Hi sir, I'm at the age of 12 and am training to become a student pilot. This video really helped in my understanding of the G1000. Thanks so much, happy flying!
By how well written this comment was, you can see how mature you're for a 12 years old (now 16 I assume haha). Wishing a lot of success on your career / flight training, hopefully it's going well and is something you're still going for! Cheers, happy flying!
This is definitely a must-watch for every pilot using a G-1000. The only thing I wish could be added is a time-index for every different section for quick reference to a specific item / chapter.
Hi Aymeric, That is an excellent idea. Others have asked for this as well, so I now have it on my list "to do". I will be adding notes to the description to help with navigating the video. Fly Safely - Train Often DR
Thanks a lot ! I keep sharing this video with my students as they move from legacy 172s to the new SP model, it definitely makes the transition smoother for them !
A lot helpful video. I saw this video more than 10 times. You don't need any other reference for learning effective usage of Garmin G1000. All aspects are covered and justice is given to every operation in balanced manner. Thank you!
Thank you sir ,it matters not that you were not the demonstrator on the actual tutorial, but the information is valuable all the same, and whats more I am thankful to you for sharing.
Very good introduction and overview. After more than 10 years fly airliner with "glass Cockpits" and FMS:, it is truly amazing to see this level of sanctification, capability and functionality in GA level aircraft.
Thanks for a great video. I have been out of the air for a long time and was really intimidated by the glass cockpit. This video has given me enough confidence to jump into my training! I'm sure that I will miss steam gauges for awhile but this video really does make me believe that once I have made the transition... I'll wonder how I ever got along without the G1000!!!!!

Excellent 1 hour review of the G1000. I am transitioning to a G1000 equipped Piper aircraft and I believe this video will be very helpful in my initial training. Good job Dick, very well done.
I haven't flown in decades and I'm thinking of diving back in. The G1000 is a beast and I was definitely confused by all it has to offer. This video is on point! Wish it was in HD. Nonetheless, great info and presentation.
AWESOME POST. I have has two hours in the simulator to learn the g1000 and this video is the best. I am planning to go up in the 172 and train IFR on the g1000. I also want to get some time in the 182 as well.

YOu mentioned the marker beacon on the audio panel. Can you explain what is meant by "marker beacon" and an example of how that might be used in a real world situation? Thanks.
The maker beacon refers to the outer, middle and inner marker as they exist on precision approaches. Most pilots and controllers refer to the final approach fix (FAF) as “the marker”. Modern audio panels have the option of including or excluding the audio portion of the arrival at the marker. I like to have the audio alert enabled so that I can confirm my arrival at the FAF without looking away from the primary display. Fewer distractions preserve mental bandwidth and thereby improve safety. I hope this explanation helps. Fly Safely - Train Often .. DR
Thanks for the video. In the current VNV Profile am I right in saying the higher the inputted FPA the higher the VS TGT. VS REQ is what is required to meet those targets but is not displayed to after the aircraft passes the TOD. Following from that what is V DEV and what is it used for?
Yes. It is also true that all G1000 features are not available in all OEM firmware. In the PA46 we use VS for descents mostly because of the very limited speeds associated with a yellow arc. I recommend setting up the VSR parameter in the top of the screen so it is visible during the flight. The PA46 does not use V DEV so I am unaware of its use or function. Fly Safely - Train Often .. DR
When was this device first introduced into airplanes (what year?). Seems to me that the copyrights shown on the screen were in the 2003 range.... i didnt know that this unit has been around so long. what new garmin untis are there? i would think they have come a long way since this ancient video, no?
I wouldn’t say ancient.. but they’ve been around a while and now represent the majority of avionics in the PA46 fleet. The G3000 available in the M600 incorporates the same “Garminology” of the G1000 with the excellent touchscreen capabilities of the G650/750 with even bigger screens and more display options.
Hi, Regarding "red x" issues with G1000 .. I have seen this infrequently before with few different parameters in different PA46 aircraft .. comm 1 most recently. I am not sure of the origin, but a reboot seems to work every time. Sometimes it has taken more than one try, but once the red x is gone it seems to not reappear. I thought the G1000 had Auto Pilot capabilities. Didn't see that covered in this video, or did I miss it? Or was the auto pilot totally separate at this point in time.? I think the ALT and HDG buttons are there on left side, but how do you activate AP?

Hi, thanks for the great tutorial. I am having difficulty in setting the altitude profiles in VNAV as I cannot seem to get the FMS cursor to move over to the altitude fields, it just moves up and down the Waypoints... Am I missing something in the setup?
Hi Jonathan, It sounds to me like you are not using the ATK Offset soft key at the bottom of the MFD. You need to cover the fix you want to reference and then look for the ATK Offset key (along track offset). When you press the key a new line populates with access to distance and altitude.. remember, with respect to altitudes.. Blue is True.. White is Right. I think I cover this topic in a video which is still not published. I will get busy! Fly Safely - Train Often .. DR
Can someone please tell me how can I change the ETE (MFD) showing in Minute? With FS2020, my G1000 ETE showing numbers like 4325 instead of showing like 20 minutes, I can't figure out what's the meaning of those numbers. Thanks!!!!!
Hi Red Baron, Good question,, I’m not sure which panel you are referring to, however, the older panels (pre 2009 for the most part) use three rheostats under the pilot side yoke. Avidyne uses a rocker switch on the bezel to the right side of the screen and G1000 and later is auto adjust with a bias setting which is managed from the setup menu. Fly Safely - Train Often .. DR
