When I was probably 6 or 7 in the late 80s, my Grandfather took me and my cousin to a Braves game in Atlanta. We were from Jacksonville and were staying with my grandfather’s brother for the weekend. Late in the game, my cousin was a quarter short of enough money to buy a hotdog, and this pretty lady gave him that quarter. She then walked him back to our seats and told us she was Tom Glavine’s fiancé and offered to take us down on the field after the game (which was about to end) to meet some of the players in the dugout! Would you like to know what my grandfather said? “No thanks, it’s too late. Y’all need to get to bed.” I’m 41 now and it still stings 😫 That being said, I loved my grandfather and I’d rather have him back than to have ever gone down to that dugout!
