Android 10 and I just bot an ethernet to usb-C on Amazon and it doesn't seem to work. This is a pretty new phone. I rebooted the phone just to see if that helped- no joy. I've got Bluetooth, NFC, Wifi and data off. Is there anything that needs to be "on"? to get it to work. I'm using Chrome browser on my phone. Also I noticed in some comments that an app is talked about for this. I did search the Ggl play store for "usb ethernet adapter" and got some result however I can't tell if any are for this application and also am leary about what might come with some of them. thx for the video
up. i have a same question
so nice hearing someone say router correctly
ahahah, blame it on my southern (US) up-bringing.😆
Great stuff. Im wondering if i can connect a 5g adapter to my 4g phone in the same way?
Which set on you hand
Does it deliver the maximum potential speed like 100mbps or even 300mbps?
From a local network perspective (LAN) the speed is at least 100Mbps (maybe even 1Gpbs if the phone and the adapter are capable). As far as internet speed is concerned, it would get a similar speed to other devices on the network. So if your PC internet speed was 20/400, the phone would probably be similar.
Will it increase internet speed?
Ofcourse thats why its also better to use the Pc with a Lan Cable
@@Huzuh. AMEN! basic sh*t! :)
Was anything else required to get this to work? Like rooting the device and modifying the network configuration? Or does the Pixel 2 support USB reverse tethering out of the box?
I don't think so just that some smart phones support it and others don't
Seems that way.
long story short, it depend on what usb to ethernet model and if its supported by ur android device, in this video that adapter is well known good adapter and his device have the "ko" kernel driver for it, not to mention ur phone should support OTG or u cant use any usb/microusb/type c devices, usually only very old devices can't support otg
Is this supported for vivo t1z
Can i use phone as modem, and connect to WAN and connect other rj45 to laptop to configure new wifi router?
Not sure, Jakpor. Several other viewers have asked that same question. I have not had the time to experiment with that idea. 😁
If you are trying to share mobile data with other devices using a router then you can go about it this way.
Path
Mobile(USB cable) > laptop or pc > ether net cable to router WAN port.
Connect to internet and Enable USB tethering on mobile (works on Android)
Share internet by clicking on properties in network and sharing center (windows) and checking box to allow share internet to ethernet adapter (select from drop down menu)
Voila your router will detect internet and will transmit it to other wifi devices.
Or you can get 4g compatible router and just put sim in 4g dongle and connect it to router. No need to use laptop in this case.
Hope it helps.
@@RealDaniyalAhmed tq, will try when i free.
Is the adapter powered from the phone's USB? So it will discharge the battery faster?
that's probably true Gert. In this demonstration, my point was that if you needed to connect to a hardwired network for a short time to diagnose something or access a LAN resource (not otherwise available by wifi), this could be an option.
My thought is you probably wouldn't run your phone in this matter for any length of time.
Thanks for commenting! :-)
The internet connection on the phone becomes faster like that? Or it's the same as if we had wifi on?
Could go either way.
Can i share my 5g/4g with my pc that way? I want to do this the other way around
Thank you for sharing this.
Thanks a ton. Mine was not working because the wifi was on. As soon as I switched it off, the speed sky-rocketed.❤
That's so awesome! ☺👍
Can we share mobile internet to the load balancing router sothat when our main wired broadband has lost connection. By that time our mobile internet serves as a wired network connection
so a lot of people have been asking this question. Personally, I have not sat down to try to figure that out yet.
@@NetworkAdvisor Thank you, Sir. I wish you could make such video. Which can be available as a secondary internet connection.
Can this work in oppo a3s it supports otg but no Ethernet option
Have you try ??
I'm thinking a phone charging cradle for esthetics and a POE switch to charge the phone whilst in this mode. Perhaps routed through a virtual server for some Snowdenesk security.
I too have thought it would be cool to build a phone charger from POE outlet.
could we do the opposite
give internet connection from mobile to pc throught the vary same cable ?
Have not found an easy way to do this.
hello. it is possible that instead you connect to lan port. u select and connect to wan port and select enable usb tethering for reverse internet? phone>usb_lan>wan of the router?
many folks have asked this. I suspect with enough research and some programming you could figure that out. I've not taken the time to try that.
It works with android i need to connect my game directly to router wifi cant handle the lag?
but I still can't get to the ethernet settings. It's weird pixel don't have this but many others do.
thnks bro
Sir rj45 usb gives Router to Mobile Internet. My Question Is
Can we share Mobile Data through Rj45 to Router like Usb Theathering? Its Possible Plz ans Me
this question has been asked a few times already. And, it's a great question. the short answer from me is "I don't know and I've not tried". It would be great if you could use the USB-Ethernet as a way to share the phone as a modem.
Will someone please solve this!
How about doing it the other way. Sharing your mobile internet to router.
Does that work out?
That is what I looking for, share of internet from phone to router via cable.
What I'd like to know is can I connect my phone to my wireless router and use my phone internet to supply the wireless router with whole home internet?
Yes, I've been doing this since January. Preferably, you'll need an unlocked phone for continuous tethering, because carriers put data caps on tethering, and a VPN so the carrier can't track your IP address. I purchased an unlocked phone from Best Buy for 80 bucks and the best and easiest VPN to use is VyprVpn because it's easy to download and configure on the router.I haven't been able to use an Ethernet cable, but a USB cable works just fine.
The last thing you'll need is a router that allows opensource VPN client software. The router I chose is the Asus RT-AC66U because Asus routers are one of the few and cheapest that allow vpn client software configuration. The total cost for me was under $300 for everything, but I was able to get rid of my Spectrum internet bill that was $70/month and I'm able to tether around 80 gigabytes of data from my phone per month doing this set up. I googled "how to tether smartphone to router" and found out how to set everything up perfectly. I wish you the best of luck and hope you're able to get rid of a monthly bill just like me.😀😀😀
@@boxtja1442 But aren't you billed by your phone carrier for the 80gb of data per month even though you're using a VPN?
Nope, I have the unlimited plan. $50 a month.
Box Tja what company do u use bro verizon?
@@boxtja1442 can you give link of site or vid.. also do I need router with usb port ?
I want to use mobile data to use on playstation both connected to cat 5 cable, will it work
It won’t work. Not easily anyway.

It's possible to connect smartphone with notebook over this port ?
Can you do this with a desk phone ?
Vai onno kono syestem a ki wifi router theke mobil a ki tar diye connect dawa jay

and how do we get power at the same time?
wireless charger
you might be able to plug a usb hub into the phone, with the adapter in one port and the charger in the other. I'm not sure if this will work but that will at least allow both to be plugged into the phone at the same time.
Would ethernet cable connection expose your phone to malechious activities? If it is your home pasword protected wifi, are ou as safe as you can be with the normal wireless connection?
I think what you might be asking is could the phone be used as a vulnerable gateway to access your local area network period I'm not 100% positive but I'm pretty sure that's not the case
can you add other brands of ethernet adapters (cheaper ones) that also works for android devices
Jae, that was a TrendNet which is a cheaper model (here in the US). :-)

what is the speed difference between wifi and Lan? thanks
There was a time when I would have said that a LAN is faster, hands-down. But today, especially with WIFI 6 (802.11ax), that’s answer is becoming blurry. If you have older Wifi (802.11B,A,G,N) then I would say and 100/1000Mbps LAN connection is faster. One thing about LAN (also known as wired Ethernet), is it tends to do better for large file transfers. Some IT pros also regard LAN as being more reliable.
Back to your original question about raw speed difference? Comparing a 1 gig Ethernet wired connection against a 802.11n, I would guess than LAN connection is 2x as fast.
awesome of router with lan usb adapter connection
Many have brought that up too. Nit sure how easy that would be.
What brand?
The phone is a google pixel 2 and the Network card is a Trendnet. 😄
Does it also charges the phone this way?
In this example it does not. :-)
Can you use it the other way around? So use your phone as a Hotspot and connect it to a device via ethernet cable?
yeah it's called usb tethering. i used to share my phone's mobile data to my laptop through usb
@@Kagamiya but only in usb or it is possible in ethernet?
I wonder if you can also charge the phone with PoE? Have you tested that?
i have not tested that. Would be super convenient though right? One issue I can think of is that POE is 48V and typical cell phones charge on 12v (car adapter) or 5v (USB). However, I'm sure someone has thought of this. I should take a look around and see if someone has come up with that.😀
You can use some hubs to charge and use ethernet. Compatibility is the issue I'm currently having though.
Does this needs pc
Does it work to share internet to smart tv using ethernet tethering from phone ?
That might work if your smart TV has an Ethernet power. 🤷♂️
Neat, only just occurred to me that this could be possible!
Does it work with oppo phone

Excellent
Are you know from Android share network to router zte
What I wanna know can I use my mobile hotspot on my phone as the source of internet and connect it so another device like for example another phone or even a ps4?
So many viewers have this same inclination. What would actually be much easier is to get a used cradlepoint rtr which has the “wiPipe” feature. Then you could feed the router from your phones hotspot. Only downside might be the double NAT. but that probably wouldn’t affect most internet type use.
@@NetworkAdvisor Thank you for the input! I'll keep that in mind!
and how charge our phone ?
Is there any way we can connect a device using our phone as the modem?
you can use usb tethering into asus rt-ac68u router
