- The legendary Dr.John, Professor Longhair, Earl King and The Meters perform Big Chief in live grand finale of "Dr. John's New Orleans Swamp" on PBS Soundstage in 1974, Chicago.
How I miss those years in the Seventies when you could see Fess at the MapleLeaf the night after Booker and cross the street to Jeds and see Earl King and down to the 501 Club :) to see the Meters, Dr John and then the Nevs...they were truly the best years of my life musically. Bless them all ....their sounds will resonate through the generations as new folks discover them,
And this is what make New Orleans so special it's so different from any other City around the world. I am so proud and honored to be a new orleanian! Who dat⚜⚜⚜
God YES! ⚜️Can’t believe we’ve lost so many of these wonderful people- Fess, Earl, Mac, Art, Uganda. I was lucky to be born in New Orleans in the 1950’s. ⚜️💜💚💛⚜️
Ya'all so blessed,I spent quite a few mighty fine yrs there! Ohhh LA!
⚜️
Who Dat! ⚜
NOLA Strong! 💪🏽
New Orleans ⚜
No place like home 🏠
RIP all of my N.O. Legends that have passed on.. 😢
African music and culture transplanted to New Orleans. Without it New Orleans would not be New Orleans.
Nobody play the piano like DrJohn !! Unbelievable 🎉
They're letting Professor Longhair drive this. He was incredibly good. Had swing in his bones and his fingers were on fire. What his left hand did still makes piano players shake their heads in wonder.
Yep. Luv Dr John but there is a huge wealth of fantastic pianists who hailed from NOLA.
FIND THE LEVEE AND BURN IT DOWN PROFESSOR LONGHAIR IS KNOCKING OUT THE KEYBOARD HOW LUCKEY ARE WE TO HAVE ALL THIS TALENT IN NEW ORLEANS ALL OUR LIVES THANK YOU ALMIGHT GOD THE MUSIC MAN
The Professor had the chops on the piano, wow!
He needs more recognition as everyone else here is young and stands on his musical shoulders.
Yes, and the Professor stands on the shoulders of Jelly Roll Morton (listen to Morton’s the Crave and be blown away).
@@greenleopardI can't see the similarity, apart from the fact they both play piano
Lucky enough to have seen dr John in concert twice rip Mr New Orleans

Believe it or not, Earl said he wrote this song about his mother! I heard him say that in his office- the Tastee Donuts on Prytania and Louisiana, next to the pay phone. 👍Miss him.

Dr John was real cool
Dr. John sang The Popeyes jingle! Proud to be New Orleanian 🎭🎭🎭🎭🎭❤️
New Orleans. You're welcome world.
Love that New Orleans sound! You can definitely tell where these guys hail from.
Philadelphia? 😆
I used to down to jazz and heritage festival in N'awliins every year and if I had the money I would want my funeral to be like a second line. This reminds me so much of going to Tipintina's and seeing every blues player and cajun player and zydeco player and gospel singer you name it. So here's something a little different for the music that my friends listen to
In the 80s I saw John Lee Hooker there and we got out at daylight.
Anyone who doesn’t like this has a hole in their soul
Agreed❤
So much talent. Would see them at Tips for free.
Man! Bringing down the house! And so much talent there, I'm blown away, I have never seen all these guys together like that! One thing for sure a person can always find new things in music to discover!
~**~RIP and love always~**~

Rip the MAN!!!
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww, helllll yah.
WoW !!!
Oh! He's so cute here!
❤
Too bad this was happening in Chicago rather than New Orleans; the band looks like they're enjoying this a lot more than the audience.
Shannon Warner The audience probably wasn't aware of the significance of this lineup of New Orleans music royalty. To a New Orleans audience this would have been equivalent to a jam session with the Beatles and the Stones.
maybe theyre hypoglycemic
Chicago sucks.
Grew up on the North Shore but my blood is from the Crescent City! #GeauxTigahs
Dr. John survived..even the lackluster audience. Hey, maybe them Chi peeps had an off-night. This was the 70's, right??
the way Fess is dressed it is the late it's.
the late 70's.
RIP Mac.....
Go BIG CHIEF,uptine rilar ya byo eJ HAPY MADA GRIS EVABDYE,😁😎🤘🖤💙✌
Much respect for the King, but this is funky, this is New Orleans!
Mubo Gumbo; Happy Mardi-Gras
Dr. Teeth brought me here
Professor longhair solo singing is the best cover of King Earl. Plus singing along side him in this video professor stick out like a fat thumb.
Shame we can hardly hear Zig in the mix until the halfway point.
Not gonna be better than this.
Vocal and instrumental solos from Fess
30 People have NO IDEA!!!

Happy Mardi Gras 😁😁😁
Happy Mardi Gras 2024 ⚜
That is one stage full of funkiness. Over the top funk excellence, but what is wrong with that audience?????
MR EARL TRICK BAG KING DOING THE VOCALS THE MUSIC MAN
DENNY R MAN Earl also wrote “Let The Good Times Roll” famously covered by Hendrix and Stevie Ray. I saw him jam with Stevie Ray on that song at New Orleans Jazzfest around 1983.
DR JOHN PROFESSOR LONGHAIR EARL KING ART NEVILLE AND THE METERS ALL ON THE SAME STAGE HOW GREAT CAN IT GET ILL CALL IT PARDY GRAS PARTY GRAS
Earl looks a little lit up on this take :]
Man I miss when instruments were the only way to make music
How could you thumbs down this ?
"Fess" is smiling right now.

FIND THE LEVEE AND BURN IT DOWN
Dr. John goes a little more manic than normal here huh... Give 'em some space huh?
Or wait...? Thats professor.. too many keys here..
Dr. John's so young and skinny here - still pretty, though.
hmmm....not exactly all of the Meters...it looks like it may be Zig on drums and Art is certainly there...the guitarist they show looks like Alvin Shine Robinson, bass player does not look like George. Small things, still great!
Zig plays the first half of the show. But, this is Freddie Staehle on trap kit. I will be playing with him tonight.
I'm thinking the conga player is Didymus !!
George is the guy in white playing tamborine. Here's another clip from the same show featuring The Meters. ua-cam.com/video/p5IQ0y8wllk/v-deo.html
Came to similar conclusions myself. Zig on drums: can't tell. Art on B3: yes. Leo on guitar: definitely not. George on bass: I don't think so.
Loved the clip all the same :)
Brilliant but it feels too rushed.
The crowd looks traquilized.
Wasaaay too fast!!!
I agree. In reality, this tune has a groove you just sort of melt into.
Great to see them all but it all sounds like a big mess. Way too fast to be tight or have any groove. Everybody racing to the one.
