I was 13 yrs old when I saw Deep Purple ,also my very 1st concert ever ,opening act was Nazareth ,Stone City Attractions ,Abilene Texas, what a memory this brings back, I'm 64 yrs old now ,watching these videos makes it like it happen yesterday,,,
Could listen to Jon Lord speak for hours. Hughes is correct in saying that rock n roll is not meant to be polite, it's meant to be dangerous. Bands need to understand that today.
I was 16 when I saw Ritchie on TV at the California Jam. That level of energy is how I have lived my life. With that mindset, failure is never an option.
Just out of interest how much were Deep Purple paid for this show? To lose the best part of half a million dollars is a bummer to say the least but I guess they still made a few Bob.
Actually Blackmore copied and stole a lot of stuff that he admits to. One of those is :\"guitar smashing" that he copied from Hendrix (watch Woodstock) who copied from the originator Pete Townshend.
WDWTWA was simply RUSHED out the door by Warner Bros AFTER Gillan/Glover were fired BECAUSE Machine Head and MIJ were SO strong (Top 10 LPs U.S.) and Warner had VERY little confidence that Purple would even survive at all let alone lead to tremendous success of Burn.
@@jaysantos536 Gillan wasn't fired. He quit, and gave them a 9 month notice. Finished all contractual obligations he had with the band. Finished all touring obs, unlike Ritchie who quit during a tour and they had to find a replacement - when Satriani stepped in. ( ps.......nothing neg towards RB - my favorite guitarist for over 50 years ). Glover, yes, he was let go.
David must have some guts to face that many people, when you consider he'd only played workingmen's clubs with The Fabulosa Brothers and The Government in the early '70's. The camera was pre arranged: if you notice the cameraman wasn't shocked, he even walked forward a few steps which gave it away, and Ritchie's body language as he threw the guitar on the floor showed resignation, he knew the guy had given it away. Had it been unscripted the guy would have jumped back and used WTF body language, but he was perfectly in control. A nice idea, but pre arranged. Incidentally, Tommy Bolin was watching the concert on TV and later laughed about Ritchie "almost burning his britches" when the amps exploded and the flames gushes across the stage. Ritchie then goes to retrieve his guitar when a second explosion goes off, which he wasn't expecting.
Finally downloaded the remastered bootleg of this legendary show. Ritchies guitar is right up the mix on the remaster plus..theres the bonus San Diego bootleg show they did three days later..another awesome boot.
This album Burn is my introduction into Deep Purple. I was 13 at the time. I am still a fan. Personal opinion is i like Stormbringer and Come Taste The Band. I am not a fan of Purple post 84 even though I saw them live a couple of times. The Foxbat cd which came out in 95 is annoyingly good.
Deep Purple mk 3 & 4, main cause of their demise was, everybody wanted to be the front man. .Coverdale WAS the lead singer. .Hughes and Bolin refused to just sing back up.
WRONG. Listen to both Hughes and Coverdale. IT was more of a dual lead singer and neither Coverdale or Hughes wanted to be "the guy" because Coverdale had not earned it and Hughes didnt need it. MK 3 demise was caused because BLACKMORE quit period and Bolin wasnt up to the task because he was HIGH as a kite 24./7/ Listen to Glenn Hughes interviews before making ignorant statements.

@@wholeworld399 why are you so hung up on Hughes? He was a better "team player" than at least half of the band. Your "opinion" about Hughes is way off..period. Coverale never had a bad word to say about dude during or since Purple. Thats a fact and they are still great friends. Only time Glenn was "as ass" was during coke binges that occured mostly with Bolin. And Bolin was NEVER any good as a ROCK guitarist AND he was addicted to heroin and cocaine the entire time with Purple.
Most people stopped talking about Ritchie Blackmore about 27 years ago, Deep Purple on the other hand have released 7 epic albums since then, the last 3 have all sold incredibly well, this current (2002 - 2020) line up of DP is actually the second most successful line up of this iconic band after the "classic" M2 line up and for alot of younger fans Steve Morse is the only DP guitarist they've ever known 🙂
Listen to "Black Night" - the live performance captured on Mk.2's tour of Japan, August 1972 (I speak of the particular night's performance that became available on "24 Carat Purple" and on some other compilations in the 1970s and not the other night's performance - good though that is - that became available only much later). Quite frankly the difference between that level of performance and the type of performance with Morse (and Gillan whose voice is a shade of its former self) is the difference between chalk and cheese. I'll never stop talking of Blackmore (I don't, however, include Blackmore's Night in my praise) until the day I die - same for the other members of Mk.2 - including, yes - Ian Gillan - whose vocal abilities back in the early 1970s were astonishing !!!
Tommy wasn't underrated. Ritchie thought he was a very good player. He influenced Jeff Beck's fusion playing. Played with several jazz greats and they all knew what they had when playing with Tommy. Plus there's tribute albums coming out all the time. He was appreciated and well respected. It was his last, really just couple years where the devil got a hold of him and unfortunately for all of us, the devil won. And me personally, I've been a fan since Spectrum, and continue to be.
Hello greetings from Peru. A favor, can you remaster the video Hard Lovin man, improve your audio please, that music is spectacular, also remaster the video Speed Kind. your audios that are heard better please.
No Gillan, No Glover = plastic purple, just two short years later this ridiculous excuse of a line up (minus blackmore) almost killed the band for good. Thank God Gillan/Glover reformed the real line up and saved the future of the band, 10 amazing albums later (Not included slaves/masters) and Deep Purple get to cement their rock legacy forever, just like the stones 5 decades of amazing music.
Gillan & Glover didnt reform the band. It was actually Ritchie's idea from what I've read. I even think there's a clip on youtube somewhere of Ian Gillan even confirming this but I couldnt find it.

The infamous 1974 California Jam!
"That is the epitome of what rock music should be" Said like a true rock legend, Mr Hughes🤘🏾🤘🏾
Oh my gosh,Ritchie broke it!! It's amazing that he can play the guitar with his feet. Thank you for the best video🎶🌹🔥🌹🎸👍👏👏👏
Just because he was touching the guitar with his feet doesn't mean he was "playing" it. SMH 😖😖
Just shows you shouldnt mess with the man in black. Got the dvd and its brilliant.
$75,000 in 1974 is the equivalent to $460k today. Holy shit!

Fake. The camera stunt wasn't planned.
Nobody will ever top blackmoor setting his stacks on fire
And then you read the media's bs point of view that Ritchie intended to attack the camera man etc and that it was personal and not part of the act.

Does anyone know why they did not turn-up for their gig at the Kursaal, Southend-on-Sea, around that time?
Someone probably looked at Blackmore the wrong way
Just kidding, Blackmore stuck to his morals and didn’t like being screwed over
Rock'n'roll should be dangerous, volatile, not polite he says, which explains the reckless, self centered irrational society we live in today.
