Your management company need to resolve this urgent. He is obviously living in the common area . You must get all the other residents together and confront the management and maybe confront him with a group of you .

    • @elenhin

Exactly! Someone is living for free in the common areas of their house, it's their responsibility to deal with it! Get the other people he has annoyed together and go to management.

Good start: Try to group up with other residents and confront the Management together. If that fails, you can confront the troublesome person together. Maybe contact the "friend on the 7th floor" too.

I very much agree its your management company at fault for allowing someone to squatt there they have basically moved in like a homeless person. Apparently those areas should be locked also its only a common area to those who live there!

I imagine how much you must be suffering with this problem. It's really a big stress. Last year I had a serious problem with the neighbor in the apartment on the floor below mine and it was very stressful... but luckily he moved out. I think you should contact other residents and together demand a solution from the management company. This is a problem that doesn't just affect you. I think that if a group demands action, it will be easier for the problem to be resolved. The pressure will be greater and the stress will not be yours alone. I'm sorry to see you go through such a difficult situation. Take care... Even though I'm so far away, I care. Stay safe.🩵🌸

you don't need to apologize for making this video, as you are sharing with us your experience. Also, he shouldn't have shouted at you for something that isn't your fault and you've tried to help him too. That's a tough situation. Since you already tried contacting the authorities, perhaps try to speak with your neighbours and ask whether they have an issue with it? I think that when multiple people complain about the same issue, authorities and the management company will be more likely to take the issue seriously and resolve it. Wish you the best and let us know how it goes! :)

I’m so sorry to hear this, Yuu! 😔Unfortunately I’m not familiar with Japanese law, but if the resident (you) files an official complaint with the management company and like you predicted “nothing happens” in Europe they would be legally liable. I would try to let them know in writing (so you have proof of this) that you and many other residents are currently unable to use the common areas due to this person and ask for their help in removing him/banning him from the premises.

I understand this feeling very well..the situation seems very unnecessary... Like why am I suffering I have nothing to do with it ..and then we move away because we know this can't be solved unless u go beyond your comfort zone ...and why would I go out of my comfort zone when I had nothing to do with this mess on the first place..it is very frustrating and unfortunate...but when we move out of the situation..it feels good..❤I hope u find a better apartment 💖 and that person bothering u face a person who would dominate him😊

Yuu San- I respect you for assessing the situation and politely confronting this person. For your and the other neighbors safety, you should ALL contact the building management and ask them to remove this person. If they do nothing contact the police- there should be security footage of him there at all hours.
I hope this issue is resolved soon because you have a beautiful home/ studio- be safe & well

Yuu, we're here to support you through thick and thin, we love to see you happy but we're also happy to know you feel comfortable with us enough to share even worse parts of your life, so you don't have to feel sorry 💚 This said, the situation is almost unbelievable, it's more than clear this person is squatting in the common area of the building which is absurd since you pay an expensive rent so you should receive very good services. It's incredible that the police are doing nothing about that, in Italy this behaviour is a literal crime and you can end up in jail, how can they stay with their hands folded? I'm so sorry for what you're experiencing and I'm sad there's nothing we can do to help you 😔

You've already gotten so much good advice here. I can't add anything more to that. What I think is important: document the situation. Evidence is always helpful, so it's not his word against your word (maybe other residents can help with evidence, too). Actually the management/landlord has to handle the situation as you describe it (this person wasn't there just once and was disruptive). So I just want to say that: you can always talk to us (figuratively). You don't always have to smile - and in this situation your anger is so justified. We will support you even from afar. We can indeed only give you advice and encourage you. But we'll do our best to help and cheer you up! Gambatte!

I’m sorry you’re not feeling comfortable and safe in your apartment building. It’s a shame people react poorly to questions/requests. I wish you didn’t feel like you have to move as your apartment is such a nice, clean and well-maintained area where there’s room for work, relaxation and your cats. On the other hand, if you can’t use the common area without feeling anxious or frustrated and trash management is also to be desired for, then maybe it is better to find a new, safe spot for you and your kitties. I wish you much wisdom in your decision making process and hope you will continue to give us updates about your life.

I feel sorry for you, having these kind of situations in your own living/working place must be very hard. Yes, you are absolutely right some young people or any person whatever age, can be a right nuisance because of the general attitude of our times, too egocentric behaviour which brings them to self entitlement with no consideration or emphaty for others. You were really brave to confront them and also wise to consider moving out. If all of the residents and the property manager cannot do something about, the best thing is to leave. Sometime battles are won by you when you lose them. Love from Italy ❤

Yes, there's something else going on with that guy. Don't move. All of the tenants must get together and demand that the manager do something like get that man out. It's obviously not safe for anyone. If you have to move then you should sue the manager for expenses and rent. Review your lease. And contact an attorney. I have a similar situation where I live in the US. Most of all, don't approach that guy especially since he became aggressive.

Your management company needs to stand up for the residents who pay to live there. The residents should have full access to the amenities of the building and not have to deal with non-residents who are effectively squatters and costing the management more for clean-up and building maintenance because of those non-residents. A resident’s guest is one thing but a person who has no connection to a rent-paying resident is simply trespassing.

I’m sorry to hear of these difficulties. Your home should be a safe space to relax, not a cause of stress. The management must seriously look into this. Residents pay for their apartment and have the right to have a comfortable living space be it in their homes or at the common areas. Where I lived, we have a government app to report on nuisance, pollution, littering and other petty crimes. I hoped your management can resolve the case or maybe one of the residents can raise a petition to bring up to the management. Cheers up, Yuu! 🌸

    Hello Yuu!
You’re definitely not alone in this situation and don’t worry about making positive content for videos every time because you’re human. It’s the same even here in the U.S. I can relate to this so much. I moved into my apartment almost a year ago. I signed a lease with a terrible management. Found out that there were some questionable neighbors around me who harass others which they did not disclose prior to me signing the lease. So basically they trapped me lol. They also broke my door before I moved in while attempting to install a lock. They are not doing anything about it because it would cost them money and so I had to deal with them not taking responsibility for their incompetence. Considering moving because my mental health is a priority. A place where I don’t feel safe or where my rights are being violated is not a place to live.

  • @donnaleecy3739
    @donnaleecy3739 2 місяці тому +3

This is unfair on you and all other tenants of the building because essentially, he is living there for free. If you go to the building manager, or landlord or who ever is in charge of receiving the rent, im sure they wouldn't be happy about that. Even though it's a common area, police won't do anything because it's private property (at least they don't here) they will just leave it as its not their problem. I would go to who ever owns the building, tell them someone living in communal area for free so they are losing money. And in the process they may lose tenants because of their behaviour. Also get your neighbours to say the same. Hope this issue gets resolved for you 🙏

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this! This is also a common occurrence with my apartment building. I currently live in the city area of Chicago, and unfortunately the city has a lot of homeless people or people that often cause trouble that will enter apartment complexes and cause disturbances like living in the common area or disturbing the neighbors.. it’s very distressing and makes living here very challenging some times. One more idea if things don't go better and house management and police do nothing:
Go to a lawyer and ask him to force house management or police to help you.
This costs you some hundred dollars, but can be cheaper than to change the appartment.

So sorry to hear you are so troubled about this situation 😢. I hope that management will do something about it. There should be a time limit to the time a non resident can spend "waiting for a friend that does live there" and management should look up so that it's respected. Also maybe other residents just as bothered should also complain so management does realise it is a serious problem.

If all else fails, I sometimes see TV reports about an abusive neighbor who verbally harasses others, vandalizes other's property, or intentionally plays music very loud. This publicity sometimes creates pressure on the police or town hall officials to address the situation. I think it is important to collect video evidence to show the TV station.

I'd go to the local police station, explain the situation, and ask them what the best course of action is. Make sure to stress that the management hasn't done anything about the problem and that you and the other residents feel upset and unsafe. I'm sure they should know what your rights are and should be able to help.
I hope the problem will be fixed soon. Good luck.

I Hope you find a successful solution to your problem, Yuu. Social conditions are deteriorating all over the World, and especially in Large Chaotic City Centres where there is heightened anxiety, and poverty growing. Perhaps you should try and move to an area where there are more "like-minded" and creative people like yourself, a little further out of the city? Wish you well and that you find a peaceful way forward.

Ugh! Poor you Yuu. I completely understand your frustration and empathise as I am in a similar situation in my flat. Since our new management company took over in 2016 things have gone downhill. I've never met more unethical people. They just don't care and so that attracts anti-social behaviour from people who are inclined that way. The annual service charges are near 3K British pounds. I too for the first time in 4 decades of living in London am thinking of selling up and moving further North where I have more family. It would be gut wrenching as that would take me away from my children but I just need to have a life of peace!! Leasehold law in the UK is archaic and needs major reform. There is so much apartment living now. It only works in the favour of greedy landlords and crooked managing agents.
Let's take deep breaths. At least three.
    😫

We had a similar situation in India. We’re an Australian family of 5 that moved to Kolkata for work. We moved to an apartment complex where we thought we’d found a special place to live. It was our “hell on earth” moment. For 11 months we endured an absolutely horrendous experience from our upstairs neighbours…..ie jack hammering at 10pm, and general construction from 6am-11pm and later. We then had our door bells stolen, keys broken off in our lock and pieces stolen. Management did absolutely NOTHING. Then we experienced a 4 day Hindu wedding where the noise was off the scale and had to move out to a nearby hotel. As my husband lived away most of the time (pilot), I was then concerned about the safety of my 3 boys……so we were forced to move. We got no support, we were ostracised and felt not welcome at all.

I think you are right to be resentful of the situation. How is this person actually allowed in the common area. Aren’t there locks to the building? Since the rent is so high maybe now (since it is spring/summer) it is time to find a new place with maybe less people living in a building. And if you do go looking make sure to visit the new building at night to see what the nightlife is like there. I AM SO SORRY YOU ARE GOING THROUGH THIS TOUGH TIME!!

Thank you for sharing with us. I have no idea how to help from so far away, but I hear you and think I would be very uncomfortable too if I were in your situation. I think it was brave for you to confront the individual who is disturbing the peace. If you guys have apartment management, can they do anything about the problem?

Yuu, I am so sorry you are experiencing this situation. I know how it feels when you do not feel comfortable or even safe with your living situation. It creates anxiety, agitation, and depression. Please continue to pressure the management company to take action. Encourage the Chinese residents to do so as well. Find out who the actual owner is and contact them directly. In the United States there have been times when employees of a property management company simply want to collect the rent, do as little as possible and be paid a full salary. Many times they will not take action and will not be honest with the actual owners regarding problems. Please do not apologize for being honest about your feelings and your home. We are here to listen and to support you.

This is a common problem in any house with many flats in my country as well, especially if the flats are occupied by tenants. Usually they don't care about other inhabitants and live like they are alone in the building. Landlords and authorities don't care as well, and the only solution is a single-family detached home with kind neighbours or far from other humans. :)

Yuu you are to us family continue to share your situations it tends to ease the tension. Your management company should evict the offender perhaps if all the residents protested they would see the huge loss of revenue if people moved away. I can understand your need for a location that feels right for a studio such details make a difference to us as photographers but peace of mind and a tranquil spirit inspire creativity. Peace Yùu✌🇬🇧❤

This is what happens when you have a lot of foreigners in your building. I’ve seen many videos of them behaving badly in Japan, disrespecting the culture.
You have a right to feel this way. I didn’t like apartment living because of things like this. I haven’t lived in an apartment in over 30 years. I’ve bought 3 houses and I’ll never live in apartments again!

It’s regrettable, but sometimes it takes more effort than it should to get people to just do their job. I’m thinking when the management found you and a large group of your fellow residents camped in their office until the squatter is removed, the squatter would get removed. All the best with this!

I recommend reviewing your leasing agreement and by-laws to determine if there are any stipulations regarding the common area. The individual in question may be experiencing homelessness or grappling with mental health challenges. Exercise caution in addressing this situation. I am not familiar with the specific laws about trespassing in Tokyo. In the United States, we typically notify our leasing management, and they handle such matters promptly. Given that $7000 is a substantial investment, it's essential that you feel secure in utilizing the common areas of your exquisite apartment. Take care. Stay safe.😊

I am really sorry that you are faced with such a situation. I hope that everything will get better very quickly. I think that you are within your rights. It is legitimate that you can want to live in complete peace and security and that you can have your rights respected. For me, the apartment must remain a cocoon, a haven of peace so if you feel that this bubble of well-being is broken, it is better to seek your peace elsewhere.🥰🇲🇫

Yuu I'm sorry you're going through that. If management won't do anything then its probably best you leave. Maybe you could start a fundraiser for your move if you dont have it or just enough to knock make it too hard on you.
Don't apology to that DUSTY. In addition, don't confront him anymore it could be dangerous. Moving may be your best bet, and kudos for speaking out. That was cool.

Oh Yuu I'm so sorry to hear you are having a terrible experience in your apartment building. Management really should step in and get rid of the person. Maybe take photos at various times of day and night and send to management? Show them what you and the other tenants are having to deal with. This situation is not good for your mental, emotional and physical health. We are all here and happy to listen to you vent. We all need someone to talk to. 幸運をお祈りしています

Write a letter to the agency who gave you the apartment and to the building owner. Tell them he is living there without paying. Have no shame. Don’t confront him directly. Deal with it another way. You pay, you stay. He leaves. Be confident.

It can be frustrating when others are disrespectful to residential surroundings and amenities. You should never be prison to your own home. However, I would tactfully ask the troublemaker on day one then wait and ask again if he returns on the next day if he is still there. Maybe he will have some shame by you simply asking about what he’s up to. Approaching with accusation is never liked by anyone one person. For example, start with, “I noticed you have been here for a few hours, did something happen?”, “do you need me you help you contact management?” Keep asking him these type of questions and he will eventually state the true situation, then you say something like, “oh, you’re still here, I heard they will be cracking down on those loitering around who don’t live here.” You know the situation best, a better line could be better but you get the idea. Good luck!

That's terrible.. non residents should not be allowed to enter the premise without the company of a resident... I mean if they are visiting a friend, they should stay in that person's flat, not in the common area where residents come to relax, work... or even come for a change of scenery. It's sad that you are thinking of moving from a place you like due to this reason. I hope this situation improves and you get to live here for a long time to come!

This is a terrible and very uncomfortable situation for you Yuu, and for other residents. When you rent a , very expensive, apartment, you have the right to live there safely and comfortably.
There are a few things I advise you to do.
To avoid any dangerous consequences for you, I would not confront him personally again.
Write an official complaint/demand to the management, demand the front door to be locked securely only to be unlocked by residents. Demand this homeless person to be removed. Set a time limit for them to do this. If they do not, make sure to let them know they will be paying for your moving costs as they are leaving you with an unsafe environment.
I don’t know renters laws in Japan but if the management does not respond and get rid of this person, stop paying rent until they do.
I would also call the police and tell them that you are being threatened by this homeless person that moved in to your building illegally.
Do not confront him alone though, leave it to the authorities.
Good luck, don’t let this person dull your sparkle, you are a great person.
