Among the more popular family acts on the '70s R&B circuit, Memphis' Sylvers recorded for Pride, MGM, Capitol, Casablanca, and Geffen during their 13-year chart run. No less than nine of the ten brothers and sisters in the family -- Olympia, Leon, Charmaine, James, Edmund, Ricky, Angie, Pat, Foster -- performed in the group that was viewed as a Southern version of the Jackson 5. Their 1972 Pride single "Fool's Paradise" got things going in the right direction, reaching number 14 on the R&B charts. They had three other Top Ten R&B hits in the '70s, but their biggest song was "Boogie Fever" in 1975. It perfectly captured the disco spirit and topped both the R&B and pop charts that year. "Hot Line" was another Top Ten on both lists in 1976, and their second biggest single. They scored another Top 20 R&B single on Casablanca in 1978, "Don't Stop, Get Off," but the charming qualities of their earlier material seemed more calculated. They couldn't recapture the spark during their mid-'80s period on Geffen.
The Sylvers deserves a star 🌟 on the Hollywood walk of fame, now is the time.
Foster had such a beautiful voice from childhood into adulthood...
I don't have any words for this masterpiece, this is the real music.
I too, Juan was speechless when I first heard this gem.
LEON IS NO JOKE ON THE BASS GUITAR !!!
Yeah ! Leon with Ricky rock that track. You get off them and there is no song.
That is Rickey
yeeeeeeeees ; ua-cam.com/video/SFmya8-oDOw/v-deo.html
I hear Leon's production STRONG in this song, a-la Shalamar, The Whispers...many more.
Stars of Sound Productions Yup......no more bubble gum "Cotton Candy" popcorn sound....pure and raw funk....The Solor Records, Leon Sylvers 3rd way!!!
@@seanlewis1148 What they should have had their whole career.
Definitely, I was just going to say the same. Especially in the last third, when the instruments are featured. That kind of complex and super tight orchestration in r and b is only found in Leon's work, as far as I know.
Indeed! Produced by Leon Sylvers - written by his wife Nidra Beard, William Shelby (both of Dynasty and prolific songwriters in their own right) and Stephen Shockley of Lakeside. Hence the Solar 'feel'.
Yes! I felt that way when I heard the Bizarre album.
The Sylvers were truly underrated, this song is a prime example of that fact...shame. Such an enjoyable song from start to finish.
dans le meme genre dynasty shalamar
One of my favorite groups Edmund was 🔥 R.I.P. Much love.🎗
Angie and Pat nailing the choreography and backing vocals in this video is the my favorite part. Ladies, you are absolutely gorgeous!
Such a great performance with only 5 of them!
Leon’s Bass skills are incomparable! They were truly one of the best bands of all times!
Even the rhythm guitar is wicked
it's a monster with his bass
Yes, they carried that same sound over to the other groups that they wrote and produced for. Shalamar and the Whispers were fabulous. Leon later formed Dynasty, they are the G O A T.
They were truly talented! 🔥
It's 2024 and these tracks are still killing it. Nothing will ever touch the Soul-R'n'B-Disco/Dance music of the 70's-80's.... This stuff was seriously good.
Pure Genius, Leon Sylvers...One of the Greatest!!!
Thank you, Beard, Shockley, Shelby and Sylvers. Your music still lives on, when music of today has clearly deteriorated beyond all hope
Love this ... shame it didn't get promoted ... such a talented family. Much love for the Sylvers.
That intro. Wow.
What a talented and beautiful family.
This is Chemistry kids..... Three great faces delivering spanking vocals, dynamite song writing by Griffey and Sylvers and no auto tune 💯💙
the sisters are absolutely beautiful !!
For sure!
I'm still crazy about Pat to this day!😘💯
Love Pat, Angie, they picked up where after Olympia, & Charmaine! ABSOLUTELY AWESOME BEAUTIFUL Background singing & dancing!
Nick Francis uhhh sorry Nick but I saw Pat first!!!
Yes, they were, but Olympia was absolutely stunning!!
Leon Sylvers was a great producer, one of my favorites
The CUT!!!!!! My JAM...🎤🎵🎼🎶🎸
This jam is toooo smooth...they had it going ON. Along with Leon's super talented writing/producing capabilities....I bet Rod Temperton(from Heatwave) could have had this group all over the Map. Two mega-writers like these guys would have propelled this amazing family into the stratosphere. Man this tune is BAAAAD!
the bass the bass the bass... there is a genius there
WOW! THIS IS A GREAT SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The intro alone sends you in another world... The production and that fabulous bassline by Leon are great and then the outstanding choreography by Angie & Pat will win you over no matter what... I'll never understand why this track and the whole LP from which it is taken from never made it to the top. This is just as good (better imho) as Shalamar, The Whispers and all the SOLAR artists
True to that
The production on the album was PERFECT!!!
Looks like they are being put in their (TOP) place in plain 2020! 👏
Like I always say. You know the song as some one born in 1971 but at the time you do not have the sense to note the name and the artist but it remains a memory ready to be awakened and.... then... you stumble across it on you tube AND THEN... YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH IT ALL OVER AGAIN
Pat is rockin' that Pocahontas look pretty good...
Yes she is and if she put it on now, she'd still look pretty.
This song stays on repeat in my IPOD!
I GOT THEM IN MY PLAYLIST TO HIGH FIVE GIRL✋
A Nice "SYLVERS"!!!! SONG ❤❤👏🌷🌷🌷
PAT LOOKS LIKE SHE'S HAVING so much fun!!!
James is wow-wow in this vid especially in the beginning...*swoon*! Cool song by a gorgeous family. .
Seriously slept on track! Everything about this cut burns, the harmony,Fosters strong lead, the musicianship of James on keyboards and Ricky on rhythm guitar and Leons bass playing and production this song should have killed the charts! Bad management Definetly killed them
WOW, this is REAL music and I'm not just saying it.
The musical instruments! You don't hear that in today's music. Even though a song of the past could've been pre-recorded, you could still differentiate whether a live instrument was played in a studio between some computerized noise.
That's beautiful. That's what a lot of music today lacks, unfortunately.
This is a REALLY great song. =)
And you know what ?? There's written on the back of this LP's : "beautiful music for beautiful people". Smartness till the end !
The Sylvers were extremely talented even as children!! Really love & appreciate there music! Blessings.....
Someone said Pat looks like Jane Kennedy and now looking at this video, Angie reminds me a little of Angela Bofil. Ricky has some cute dimples!! James is looking like Mike Epps. Man, God really blessed that family.
I have loved this song since I first heard it all those years ago! How it didn't turn out to be a MONSTER hit still boggles my mind today! Like some else here said, it was truly a "Masterpiece"!
Unmistakable Leon Sylvers III bass line and production.🤩
I hope they have a major comeback. It was so good seeing them on that show Unsung.
they were such a lovely group.i know I had their posters all over my wall!
This song is an old, lost friend finally found! I had this album back when it came out and it introduced me to the producing genius that is Leon F Sylvers, III. I bought EVERY album he touched, Shalamar, The Whispers, etc. I haven't heard this song in over 25 years and it is just a crisp and perfectly produced as I remember. Classic song that should have done MUCH better than it did!
Stumbled across these guys today, DAMN!! this song is amazing
Foster killed this song, and it's like people didn't notice!
💯 He had a bright future ahead of him, and ruined it chasing underage girls and drugs. I still love the Sylvers. This song was so underrated.
He sure did a great job with this song dead on
Sure enough!
Yes, indeed!!
Every time I hear music from the Sylvers I get a good.....correction......a great feeling. Their music is so positive, uplifting, and energetic. I immediately thing of great times.
It’s the very reason why they weren’t promoted. Their messages in songs was good ,especially for blacks.
My favorite group of all time!!!!
De la bombe. Excellent.
I just love this song. I'm just crying now. How I wish I can just put it on a loud speaker for the whole public to share on this happy song
If someone would just use it as a soundtrack for an up and coming movie about the 80's! But, then, I would be afraid for the group, the movie studio, the owners of their music( Solar is now defunct) and it's distributors of the soundtrack, because of The Sylvers former management's threats from 40 years ago.
This a really dope song that sounds good in any era. Leon Sylvers was a dope and underrated producers!
Got a Shalamar vibe, Leon killing the bass, foster singing, the ladies are lovely
Beautiful chords and arrangements on this song, that's one of the things I like about the Sylvers they can be versatile. They can cross all genres of music by simply being themselves.
Oh My GOD!!!!!!! Damm!!! this song takes me back!!! To bad that groups today can't harmonize like this. This is what singing is all about!!!!
I agree with you James, this entire album "Concept" was a killer!!
What a Classic!!! I love SOLAR! 😍😍
Definitely
I grew up listening to this wonderful group as well as the Jacksons and it's great to hear their later material. Thanks for posting.
Never gets old! Sheer class and quality!! Timeless! They deserve so much more success!
LOVE THIS JAM!!!!!!!!!
One of my Favorite Alltime Groups. Love this by them.
When everything is beautiful that makes you get in tears.
WOW, how I love this arrange, these voices, these harmonies, and synths riffs, now I love these moves and smiles...
They were so beautiful...
Agree
Best song they ever did!!!!
First time hearing this GREAT SONG!!The Sylvers were VERY talented ❤️❤️
The album is fantastic in my opinion even though it was generally overlooked and didn't sell well.. Leon reunited with his siblings taking over the reins of production. .1981 wasn't a good year for Solar artists as they were changing their distribution label. The marketing was poor shalamar and dynasty also suffered dismal record sales from poor promotional that year..
Here in 2020!! I love this beautiful, talented group. I’m glad I grew up with this music. Happy New Year,🎊
Here it is 2020 and I'm just now hearing this song for the first time! I wish I had known about "Lover Come Back" back in the day bc I definitely would've included it in a mix tape (remember those?!) for wooing that special someone to come back and give our love another try. I think of the man who unknowingly captured my heart first as a young freshman with his own huge "Sylvers fro" (back in '76). I had such a bad crush on him and he even resembled Leon a little! Fate stepped in 10 years later ... we met and became friends. He was so gorgeous and romantic ... It was great while it lasted, but it was not a forever love. I feel Foster when he sings, "... I miss you sooooooo muchhhh".
Hello 👋🏻 Cami kam 😊
@@joekris.2998 Hope you find the love you're looking for man. Keep shooting your shot, but I think you'll fare better in finding love in your town. Too many pretenders online, and in many cases now, it's not safe. Good luck!
@@AlmondJoiei do understand what you saying… nevertheless I’m not that type of man
@@joekris.2998 Wait what? Nothing against you, just saying there are bad people out there so be careful to whom you give your love.
@@AlmondJoie okay thanks…
Just picked this up at a thrift store in Arkansas yesterday. I'm smiling ear to ear.
This song is everything
Hello 👋🏻 MsCharlieBrown 😊
Where was all this gold?!! I've looked for years! I'm so happy to finally have access to these gems!
The Sylvers were underrated, they had beautiful songs as a group but others on Solar Records became their competitors.
This was one of my favorite songs!!!
2018 still sounds good.....
Oh my gosh! Thank you, God, for blessing this family with such talent! This song is phenomenal!
I just don't know how this song always bring tears in my eyes. Maybe just my young years listening to radio bop.
Encore brother used to listen to Radio Bop on AM in the western cape on Friday and Saturday nights Have a ball with Soul Brother ED Edgar Dikgoli Such memories
This brings back memories of Radio Bop for me too. Good to know others remember it too.
This was an era when people could actually sing and there was real music accompanying them

He slapped it, hunnnnnyyy 🔥🔥🔥🔥
LOVE this group! Back then and even more now! They still got and they proved it when they sung Forever Yours at the end of Unsung. They were such a beautiful looking group that could sing!
a big sylvers fan coming up glad to find this gem of a hit
Love u James...
It still boggles my mind WHY this wasn't a HUGE hit!
Brooklyn Joe it was failed
In Zimbabwe this was s massive track ... yep I know sh*thole country as Trump says but music is universal mate
AMAZING,AMAZING,AMAZING GREAT SONG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From the 50s through the 80s the Sylvers were on the musical and entertainment map! I can't believe I didn't realize how many hits they made. Every song they've written and performed are so intricate, masterfully done. I'm now an even bigger fan for sure!!💕🎼
🔥🔥🔥🔥. I went to Spotify and downloaded everything from the Sylvers.
I love the first 3 albums. Leon was a genius.
Foster looking like stony Jackson! Great track and the break/bridge is bad azz
Lol. Yessssss
Foster is handling that lead! The group sounds good. Yep this is my era! The thing about it, is that it sounds like Shalamar & Dynasty. Leon wrote for them as well.
And he wrote for the Whispers and a lot of SOLAR Records Artist.
Exactly ! This is there sound. They were so underrated.
Never heard it before. I like it. They have others I have never heard but I like.
I can never stop listening to this jam💕💕💕
Very nice! Never heard this song before. This is true talent. Dance moves were on point. Continued blessings to the Sylvers.
thank you Nancy. This is Angelia Sylvers Polk. That's me in all white. :) hehe.
such talented folks they were under represented by thier record label thats just my opinion but thank goodness for youtube god bless the sylvers and R.I.P Edmund
Very iconic and underrated
Leon Sylvers at his very best! Cool and sexy groove. Makes you wanna dance, dance, dance...
Just loved it, still lovable!! WOw!!
I have been a fan of The Sylvers for decades but..Wow!! I am totally blown away !! I This track is the BOMB !! That bassline is HOTT!! ( 3:44) The harmony is right and exact !! & the strings are so sweet.as they lace this track. It may sound funny to many but I hear "And The Beat Goes On "!! written by Leon ..The Sylvers were severely underated and that is a damn shame !! SMH!!..I Thank you UNSUNG for the real story..behind the music!!
@marellamofo Absolutely great seeing them. They were an extremely talented and good looking family. Olympia was very beautiful. It hurt to hear what happened to her and hurt more to see how her ordeal affects her family to this day. That family deserved far more shine.
Angie smile makes my day😍
Our best memory for my old best friend and myself. I'll never forget this tune in Bizerte, Tunisia in 1989, best holidays in my life.
thanks for posting this !!! I would like to see any live footage of any member of this family especially foster playing the bass. I think they never got the credit they deserved because of the lead singers had a mature voice and looked so young and that to america would nt sell at that time! But i was in heaven with this hit!! James and Ricky was da sheeeit!!
Souvenirs souvenirs....
favorite group growing up.
This is the Jam! This family was very special in music.I saw them in Cleveland 1980 along with Cameo and the Suga Hill gang.
another great single..big fan...
You are absolutely correct! I hear "And The Beat Goes On" also!
And by the way, love The Whispers!
Wow I can’t stop playing this video
This is what you call music
Give you a million gold stars ⭐️
Wish this kind off music would
Come back again
Because your feet really do tap too
This kind off music
Any way Thankyou so much
For sharing this video
Love love love
