Not blind, but this is definitely the best video I found outlining what you can and can't do without 5-10 minutes of personal backstory beforehand. Thanks for the great content!
And why did he not address that? I thought he was using it as a teachable moment and he was going to show us some nifty way to go back to that and change it to the correct spelling but he just lost over.
Fantastic video! The first of yours I've found and I'm looking forward to more. Wish I'd found you back when I had sudden onset emergency glaucoma surgery, and especially afterwards as I developed early onset and rapid cataracts. Cataract surgery was supposed to be "emergency" but took months, then months between eyes, with no prescription lenses in between. It was a frustrating and difficult time, frightening too, and your info would have been helpful (the doctors never gave me any low vision tips or suggestions, I was just left to figure it out for myself while unable to drive anymore, tripping on things, hoping to not lose my job, and so on)
Just found this video because I have been trying to find a way to get to the ‘next line’ when using voice dictation for months now and your video is the only thing that has properly demonstrated and told me how to do so; thank you immensely for knowing what you are doing, then sharing it appropriately! When the Geniuses(?) at Apple do not know how to properly use voice dictation, it does not give me much hope. Like many others who have come across your UA-cam page, I am not blind, but visually impaired at times due to MS. In addition to visual issues, the use of my hands is not an option at most times, so the need for voice dictation is imperative. I know this would not be covered in this video, but if you know how to recover accidentally deleted text messages without having to utilize a backup, would you be so kind as to either direct me to your video, a video you know of and like or something similar? Thank you kindly in advance! Kari
I was here for the emojis but the ones you are referring to are emoticons. Either way, I learned about the no space thing so I like the video! Thanks :)
Sam, Your last video changed my life forever!! Lol But seriously, when I first became visually impaired I struggled with dictation and text to speech. I had to teach myself by commenting on UA-cam a lot. And I got a whole lot better over time. But there was still a lot I did not know yet and your last video enlighten me. The one thing I cannot stand being visually impaired is emojis. When you can't read the comments and you have to listen to text to speech it could drive you insane. I have noticed a lot of people overuse emojis. And you will be listening and all you hear is a million emojis. So as nice as it is to be able to do Emojis through speech it does not bother me that all of them are not in use yet. I think I can live without emojis LOL Once again, great video Sam and I am so happy you decided to do these videos. It's amazing how many people probably do not know about dictation. I am one of those people so thank you so much for teaching me. And have a great Christmas and New Year.
Hello, I am looking for a way to "stop" the hashtag. Yes, dictating "hashtag" will show the hashtag followed by words that are joined. How do you stop the joining of the words and get back to words that are not supposed to be part of the hashtag? Thanks
Is there a way to dictate a title of those title on give the title name and say title off so that the punctuation the capitalization is done correctly?
Thanks for your videos. They are helpful. One thing, you keep demonstrating everything on an iPad. You say it works the same for Android. Many things don't. You could make a new video working with an Android tablet and you'll see what I mean. Thanks again.
Yes, I agree with you that mini dictation commands might work on one but don’t work on the other. However, I tend to use my 12 inch iPad Pro for these videos because it’s nice and large and is easier to video. I also try to mainly feature things that will work on both platforms.
You do a wonderful job I have a question? The question is can you use a screen reader with voiceover for example Pinterest is not very accessible is there anything I can download to help it be more accessible? Thank you.
I don’t know of any other screen readers available on iOS devices, iPhone, iPad etc. There are a few options on android though. However, a general rule is that if an app doesn’t work well with one screen reader, it’s probably not going to work well with any others.
My phone types the punctuation word rather than using the punctuation I want. I'm trying to find out how to get my Messenger on my Galaxy a21 to put in the correct punctuation mark rather than the word. I can't seem to find that answer any where does it mean I need to get a new phone cuz my messenger is not working properly?
Question, I need to know how to get this to work in meetings when other Voices are being spoken? It does not seam to recognize any other voices other than mine? I wish the Voice Memo app could work. What do you suggest?
Hey Sam great video as always! ☺️ Unfortunately, most of it does not work with my Android phone. The new paragraph Works but not the capitalizing or using no spaces. What does work our emojis! Try it out on your Samsung. The poop emoji works there and so does the crying face one and even rolling on the floor laughing one. Just remember to say emoji after. ☺️
Yeah I tried getting the capitals to work I couldn't. But eventually everything will work as a technology is changing so fast. I hope your Christmas tree is still looking perfect and I hope your kid is getting so excited and counting down the days. I know my daughter is every morning did Santa come? LOL
@@myvisuallyimpairedlife5674 yes, Google and apple are always competing so hopefully they'll figure it out. Our tree is kind of looking a little bit sad because somebody keeps taking ornaments off. Hahaha! We don't do Santa. Want to give credit where credit is due. Lol ☺️ Hope your daughter is just as excited as my son!
Yeah, I swear the capitalization worked once while I was testing it but haven’t been able to get it to work since then. Apparently it was just a fluke. That is pretty cool that the emoji’s work though!
I can't get the link to the dictation commands to work. It dumps me in your general blog, and searching either *dictation* or *command* doesn't help. Thanks
Very nice video and helpful link to 60+ commands. This is all fine and dandy for iOS but none of it works on Android, so I would suggest just editing your title to remove the word "Android". Even the iPad demonstration is unrelated to Android, so why mention Android in the title? The following list are the only commands that SOMETIMES work on Android, that I am aware of. Period = period (.) percent sign = % dot dot dot = an ellipsis (...) Comma = comma (,) Question mark = question mark (?) Exclamation or exclamation point = exclamation point (!) Apostrophe = apostrophe (‘) Enter or new line = moves to a new line, but only if you speak a period first. New paragraph = new paragraph, , but usually only if you speak a period first. Colon = colon (:) Dash = dash (-) Ellipsis or dot dot dot = ellipsis (…) Ampersand = ampersand (&) Asterisk = asterisk (*) At sign = at sign (@) quote = quotation marks unquote = quotation marks
So, in the video I demonstrate punctuation, adding or omitting a space, and emojis, And I go into pretty good detail on those topics. Out of all of those, Android won’t do the spaces and some of the punctuation I mentioned. Even though android does all the other stuff, you think I should change the title because, in your opinion, the video has nothing to do with android? I appreciate your opinion but I am going to have to disagree with you.
You can change the voices in the VoiceOver settings. Just look in the settings for the speech section. There are several voices available, both men and women.
Thank you - I'm on a Samsung S10E. I know how to voice to text, but I keep getting {period} or {comma}, when I'm saying period or comma, instead of the actual punctuation. Not sure why. This is a replacement phone, never did it before. do you know how to fix that? Thank you.
I am on the Samsung galaxy S 10+ and don’t seem to have that problem. Could just be a coworker of your phone. Definitely make sure you have all the apps fully up-to-date. You can check in the play store to make sure they have been updated.
That’s just an automatic feature of voiceover. You don’t have to change any of the settings for it to work. As long as voiceover is turned on, you to finger double tap to activate dictation while the keyboard is up. Also I should mention that this is only on iOS devices, iPhone, iPad, etc.
Or what is the difference between the two?Hello! I like to ask you? And I'm using the punctuations by voice. But space I wanted to ask you is the android? As good is iOS?? Are they basically the same with voice over?
Yes, I would agree with live accessible, when it comes to dictation and screen reading, iOS is much better than android. Android is getting better with each version released but iOS is just easier to use.
Is there a two finger double tap dictation shortcut That's been added to Android since the Android 10 update? Very handy iOS feature that I really wish was on Android.

Just an FYI the word for * is ‘asterisk’ which a lot of people pronounce ‘asterick’ …probably why it didn’t get dictated properly

do you have to add a space when dictating or is it automatic?
What time will I find out the actual punctuation sometimes leave a gap between the last word of the actual punctuation which is not great
