But if you're new to the gardening game or maybe you've tried before in the past without much success, beyond this channel I also offer a 12-chapter, self-paced online course designed to take you from beginner to expert! The first batch of enrollments is live and ready to sign up!: courses.theripetomatofarms.ca/courses/vegetable-gardening-basics
We did all this in good soil, full sun. Everything else is thriving. The onion greens are now falling over and turning yellow. The bulbs are popping out of the ground, and they’re only a little bigger than when we planted them.
Wow, I watched one of your old videos and then this one. Your voice has changed a lot. You now have the confidence of a UA-camr! Great job on your success! I love your videos.
Thank you, Jeff this sure helps. I see you don't mind working in rain, I do it alot, especially if I'm transplanting. I going to try to get a double crop.
@@brandyburgess8267 it actually doesn't matter. Or more specifically, it depends on how many. Regular spacing rules apply... 6" (15cm) between each onion.... However many onions you have will determine the size
I watch nearly all your videos, but I confess buying onions isn't much more expensive than buying the sets. Plus when your garden is small, the beans and peas are more valuable. I mean, how close is too close, anyway? 😊
I hear you.. Although this year, onions have gotten much more expensive! Even the cheap yellow ones. 80 sets for $6 should produce about $100 in white long day onions for me. Fingers crossed!
I’m having a bit of a problem with my onions. The soil is so well-draining that some onions won’t stay buried and they flop over. Also, some of the tops fall over which makes it difficult to dig in the soil around them. Can you explain why they won’t stay buried and would it be okay for those tops that fall over to cut them off? Thank you.
How deep to plant? I just pressed my sets in enough to allow roots to take. My sister-in-law says she covers most of the set with just the neck sticking out ... she gets much better results... bigger onions...
i needed this sooo bad👏🧅💓 i have been failing at every type of onion (walking onions are strong) so i paid extra attention, im like is he talking to me? 😂 duuude, it's been kinda discouraging, thank you jeffe 💋💪😎🧅💓
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms I brought some today! I've never tried this method, so I am very excited... They came in a box of 100 🤩 I got white and red! Now I'm rewatching this video 😆💓🧅😘🤞

Onion sets are in. From seeds too for the first time. Transplanting went well. All sets are doing well. Thanks Jeff!
Hi Jeff, another great video with plenty of useful hints and tips on growing onions. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
Question, where do you get straw mulch that has no seeds?
Yeah, hard to find. I get mine from my local feed supply. It's labelled as "fine, clean straw".
Very informative ❤
Thanks Jeff! I planted some sets last fall and mulched well,,,so I shall see if it was a success or not! 🤞🇨🇦
👍great video
Is there a video on how to make your own onion sets from onions started from seed?
Can I plant them in fall and have them overwinter in my raised bed?
Can u cut the green for green onions

I planted the wrong type for years because that was the type of seed available at my big box store. Weird right?

Do onion sets tend to shoot flowers due to second year growth?🇦🇺
A 100 pack of onion sets I got said 3 inches deep. Think its too deep?
I don't mind growing onions as multi-sow, usually 3 per cluster, but this does not apply to sets, for obvious reasons.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!! Yet, may I ask- can you please not speak so slowly?!! Please. Thanks 😊
