Healthcare in Mexico is incredible. I paid $25 for a home visit by an English speaking MD who spent 45 minutes with me, checked on me daily, and did another surprise home visit to check my vitals without an appointment. I spent $50 on an orthopedist at a shiny brand new hospital and $27 for an Xray that was done immediately at the hospital. I paid $25 for an ER visit at the same new hospital, had my vital signs taken like in the US, the English-speaking doctor was very thorough, and I was in and out of the ER in 45 minutes. I met a guy from Texas who lives in Puerto Vallarta now and said his cardiologist in PV has better testing and equipment than his top guy in Texas had, spends an hour with him at each visit, and charges $50.
Hi from Toronto! 🇨🇦 Jane & Mariana...you are both awesome! Great and informative interview. Both of you are so smart & successful! It's nice to hear from such a happy person. I'll be planning a trip to Huatulco to explore soon! Thanks Mariana, for all you do to educate us sobre este país maravilloso!
Loved Huatulco last year in December… so clean compared to Puerto Escondido (which dumps raw sewage directly into the entire branch). It’s so clean there’s actually teeny tiny microscopic jelly fish in the bays. Watch out; you’ll be stung a 1000x if you decide to swim at all. And don’t bother asking the locals. They hardly swim. They enjoy to just sit on the beach restaurants socializing…
I joined a few minutes late, but I did watch most of the session. I've never been to Huatulco, but it's always been on my list. I hope to visit soon and connect with Jane for a cooking class for sure!
Moved to Huatulco 4.5 years ago. It fit most of my checkpoints: small town, demographics include some expats, foreigners but mostly local Mexicans (why leave US if I only want US?), safe, some tourism but not dominated by it, surrounded by jungle (can have a garden), variety of good restaurants, friendly community. Since Covid, so much has changed. Suddenly, development, construction has taken over. The writing is on the wall. Huatulco is expanding so quickly that the infrastructure is not keeping up. Sadly, am seriously concerned I may be moved out within two years, or less. Most of my senior expat friends have left cause they can no longr afford the cost increase of everything. Am looking to the mountains now.
Would love to live there three or four months every winter because the summers are so beautiful in Seattle. Well, unless there are fires, and smoke that make you housebound. Hoping to visit Hualtulco in 2025. It’s a really really long journey to get there from Seattle. Also, we have a dog we would love to bring with us.
I’ve seen that the humidity is oppressive much of the year. True? I had my heart set on living in Puerto Vallarta until I visited in the summer and the heat/humidity/steep hills/staircases combined nearly killed me. 😂
There is a little of everything in Huatulco, but it is full of local Mexicans along with their food and traditions. I especially love the Tlayudas which originated in Oaxaca State. I would most who vacation and move here do it for the fact it feels authentic compared to other tourists areas. Salud!
We just got back from there Sunday. Don’t go during Christmas. You can’t enjoy the beaches unfortunately during that time because of the extreme business. Beaches full of people. My husband is from Mexico and didn’t even know this was such crazy time. It’s a very clean city. Not a lot to do but if you can take a trip down the river. We’ve stayed in puerto Escondido and Oaxaca city also.
Fine. Don’t see police there. But then again we never have any problems anywhere we go in Mexico. And we cross over every other week to TJ , Rosarito. Have houses there. And fly out 3 or 4 times a year.
Where to go meet local woman in Huatulco? Im moving from Colorado back to Oaxaca. I lived in Barra de la Cruz just south, and am now returning to live again, and hoping to meet someone in Huatulco!
Hello from Arkansas!!! Thank you for the broad content! Really enjoy the videos. I have a variety of a couple of questions - Q: What type of pests can I expect to experience in Hualtulco? - I have lived in many states in the US. In Arkansas, I have contend with mosquitos, scorpions, tarantulas, black widow, fleas, ticks, copperhead snakes. In south Florida, I have had to contend with mosquitos, gators, fleas, poisonous spiders & palmetto cockroaches. Q: For pets, are there boarding kennels? Do the outdoor restaurants permit dogs on leash?
I know Oaxaca has a large indigenous population and have extensively traveled throughout Mexico. I've long observed that many Mexicans don't speak Spanish, because many Indian languages are spoken throughout Mexico where there's perhaps 63 indigenous languages. I remember picking up hitchhikers in remote places and not being able to communicate with some of them given they didn't even speak Spanish - I realized that a significant percentage of Mexicans do NOT speak Spanish - I would guess more than 10% of the population?
That monetary requirement deterrs tourism. I’ve been going to Guatemala City for the winter (from November-March since 2015 and have been making it with less than $ 1,000 per month, and I eat out on every meal, it depends where you go out to eat. I just find a room for rent with shareable kitchen and showers….Spanish is my first language, so that makes easier to wheel and deal your way around. I’ll visit Huatulco next year for a couple of weeks and scope it out, to see if it’s duable for me.
@@MexicoRelocationGuide strange how nearly every city is very affordable compared to the US, and yet one cannot move there unless they have huge $$$. I have a small pension and a few investments, certainly enough to allow living expenses, and yet not to be eligible. I'm sorry to hear that, but I LOVE this channel.
Very informative thank you. I am moving outside the US in the next two years after having traveled through Mx and Central America. But I’m finding the financial requirements very confusing. On one site I’ll see a $1500 proven income is all that’s required, another was $1900 and here, if I’m hearing correctly, you’re saying temp residency is $3000. Can you clarify?
The issue is it varies by consulate And whatever you are reading could also be outdated Here’s the most up to date info mexicorelocationguide.com/mexico-resident-visa/
Hi Mariana, in regards to INM office locations as you had mentioned, what is the INM office in Mazatlan like in respect to process efficiency, timeliness, etc., in comparison to Huatulco ?
Thank you for all the information. I have a question. I am American living in the US and married to a Mexican. If we were to move to Mexico, would i need to fill any financial requirements or simply aply for a visa and apply for permanent residency after 2 years? Thank you in advance
Because you are married to a Mexican, you don't need to prove economic solvency. You would apply for temp residency for 2 years then are eligible to apply for permanent residency :)
Wonderful interview, you two. Great info. Thank you. I am not sure if Jane is aware of her tendency to interrupt and speak over people? It was quite jarring, and made it difficult to listen. It happened at least 20 times during this interview. I’m sure she didn’t mean to be disrespectful but I wanted to mention it.
If i move to Mexico on my savings and soc sec and Mexico joins brics, will the money i have be useless? I know that i can convert it to peso but will they accept the usd? It has me concerned.
Fully speculative for Mexico to join Brics- nothing has ever been confirmed or even toyed around with in the Mexican government So nothing for you to worry about really 😉

Hi Melodee- It depends on which consulate you chose to apply with. The lowest income requirement currently is at $2600 USD a month. You have to keep in mind that Mexico, like any country, wants to promote immigration for those who want to stimulate the economy. Not just "get by"
Hi Sunny! Yes- sure do. Huatulco is a good place for older single women. There are a lot of single women and a lot of meetups where you can meet others. I also know there is a lot of low impact aerobic classes if you want to stay active while living here. I also highly recommend having some amount of savings always in case of a medical emergency, since after the age of 70 it will be almost impossible to get health insurance in Mexico
