    Love the video! The reason water conservation is important is because the cycle takes time to replenish water sources. We are basically consuming water faster than the Earth can recycle it. And once all/most of the water in an area is consumed, the cycle slows down even more because there
    Is nothing feeding it.

    The short answer to your question about water conservation in the American West is that it took millions of years for the ground water to collect in those underground reservoirs and humans are using the stored water much faster than it can be naturally replenished by the water cycle.

      This is true. Some cities are experiencing ground subsidence due to lower water quantities in the bedrock pore space. Mexico City is an alarming example.
