It's funny how Maddux looks like such a regular Joe. Like he drives a minivan and has 3 daughters. Weird to think of that guy as one of the best ever lol
Those type of guys are usually the best. Underestimate their talent, because they don't look like some artists idealized version of an athlete, then BOOM! They sneak up on you and own your ass.
They are more like endurance athletes, Like baseketball players cant play 3 games a week without needing rest, when baseball players are playing 5 days a week usually
Aside from the pitcher and the catcher exactly how much work is involved? A guy can literally stand the entire game and do nothing. How does that compare to a basketball player running up and down a court constantly?
DanMan123456 cause they really only play like what 40 minutes a game 2 maybe 3 times a week. Baseball players go to work 5 days a week. Like Ripken played like 20 years without taking a day off. I know some of us call in to work a minimum of once a month
I'd be embarrassed to report how many times I have seen this. It always picks up my day. And I became a major Kris Bryant fan because of this. He handled it so well !
I'm in my late 50's now. I've always loved the game and I've seen the best play it. This fella right here is the best pitcher I've ever seen, period. Hands down. Anyone who's played the game has heard a coach tell a pitcher to "stop throwing and start pitching" - well, this gentleman is the embodiment of just what that means.
Maddux was the best pitcher of his generation. I've never seen a pitcher more consistently control a game than him. Other guys had better stuff and arms, but were not as good a pitcher as him. He was simply brilliant. Still has it too.
How great is it to hear someone talking you up when they don't know you're there. That's awesome. Kris seems to be a nice guy, whether pranking or being pranked lol
good comment! Greg was so dominant in the major league!!... Now rememberign that unforgetable world series Braves vs Yankees was so Epic with two real masterminds (bobby co & Joe torre) & amazing pitchers from both sides (Maddux, Smoltz vs Petite, Jimmy Key plus the latin Mariano Rivera closing to NYY) what a series man!! Maddux was so greaat but Braves lost that series & it was a huge come back to the Yankees since 1978..... Anyway good prank, "...u saw that curve..this guy is better ...."...that kris's face with some frustration & so competitive hard trying hahahaha....Wonderful Greg Maddux!!
I love the child like excitement Kris showed when he really that the "Camera Man" was kinda good, lol. That's the mark of a competitor: they thrive and embrace the competition, no matter from who or where
In his prime guys usually hit the ball against Maddux...right to the exact fielder that Greg had pre-chosen. He made YOU obey HIM. He knew your swing and tendencies better than you did. Nearly android precision. Looked like an accountant, pranked like a frat boy. The one and only, not to be repeated Greg Maddux.
Maddux is 51 and not even using the proper technique...He's not even lifting his leg during the delivery and Bryant is still having trouble hitting it. Pure legend of the game! You young kids take notes on what "real" pitching is all about.
They dont make them like they used to. Mets fan till Rays came into the league, talk about talent thats old now. Would love to see the young studs of today bat against a prime Dwight Gooden or Pedro Martinez or Nolan Ryan. Man I love baseball.
I usually don’t like these spoof videos. I watched this one because it was Maddux and he was a true pitcher. He didn’t throw 95-98. He PITCHED!! So, I bit on this one. It is outstanding. Thanks.
Greg Maddux was one of the greatest pitchers of all time, hands down. He also seems like a heck of a nice guy, as does Kris Bryant. So good to see Greg again, and no I am not a Braves or Cubs fan. I too recognize a huge talent in Greg and applaud both men for an entertaining prank.
Too many meathead coaches think size is all that matters. There were 4 inner circle HOFers (ignoring the BBWA) from his era: Maddux, Clemens, Unit, and Pedro. Somehow two of those guys were "undersized" to be pitchers. Maddux wasn't just a pitcher. He was an athlete. Good at hitting, fielding, and even running. He did it all. He wasn't a pitcher. He was a baseball player.
@@robloxvids2233 It's also worth mentioning that when I was a kid, one of the things I liked about baseball was the fact that you DIDN'T have to be big to play. With basketball, only tall players can play, so I ruled out basketball at a very young age. If baseball is going to go the same route and force players to be gigantic, they are going to lose 80% of their farm system (young talent) because people will give up on baseball early and pursue athletic careers in other sports where height doesn't matter. The NBA doesn't even have a minor league system because their talent pool is so shallow.
Greg Maddux not getting 100% for the HOF is why the rules changed. Any writer who did not vote him in or moreover didn't vote at all is now exposed. Great move by the baseball HOF.
A rule change was LONG overdue. Nolan Ryan didn't get 100% when he went in back in 1999. If being the all-time leader in strikeouts, pitching 7 no-hitters & winning a World Series with the freaking Mets of all teams doesn't earn you an unanimous vote, something is wrong with the system.
Baseball HOF is more about the writers thinking they're better than the game and the players. Some guys simply didn't vote for players on their first ballot, regardless of who they were. There should be 50 players in the HOF with 100% votes. Craziest thing is the first player to get 100% is a RP.
As a Vegas local, who went to Bonanza High school, this was awesome! I wish I could run into these guys at the park. My brother little brother went to high school with Chris! I was lucky enough to be bowling at the Gold Coast in the early 90’s and Greg and his brother Mike were in the lane next to me. As an early teenager who played baseball his whole life, that was the most exciting thing that ever happened! I love Greg Maddox! Great guy!

Free of any idea how complex baseball in real is, how to throw curve balls, fast balls and others i must say : this guy maddux is fantastic and a great ambassador of his sport! I watch this clip again and again, and i like every time what I see. Maybe baseball would have been my sports if i lived and growed up in USA.... Or golf as a professional. Thanks for this video!
To give a little context, maddux throws fairly simple stuff, curveballs and fastballs (of various variety) are pretty common, further more none of his stuff is”aggressive”. His fastball was considered slow, for mlb, and his curve while good wasn’t as big of a drop as other pitchers. What maddux brought was pitch placement, perfect control just grazing the strike zone (areas where you are expected to hit the ball)
Americans are the best at these kind of pranks. Love it how Chris’ attitude changed quickly once he recognized the great quality of pitching and the competitor in him woke up immediately. He felt challenged. “Gimme one more”. 😉👍🏼
Anytime I knew he was pitching in Philly, I would try to go to watch him. He always looked like the most out of shape pitcher in the majors but was one of the best. His control to paint the corners was amazing.
I like that Bryant recognized talent before recognizing Maddux.

That’s something I’m surprised that nobody picked up on. Huge break for that distance.
And practically flat footed.
My first thoughts as well
"this sound guys got a good curve ball, what sorcery is this!!!!"
I dare all the girls to push cool whip pies in their face and put the video on youtube!!
***** if you pie yourself first
Botie Master lol
Anthony Abelardo what's wrong with you is that your secret weird fetish
lol
It's funny how Maddux looks like such a regular Joe. Like he drives a minivan and has 3 daughters. Weird to think of that guy as one of the best ever lol
Those type of guys are usually the best. Underestimate their talent, because they don't look like some artists idealized version of an athlete, then BOOM! They sneak up on you and own your ass.
That is exactly why he is the best ever.
I’ve watched this about 20 times and I love how quick Kris goes from “No, I don’t want to like…… no” to hyper competitive “Alright ONE MORE”x5
I watch this like every few months and it always makes me smile. Amazing!
I'd be embarrassed to report how many times I have seen this. It always picks up my day. And I became a major Kris Bryant fan because of this. He handled it so well !
Imagine they let Kris go home that day not knowing Maddux was the one pitching
Lol, he'd be having nightmares about the sound guys curve ball. Haha
" We gotta pick this guy up "
I'm in my late 50's now. I've always loved the game and I've seen the best play it.
This fella right here is the best pitcher I've ever seen, period. Hands down.
Anyone who's played the game has heard a coach tell a pitcher to "stop throwing
and start pitching" - well, this gentleman is the embodiment of just what that means.
I played and worked through to MiLB level. I've heard that a fraction of the number of times I've heard "stop pitching and just play catch." 🤣
Greg is awesome. Good example of a great player who did it his way
Maddux was the best pitcher of his generation. I've never seen a pitcher more consistently control a game than him. Other guys had better stuff and arms, but were not as good a pitcher as him. He was simply brilliant.
Still has it too.
I come back to this about once a year and it cracks me up every time.
"Try to hit it off the barrel it'll sound really good." Hilarious
How about "that's a ball man" " I know , I know geez"
Greg: "You want some hand sanitizer?"
me: TAKE THE DAMN SANITIZER KRIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
K
If you though this would be funny...it’s not
@@Tommybartwell9 Actually, it was.
No Name just because u don’t think it’s funny doesn’t mean no one else thinks it’s funny
Wish I could g back in time
How great is it to hear someone talking you up when they don't know you're there. That's awesome. Kris seems to be a nice guy, whether pranking or being pranked lol
At least Kris Bryant tried his best. Maddux didn't even lift his leg. lol.
Maddux likely knows how to drive with his feet (without the leg kick or even mound) better than the average BP Coach.
good comment!
Lifting his leg gives away the works.
Phillies fan here and Greg Maddux is possibly one of the best top three pitchers of all time. He was absolutely amazing.
Los Angeles rams fan here. My opinion is more important because I prefaced it with my team allegiance
Candy Banks That’s why he was called the professor
Something even better that you failed to mention Greg "Mad Dog" Maddox got 27 outs in around 2 hours. He didn't take very long to beat you.
Certain pitches and movement of the ball dictates where and how far the ball will travel.
@@JAMES-wl2pd Different swings will also play a factor.
Heard him save he would through home run balls on purpose in spring training.
Kris's realization that in this scenario he's not "the dude" when Greg's like "Nah, I don't want your bat" is so great.
@4:17--The coldest, "No", EVER!
They look a bit like Walter and Jesse Pinkman from Breakingbad Bad lmao
DerTob haha good call
DerTob how did you get all those subcibers
This sound guy's got a good curve ball...
Its not the peanut boy.
..if not, the best curveball I have ever seen.
Maybe a HOF curve?
hahaha epicly funny
was probably that deadly change up
this video never gets old......... always puts me in a good mood :)
Haha. Loved every second of this. Maddux is a great guy. Can't wait to see Bryant and the Cubs bring home another title this year.
Ya bout that
Hmm youre here
4 years later ...............🤷🏽♂️
I still got faith in them
This didn't age well..
Maybe they edited the video as well, to make him look bad batting against Maddux.
Baseball today is harder than baseball back then. Get with the times and shut up
Based on what facts? or is that your opinion?
hes also pitching from 10' away
I usually don’t like these spoof videos. I watched this one because it was Maddux and he was a true pitcher. He didn’t throw 95-98. He PITCHED!! So, I bit on this one. It is outstanding. Thanks.
Greg Maddux was one of the greatest pitchers of all time, hands down. He also seems like a heck of a nice guy, as does Kris Bryant. So good to see Greg again, and no I am not a Braves or Cubs fan. I too recognize a huge talent in Greg and applaud both men for an entertaining prank.
“And Maddox gasses him out with an 85 mph fast ball for his eighth k” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I loved that this was so genuine. No swear words which by today's standards is rare.
Off-camera, Kris Bryant asked Greg Maddux to sign a ball for him
I would hate to think he didn't !
Oh for sure lol
But who wouldn’t?
Kris went from hot shot all-star to humble pie mere mortal in 10 minutes. Greg Maddux true legend.
Watching it again 5 years later and this will forever be funny to me 😄
Maddux was unreal. 5'11 180 for a pitcher is small. To do what he did in his career defies logic. Location Location Location
That's spot on correct.
you mean 5'8" and 230? lol! (Maddux was and apparently still is insanely good. sorry to chide his eating habits in retirement!)
MLB needs more pitchers like Greg Maddux today and less 6'8" ogres who throw nothing other than 100 mph fastballs.
You think that’s bad? I was recently looking up some old stats and TED freaking WILLIAMS only got 93% of the HOF vote.
@@NickPoeschek Well, some writers were waiting for somebody good.
Wayne Egli he’s not the only one who deserved 100% either
Great guy!
"Chicks dig the long ball" - Greg Maddux
More like - Nike Marketing Department
"Hey, have you guys seen Mark?"
Greg maddux
"Still want my bat?" No. - classic.
It was always a pleasure watching him pitch. He was a true artist.
Maddox was a truly amazing pitcher. Great prank .
From throwing shade to the sound guy to being humbled that he’s not even the star of the video. Love it
"I even mentioned you". And the last thing Kris would have expected was to face the legend himself. Great prank, a joy to watch time and time again !!! 😊
dude he looked like he actually had no idea, lol
Daniel Cooney Come on man, You are joking.. Right? He obviously knew... Fun for Greg Maddox to throw batting practice to anyone for sure. He knew!!
My father met Greg Maddox once and had no idea who he was. Maddox told him that he was a pitcher for the Braves and my father said, if you say so.
Your dad may have met Greg Maddox, but did he ever meet Greg Maddux?
Thanks autocorrectur
Watching this NEVER gets old.
"Soundguy's got a nice curve ball"
Yes Kris, and he can put it on whatever square inch he wants to.
He should've thrown a cutter.
@@Jason918114 That's what I was waiting for, for him to break out the entire arsenal.Maybe not dialing it up too hard especially with the slider &/or the pitches that really take a toll on the arm.
@@bigcee8393 that would have been epic, 7 different pitches, all strikes.
And, that was his 4th best pitch.
Im from Vegas and a lifetime Cubs Fan. I think Greg Maddux is the best pitcher to ever live.
Maddux never looked like a baseball player when he WAS a baseball player
whitedevil2 Looked like he could be an accountant.
Yeah, was always "how the hell does that high school geometry teacher keep striking people out?"
his Dad bod deceived people as well as his pitches did

i dont know baseball so can someone tell me whats special in maddux's pitch . it looks slow ,can someone explain
Americans are the best at these kind of pranks. Love it how Chris’ attitude changed quickly once he recognized the great quality of pitching and the competitor in him woke up immediately. He felt challenged. “Gimme one more”. 😉👍🏼
Maybe, although Peter Forsberg pranking what I think might have basically been a rec league team in Sweden was good.
Anytime I knew he was pitching in Philly, I would try to go to watch him. He always looked like the most out of shape pitcher in the majors but was one of the best. His control to paint the corners was amazing.
Him and Jamie Moyer were fun to watch.
Simply one of the best pranks ever!!
