Ravi Zacharias is super solid. Not sure how he's on your "bad preacher" list. He spoke to an all Mormon audience on two occasions and never heard him compromise the Gospel in any way at any time. If that qualifies as "fellowshipping with the Mormons" then I'm not following your logic at all? Didn't Christ spend time with sinners? That's all Ravi Zacharias was doing. I THINK you need to do more research on that one but, ether way, I appreciate your perspective and exhortation.
2/24/21 UPDATE: We've all learned that Ravi was living in massive unrepentant, sexual sin for at least the last 10 years. I was shocked and saddened. However, you should resist the temptation to respond with the passe, unintelligent "that didn't age well" comment because 1. My argument was in regard to his theology and orthodoxy, which I still think was solid (however in God's wisdom that's possible, given how Ravi seemed to turn all spiritual discernment off once he left the auditorium) and 2. That's now a very unoriginal (and did I mention unintelligent) reply.

Ravi is a beloved giant in the Christian world but he is NOT a preacher and I would add- Ravi is NOT even a teacher of the Bible - He is a wonderful bridge from worldly philosophies into Christian thinking/philosophy.

I agreed with much of what you stated, but might I add a suggestion? You gave zero Biblical justification to any of your claims. If a modernist or neo-evangelical were to make the same video, they could justify their stance in the same way that you based your claims. You stated that much was "right" and "wrong" but without scripture it is just bias.

But that’s what fundamentalists do. They make bold, definitive statements but do not back them up with scripture. Interesting to see how much God's been separating the wheat from the chaff. I've seen a lot of people who were into the new age culture come to embrace biblical Christianity, and people who once professed to be believers either completely fall away, or perhaps even worse... Think they're following Jesus Christ when they're really following Satan.
Personally, I was pretty deep into the new age culture 10 years ago, became a Christian at a conservative neo-evangelical church that was/is dangerously close to the modern side 19 months ago, and since October have been going to a Baptist church that's incredibly close to the fundamental side(they don't do church with modernists or perform "contemporary Christian" music, nor do they see modernists as Christians, but still see people like Billy Graham as brothers in Christ)

From the time the roman catholic church came into official existence around ~600 A.D., they always attempted to keep the scriptures locked away in a dead language people didn’t commonly speak anymore to keep the scriptures from people…it was called the dark ages for a reason. But groups such as the waldenses (or the vaudois…same group) of the valleys of Piedmont of northern Italy/Southern France heralded the scriptures for something like 1000 years…and many other Christian groups besides them going all the way back to Christ and the apostles. The Roman church fell into the spirit of error very quickly…as early as around 150 A.D….

I've now watched a handful of your videos and this is the first one I largely disagree with. First, your categories are not very good. Rick Warren is not a modernist. He may have terrible methodologies, but his theology is pretty evangelical. Additionally, the charismatic heretics you noted are not modernists either. They are terribly wrong, but they aren't modernists. Their heresy is different. Second, you really show your true colors when you exemplify fundamentalists as the only good group. Bob Jones supported the KKK and was a segregationist. Spurgeon would have distanced himself and condemned many of the false teachers you have on your whiteboard, but I think he would have been in closer fellowship with many in the middle section rather than those who are considered fundamentalist. For one, most fundamentalists, like yourself I believe, are staunchly anti-Calvinism. Spurgeon and Machen were proudly Calvinists who defended it regularly. Last, all of the fundamentalists you list are dead. Are there no good living examples of fundamentalists that you can pull from? Some of them died so long ago that it is impossible to know where they would stand today and who they would fellowship with today: Machen and Spurgeon. Furthermore, John R. Rice separated himself from Jones Jr. and Jones III because of their radical separationist views.
As a side note, I like to think of myself as a fundamental evangelical. I don't like how so many heretical groups, like some that you noted in your video, are considered evangelical so easily. I think there are certain things that are non-negotiable in the Christian faith: the inerrancy of the Word of God, a literal interpretation of the creation story, a literal interpretation of the fall story, the substitutionary atonement of Jesus, and a literal return of Jesus. That is just a shortlist. There are many others. I think biblical marriage (and secular marriage) is limited to one man and one woman and sex outside of marriage goes against God's creative order. I reject the prosperity gospel. However, I cannot align myself with fundamentalist because Spurgeon, MacArthur, and Piper (two who you would reject [Piper and McArthur] and one who you disagree greatly with [Spurgeon]) are probably my largest influences theologically (Goldsworthy being another). I'm a Calvinist, which most fundamentalists reject, and which is why I find your inclusion of Spurgeon and Machen so strange as they weren't fundamentalists because they died before fundamentalism. I'm not a dispensationalist, which is largely a requirement for many fundamentalist congregations (though I was a dispensationalist because my first major Christian influence was John MacArthur). Lastly, and though I don't find it unexpected given your rhetoric, you write off all Southern Baptist churches and members, of which I once was, without any consideration of the vast diversity in Southern Baptist churches, with some being very bad, many good, and others which are great. I feed bad that I will now stop watching your videos because of your uninformed views, though I do like the work you are doing in rejecting those who are truly wrong and heretical.

Another area I noticed, and hopefully someone can correct me if my observation is off, but although he condemns rock music because it is "of the world"(although the roots of rock are from black gospel music, but I digress), he seems to be a big football fan seeing the pictures and stickers on his wall...one of the teams being the Raiders who have some of the crassest and foul mouthed fans in the league(no, I'm not a Raiders "hater"). As a matter of fact, the NFL isn't exactly a family, wholesome product. Not sure if he's been to an NFL game before, but some of the things you see and hear is flat out disgusting, and not just if you're a Christian. Even by worldly standards, the things that go on at NFL games are appalling. I decided to stop going years ago and really have become more of a casual watcher in part because of it. The same can be said for college football(been to my fair share of ACC games).

With due respect to your thoughts..I would like to say something that men of God such as Billy Graham , Ravi zacharias and some of the others that you mentioned had been a blessing to the lives of many people around the world and none of us is in a position or has the righ to judge what they had done....Talking about fellowship, they only spread the good news and did not compromised the gospel....It's not wrong to share the gospel with people or groups who are still weak in their faith in Christ or who doesn't know Him...the dangerous part are for those who think they are strong in their faith and they fellowship only amongst themselves but may dwindle because they feel they are righteous and perfect...
Sir, kindly please do a background check before you make such videos because you don't know how much they have worked and dedicated their lives in serving God..we should not try to be little them but rather appreciate for all the good things they had done for the glory of God..

In his earlier years he preached many heretical things and if you didn't pay attention and compared it to scriptures you would be agreeing with him without knowing it. Graham was widely accepted by the world and the bible says The world will HATE YOU for His names sake .if the world loved him it's because he was of the world. One thing I’m a little confused about when it comes to the difference between fundamentalist and neo-evangelicals as defined in this video in regards to willingness to “fellowship” with other’s who aren’t in line with my theological views...I have straight up unbelievers as friends, friends who seem to be modernists, and maybe some even more liberal than a modernist, and even a few friends who are catholic...so does that make me a neo-evangelical? I love and care about them and want to be a light of Christ’s love in their life and share the true Gospel of the Bible with them but as defined in this video how would I do that as a fundamentalist if I refused to fellowship with anyone who doesn’t believe the same things as I do?

    • @jfryer11
      @jfryer11 4 роки тому +4

I believe he's talking about changing your views to fit their perspective. It goes back to the heart. Why are you hanging out with them? It sounds like you are doing what Christ calls us to do, shed His light so that they can see Him in us. Not our boastful efforts.

jfryer11 that makes sense. I just wasn’t totally clear on his perspective here bc it was sounding like he was saying being a fundamentalist means to only associate with other fundamentalists.
As for me, I’d consider myself still a new(er) believer, despite growing up in the church. Ironically enough God used a saddleback church campus (Rick warren’s church) to bring me back to Him after decades astray. It’s been about 3 years now that God’s been doing an overhaul on my heart but He used what He used and it started there and changed my life. My family has since moved on from there and I discovered on my own that I was craving real meat so I can feel myself migrating towards fundamentalism, if not there yet...but I’m still in that process and haven’t quite found the right church yet to align with my convictions (currently apart of a Gospel centered church but struggling with convictions over their worship not being Bible based, this video definitely enlightened me they’re neo-ev). All that to say, I have a few close friends who are still at Saddleback since that’s in my recent past and I love them dearly, breaking fellowship with them seems harsh. In my mind, how I’m interpreting this, that would be like saying to them “I’ve moved on in my walk with God so I’m done with you because your theological views aren’t deep enough for me to associate with you any longer.” When in actuality they just have no idea (nor did I at the time). But I seem to be misunderstanding what fellowship means in this context...

But "separation from error" doesn't mean separation from the world, and while you might not be saying that, it certainly sounds like it. This video seems only one or two steps away from the Servus Christi guy who is convinced everyone is a heretic and that apostasy has infiltrated every parcel of Christian life... orthodox Christianity is certainly a hard thing to find in today's American culture, but we're not in the Tribulation just yet.
Yes, separate from modernistic, charismatic churches pastored by skinny-jean wearing, bearded "pastors," do NOT be equally yoked with them in Christian fellowship and ministry... but can we PLEASE stop sounding like paranoid hicks who denounce any and every single thing (the hick reference was not pointed at the guy in the video, just a general statement of how the enlightened crowd sees us Bible believing fundamentalists)? There are still doctrinally sound men and women out there; there are still pastors with sound theology, solid exegetical preachers who still teach the whole counsel of God... you just have to work a little harder to find them today.
UA-cam seems littered with "discernment" ministries, and I'm all for sound, Biblical teaching and practice of true BIBLICAL separation, as clearly spelled out in 1 Jn 2:15-17; 2 Cor 6:14-18 and especially 2 Jn 1:7-11... but there's a difference between Biblical separation and finding the devil behind every preacher/teacher with whom we disagree.
Finally, to the guy who did the video... if I've misunderstood your intentions then I sincerely ask your forgiveness.

So are you saying that Fundamentalists are the only ones who are true believers? I am a member of a very conservative Baptist church that falls between neo-evangelicals and fundamentalism. I believe in the virgin birth, that Jesus was fully God and fully man, that He was crucified, died and was resurrected 3 days later. I do listen to some of the pastors in the neo group. Does that make me a heretic? As far as music, I love the old hymns but I also enjoy the music and positivity of K-LOVE and Air 1. There is no such thing as Christian music...it is the lyrics that make it secular or Christian. What would you think if someone took the music of a hymn such as The Old Rugged Cross and changed the lyrics to secular ones? I just feel like you are being very judgmental and close minded in your views. I totally agree with your modernist views. I am just not sure how you can say a mighty man of God like Billy Graham has two big strikes against him. He preached the gospel and only the gospel. Your example was having Johnny Cash sing at one of his revivals. Do you really believe that we are supposed to only fellowship with like minded believers ? Where will people hear the truth? It is no wonder that so many people are turned off by believers when we are so judgmental of not only them, but of other believers. I believe that there are non negotiables (pro life, pro Biblical marriage, pro Israel, virgin birth, the trinity, crucifixion and resurrection, we are all sinners saved by grace, Jesus is the only way to heaven, etc). Where I have a problem is when we get caught up in things that will not make a difference in our eternities (musical instruments, music, etc). It just makes me sad that your vision is so critical. In closing, I believe God is the only one who knows our hearts and our motives. I am thankful that He is the Judge and not sinful human beings.

My church would be considered Evangelical and my pastor would never share a pulpit with a modernist. JD Greear is an evangelical. I challenge you to do a “I Listened to Five Hours Of JDGreear”. In the late 1920s, Jones, like Billy Sunday (who was an Iowan), accepted contributions for his evangelistic campaigns from the Ku Klux Klan. Jones also supported members of the Klan, notably his friend, Alabama Governor Bibb Graves, for political office. Although Jones rejected lawlessness and lynching, he sympathized with the Klan's professed endorsement of religious orthodoxy, Prohibition, and opposition to the teaching of evolution as fact. Racial segregation per se was hardly an issue among whites in 1920s Alabama because at the time both supporters and a majority of white opponents of the Klan were segregationists.
Nevertheless, Jones remained a segregationist into the era of the Civil Rights Movement, when he was in his 70s. There are few references to race in Jones's sermons and chapel messages until the late 1950s, but in a 1960 radio address, Jones declared that God had been the author of segregation and that opposition to segregation was opposition to God. Jones's health began to fail before the integration of neighboring Furman University in 1965, and he did not live to see the abandonment of segregation, six years later, at Bob Jones University.

An interesting video to be sure. While I agree with most of what Spencer Smith says, there is one thing that really sticks out to me that I disagree with, and that is Charles Stanley. Although Spencer says Stanley is a sound teacher and loves the Lord, I have to disagree. Back in 1990 Charles Stanley wrote a book called "Eternal Security: Can You Be Sure?" It is still in print today. In this book Stanley teaches that once a person is saved (by asking Jesus into their heart, raising their hand during an altar call, etc) they can live any way they want. They can even go so far as to leave the Christian faith altogether, live a life patterned by sin, die in that condition, and still go to heaven. He teaches that the "Outer Darkness" spoken of in Scripture, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth is actually heaven, albeit a small corner of heaven, but nonetheless still heaven. I know the man who was Charles Stanley's personal assistant for several decades. I asked him recently if Stanley still holds to these teachings that he put forth in his book and in many of his sermons and teachings. His answer was, "Oh yes, absolutely." To be honest, I am not even sure Charles Stanley is even saved. I hope he is, but I am not convinced he is, as he is a false teacher who puts forth a different gospel.

We are the salt of the earth, if we lose our saltiness, how can we be made so again? If we compromise in any way with the world, even just to get people to Christ, we in turn lose some of our saltiness( purity from the world). Also, the Word says we are a peculiar people and set apart for Christ. Same thing. If we compromise the fundamentals of the faith and borrow worldly practices/ideas to win ppl, we lose our peculiarness. Also, we aren't to have fellowship with the works of darkness. This doesn't mean don't share the Gospel with sinners, this means not linking up or agreeing in any way with those who mix the truth in with lies and use carnal means to get people to Christ or to their church.

Indeed Jesus did have fellowship with sinners and we ought to also, but I believe you are confusing everyday fellowship with church fellowship. We are directed in the bible how to conduct church, and in that we are told to separate from false teachers aka the modernist in this video. Sure, every christian has some minor differences in theology such as Calvinism vs Arminianism, or Baptism, etc. But we must agree on the essential elementary fundamental basics of the Bible, which the Modernist twist, therefor we must separate and not do church with them. That is where the Neo-evangelicals screw up. Lutherans believe in Baptism as commanded by Christ and that Baptism is effective due to faith in Christ/God and His Word. They thus believe that people are saved by God/Christ's actions through faith and not works (even insistence on "right/proper" human understanding of how God works in this case might be considered to be a "work"). Thus the important thing is to believe, trust, and obey God's Word...which Lutherans* do (*LCMS, WELS, and some others do at least. ELCA does not and probably should no longer be considered Lutheran or fully Christian)
Have no idea what statues are being referred to as I haven't encountered that. Are there crucifixes? Sure as they are meant to remind people of Christ and salvation through Him alone, but Lutherans don't worship or pray to statues or any other idols.

Jesus is clear - BEWARE of false teachers.. DO some research....We're to have an use discernment. Charles Lawson is the only TRUE Pastor here.

Could you please go into more detail about which denominations fall into which of these three categories? I’m having a hard time figuring out where Calvinists, neo-calvinists, Methodists, Baptists, etc fall into.

From Bob Jones sermon and tract
[Acts 17:26 Is Crucial and Clear: God Fixed the Bounds of the Races’ Inhabitations]
and hath determined the times before appointed, and
the bounds of their habitation.” Now, what does that say? That says that God
Almighty fixed the bounds of their habitation. That is as clear as anything
    that was ever said.
If you have a legal document and there is a paragraph
that is clear and you come across an obscure passage, you interpret the obscure
passage in the light of the clear passage. Any lawyer will tell you that. If he
has a case in court, he will say, “Now, gentlemen of the jury, here is what
this paragraph says. This one paragraph is not quite clear, but this other
paragraph is clear; and we will interpret this in the light of the clear
    passage.”

The Bible says Jesus ate with them, but He didn't fall into their way of sinning, and He always expected change from them. We are also told that if someone claims to be a believer, yet commits sins (some listed in 1 Corinthians 5:11), we are to avoid associating with them. Yet, we are also told not to judge our brothers, or God will judge us by that same standard. The truth is in God's Word, and any group that teaches anything against it, is to be avoided. However, Thank God I am not the judge, and I am not the one who decides who will be in Heaven, because many will be shocked who will be there, and who will not.

Did Christ agree with the unbelief of the sinners he met with? Was he in support of their wicked ways? NO...He called them out!

Hiii, just a young growing girly here. How do you define fellowship? Like what exactly does that mean? Like be friends with them? Worship with them? Bible study with them? Just talk to them as an acquaintance?

    • @andrealast

Ooh also, John Piper. I like him a lot. His preaching I really enjoy. Is he in the Neo-evangelical section only because he will pray with a modernist? Or does he also use modernist methods? If so, what ones? Just curious because I've never noticed but that could just be my own way of seeing things that maybe I need to rethink!

Modernist views are so not okay. I definitely believe that. I'm currently in between Fundamentalist & Neo-Ev. Just because there are some modern day Christian music that I don't think is bad. Christian rap.. I don't think that's bad either (as long as there are no cuss words or false messages in it) I just personally don't like rap music at all so I won't listen to it. I know I just need to educate myself on it all more so I'm not sitting on the fence between the two

Spencer, I have been watching your videos with intense interest. I have a couple of questions that I would like your input on. I am a fundamental Christian living out in the country in Oklahoma. It is very hard to find a Bible preaching fellowship where I live. Plus my husband doesn’t really see the need to go looking elsewhere. We attend a small United Methodist church here with a female pastor. She is a nice woman, but I cannot get away from what God’s word says about that. Any suggestions for praying about this situation? My other question is about fellowship outside of the church arena. I volunteer weekly at our local soup kitchen. It is run by the Roman Catholic Church. I was raised a catholic so I know how far it is from Christianity. I am torn about continuing to work with them. It isn’t church, but am I giving tacit agreement to their beliefs?
When visiting family in California, I went to a Jesus culture service. I really don’t know how they can call themselves Christian. It’s entertainment at best, with a vacuous pep talk that didn’t even mention Jesus. Pretty bad.

Why don't you fellowship with your husband and kids in your own home and perhaps invite other people to join you? That is what the early church did; u do not need a building called "church" to fellowship.
