Yes people, having the key fob is way easier. This is for people that don’t need to bring keys everywhere or for someone that love tech. You can also send this digital key to someone else to unlock your car or move it. It is very convenient especially if your out of town and your car is parked somewhere that cleans the streets and you need your car moved. 😉
Problem with this key on my iPhone 13 is that it is way to slow to unlock. It takes several seconds to respond. Also is it on a Tesla and there is no response lag. Pity really but it does need to be improved
BMW, i just got the new M2. It tells me to put the phone on the area in front of the shifter (i don't have wireless charging for some reason) to pair it. I tried to shove my phone in there but the area is too small to fit it in and it won't connect. does this have anything to do with the recent recall?
But after this is done, can I continue to use my normal key, as a master key, and keep the digital key in the iPhone as, shall we say, a reserve key (in case I have forgotten the normal key at home) ? Because all the functions I have with the normal key, I don't have it with the Digital key.

Only digital key plus does the same as key fobs. The plain digital key actually uses different technology, hence you need to place the iphon in the charging tray.
I installed a digital key in my iPhone 12 Pro wallet the described way, and everything looks good. But, I managed to unlock and lock the car only once, after several attempts. I don't have those problems with wallet payments. Somebody experiencing the same behaviour?

@bmw oddly, with my new car having set up my digital key, there is no BMW ID active when I want to drive my car with my settings. I am forced to input a pin code which is on the screen, which is very odd to do if having a passenger, my son in my case. 1) is it supposed to not have it linked with my BMW ID? 2) can I link it automatically with my BMW ID? 3) the password interface is ridiculous
@@cagatay89 Yeah, I realized that my bmw does not have the wireless charging unit, but an still frustrated by the car. It is a 2 month old car and we just had the rear camera replaced (camera malfunction error) and the car was sitting at the dealer until they replaced the camera and now am getting the same error again. Not happy at all. Not worth the headache

@@deansmith4697 is right. It’s very convenient. I had this issue where I kept opening the trunk from my 330e when I had the key fob in my pocket. I don’t have to worry about it now though with digital key.

@@tung9110 I understand BMW is not granting this feature to their vehicles made prior to July 2020. However, the technology is always there inside the vehicle, my model, that is. It’s simply NFC. It works with Samsung phones currently. It just does not work with any other Android brand phone or with iPhone. This suggests to me that BMW has simply decided not to allow this feature with these other phones. This has been the way BMW has operated in other areas of technology. They initially never allowed Android Auto in their vehicles. They would only allow Apple CarPlay. But many customers complained do now, suddenly, this has been allowed, simply through an over the air update. There was no true “incompatibility” to worry about. They just allowed it. I believe BMW can allow this feature as well in other recent vehicles with NFC capability. And they really need to do so or they will continue to risk losing customers.

You have to “go get” your key - but I always have my phone on me or near by. It’s just one less thing to carry. Give it a chance, it’s awesome 👍🏼
