    2010 Corolla Ignition lock bolt housing on my bench has this design. Great video. These locks do not fail ( unlike the design used mostly from 1991-2001, which were legion for failure ) other than from vandalism... If you need a new one, get NEW from a locksmith or TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, and have REKEYED by a locksmith, and no programming or multiple sets of keys. Also, this is a corrected design, the lock should only need service if someone mucked it up. There are issues with certain aftermarket locks that make them non-serviceable for key matchup.

      Excellent point! Thanks for watching. We actually found out after the change that all that it needed was lube inside the ignition assembly housing (not the ignition assembly itself) it seems to have been a lack of it in the first place. But still glad I was able to help those learn to get it out.

      @@admechanicduo2080 The one I serviced only failed because the lock, both the cylinder and the housing were all gummed up... likely had a combination of graphite oil and WD40, making everything all gummy. Factory lube was very thick. I actually had to take all the innards out of the housing, decrud them, then reassemble. Timing of the geared inner components was a bear. There is a narrow spline to line up to get it right. But you CAN assemble it wrong. Good design would make assembly idiot-proof, but they never considered I would be working on it later.
      Earlier Toyota lock cylinder design had 8 wafers, and they would bind up in two of the wafer (tumbler) positions. This failure was for the same reason HONDA 2002 and newer locks all jam up.

    This lock cylinder removal procedure worked perfectly on a 2018 RAV4. I was only finding information on much older RAV4s. I expect this procedure is the same for 2013-2019 RAV4s as I believe they use the same, or very similar, ignition cylinder.

    Hello
    Thanks for this nice video.
    I have Toyota avensis 2003, I try to check if my key is (G) or (H) chip, but what is written on the key is "Valeo" how to know if the "transponder program box" fit my car or not.

    That screw on the right side of the lock cylinder housing is hard to unscrew. What size screw driver did you use. I don’t want to strip it. Did you use a 90 degree ratchet with screw head? Also is it counterclockwise to remove it?

      If I recall it was a regular Philips head tip but I had it on a 10 mm wrench since the space was really tight. And it was regular “lefty loosey” so counter clockwise. Sorry for the late reply. I’m sure you got it figured out by now but I hope it helps with those that have the same questions.

      Not if you have the stripped down base model that doesnt have a chip type key for security.

    can I still do this procedure without the original key? and where can I buy this transponder program? I didn't find it on amazon

      Here’s the link. Sorry for not adding it in the description. And without the key it’s kind of hard. At that point your best bet is to 1)let a locksmith do it or 2) lock pick it to get it to accessory mode(if you got lock picking skills) or 3) technically (and in my opinion) drill out the lock assembly and essentially destroying it. You should be able to turn it with a screwdriver after that. Which is okay since you don’t plan to reuse it anyways. Of course you don’t want to drill all the way to the back where the housing is but at the same time that’s hard to do. I only recommend this if you have no other options. Here’s the link below for the transponder.

    How did you program the second key?

    • @royrhodes1986
      @royrhodes1986 Рік тому

      Okay, scratch that question. What if the original cylinder was broken with a screw driver so you aren’t able to put the original key in the cylinder to do the steps needed for programming?
