Reliability is the key word. My 18' 450 fx has over 265 hours on it. I race, ride tracks and do single-track with it. I did the top end, crank bearings and oil pump when I got a leak in my countershaft bearing. So I had to split the case. Made sense to do it then. It didn't need it. I just did it. My valves still don't need to be re-shimmed. My 24' 450FX should be arriving any day..... These bikes do everything really well.
Good review. Nice to hear someone give their opinion with years of experience on this bike. Like watching your riding and racing action. Looking forward to 2024 action.
I’ve been putting large open cell aquarium foam in the two intake horns. Keeps the leaves and twigs off the filter. NHH races a layer over the filter. Half race pop the lid pull the top layer, semi clean filter to finish the race.
Nice Bike! I have been comparing these to the crf250rx and your videos persuaded me to try the yz250fx. Hopefully my dealer will have another come in soon. Thanks for the Videos!
207hrs on 2018 450fx valves still in spec. May need top end cuz I might be burning oil. But great bike!. Love that wide ratio Trans on tech single track. This is the next bike for my 15yr old son! Oh btw invest in radiator braces and skid plate.
I’ve always rode a yz250 two stroke setup for woods. Love it. Been thinking about a 250fx as a second bike but worried it won’t have enough power compared to the two stroke.
Make sure the motor is warmed up to at least 140 degrees. Put in 1st gear and keep the clutch pulled in. Don't let the lever out and it should fire fast. Don't give it any throttle while trying to start it either.
Great review and good info camptain 👌 I'm personally interested in getting one of those two. In my area there is a 2022 as well as 2018 (cheaper obviously) for sale. Since you had both, do you have comments on the difference in model years? Is it worth to go for newer bike or didnt they change much in your opinion?
Beautiful bike. Kinda sad you sold it but the Husky vids are a good comparison. I love the planted feel but dislike the weight that comes with the planted feel.
do these still apply for the 2024 models and possibly the 2025? ive mostly owned honda never ridden a yamaha. my first mx bike was a rmz250 2009 and before that I had crf150f 2008 and a crf110f 2023 that i just bought.
I have a 22 fx and about 50hrs. I was a moron and played with the tuner app too much and cannot seem to get the motor back into the stock set up. Any advice on where to find those numbers?
Sweet bike man. I am looking to purchase a 2024 FX. What rear brake light is that?? Did Enduro Engineering do the install? I want to install a rear light on mine and having difficulty finding kits for the YZ250X.
Mines been great a 2017 250fx probably around 200 hours by now around 100 blew rod bearing had to do top end too but still ther then that been great also now leaking coolant out of weeping hole
I used to ride xr600r Hondas years ago. My son just got a Yamaha yz250f . I’d like to start riding again- I weigh 255lbs 6’2”. We’d be doing trails and some track riding. This seems like a good bike for me. Do you think my weight/ size would be an issue? Thanks for the video! Just subscribed 👍
Thanks for watching! This bike would be perfect for you. As with any bike you get it’s going to have to be resprung for your weight, it will have plenty of power. Doesn’t matter if you get a 250, 450 or 300 they’re all made for a 170-180 pound rider so they must be resprung.
@@Captain250FX Thanks. I'm considering a pure woods bike. I like the FX but have also looked at the yz250x. But I'm not familiar with riding 2 strokes. Your review of the fx has greatly swayed me that way.

Plenty of power. It’s all on the bottom and mid.

bad ass video! my friend crying bryan said he wants one of these when he grows up.
Tell him don't ever grow up, it sucks lol 😆
Is that like saying my Honda Accord just hit 500K miles baby?
Good stuff, if I ever sell my sxs id have to go with a 2 stroke then I’ll have to catch up with you to ride in Michigan since I live in Ludington

Since you had both, do you have comments on the difference in model years? Is it worth to go for newer bike or didnt they change much in your opinion?
Depending on what you want. The 18 is more torque and trail friendly and the 22 is more for racing IMO.
Beautiful bike. Kinda sad you sold it but the Husky vids are a good comparison. I love the planted feel but dislike the weight that comes with the planted feel.
Very nice review!.. I see you removed the head light.. Did you have any issues with it?

Siccas makes the kit. If you can hold off get the 2025 FX. It will ha s all the changes the 450 got.

What is the main difference between this and the wr250f (aside from the headlight)?
A lot. Mapping is way more aggressive, suspension is stiffer. Those are the two biggest differences.

What would you consider intermediate to expert bikes?
A 300 2-stroke or a 450.
What brand for the barkbusters?
Tusk Brand.
How often are you checking valves? Also how often do you service suspension oils?
Suspension oils once a season. Valves haven’t needed adjustment yet.

I read a lot about transmission issues on the 250/450f's. Are you familiar or know anyone with trans problems?
I've never heard of that problem, whats years are affected?
@@Captain250FX most years it seems like, most recently 18-24. Something with the shift fork.

Sicass
Have you changed wheel bearings yet?
No, still good at 140 hrs on mine.
I agree with you on 1st gear, I swapped a WR trans in my old YZ and love the low 1st.
Right on!
Yo saw u on the road in your Tacoma we also passed you
😃
So no rebuild in those 140 hours?
No, easily can go 200 before the need.
Do you put grease on your air filter base?
No I bought the No-Toil filter and cage and it seals great, no need for grease.
@@Captain250FX I will have to get that. I’m tired of cleaning and applying grease.
Any timing/cam chain issues?
Nope, I think that's a myth. Almost 300 hrs on my last FX and 140 on this one and not one issue.
