My Final Thoughts on the Illinois MCS Program

I have completed my goal of getting my master's in computer science from the Illinois MCS program. The Illinois MCS is one of the most popular and in-demand online CS master's degree on the market today. I will discuss what I liked and didn't like going through the program!

Helpful info, thank you. It sounds like for those without a tech background that this likely isn't an appropriate program. What program might you recommend for someone who wants to learn more about these subjects conceptually, but isn't looking to work in IT, but could have a need to understand these subjects on a more advanced level as as a mid or executive level manager?

Are the lectures given live, allowing live feedback? Or are they rather pre-recorded, whereas you just watch the lectures and ask questions to TA’s?

Hey Will many congrats!! May I know if distributed and cloud requires heavy coding which can help me improve a lot? And does MCS have courses with too many students that TA cannot handle? In addition, can online students transfer to on-campus? Thank you so much for your kind help!!

There’s a decent amount of coding in the distributed systems class. Not as much in cloud computing applications class that I recall. I thought the TAs were great at keeping up with the number of students. Not sure about transferring to on-campus - I’d ask the department that question.
