Nancy Wilson had a cold when she recorded the song. When she recovered she did another take, but the producer decided that the take when she had a cold was better as the rawness and slight cracks added emotion to the performance. This song was the 3rd single released from their self title 1985 album which was a huge commercial comeback for the group after a sales slump in the early 80s. These Dreams would end up going #1, the first of two #1's for them. Ironically Nancy led their first #1, as it was first single released by Heart with Nancy on lead as Ann always did lead on songs released on singles (Nancy usually led an album track here and there before then). A few more Nancy led Heart songs to check out as you enter the Heart rabbit hole: Nada One, Stranded, and Hey You. As for Ann--she's one of the great rock singers period. Three to check out: Love Alive, Wait for an Answer, and Rage.
Nancy is really a wonderful lead singer. I was blown away by how great she still sounds, while listening to These Dreams, in their Live in Seattle concert. The entire Seattle concert has amazingly good sound quality, nearly all of their best songs, and is easy to find on UA-cam.
Nancy was suffering some flu and her voice was a little raspy but ironically it made her sound better in this song. My favorite Heart's song is Alone. You can't miss this one.
One of the rare times when Nancy Wilson sings lead vocals...and the lush harmonies with Ann are beautiful, eh? Here's my Heart recommendations: Wait For An Answer Who Will You Run To Wild Child Never
Great reaction, Tasha, and thank you for embarking on this journey through some of Heart's wonderful catalogue! My suggestions would be "Dog and Butterfly" (try to find a live version), "White Lightning and Wine", "Dreamboat Annie", and their cover of Led Zeppelin's song "The Battle of Evermore" as it features the two of them each performing differently on stage than they normally do. Enjoy the journey!!!!!!
Magic Man, Crazy on You, Dream of the Archer, Dreamboat Annie, Strait On, and the list goes on. Crazy on you needs to be done live from the seventies. A great deal of their best music was in the 70's before they had to change their style in order to acclimate the change of sound the 80's brought.
One of my favorite songs is Straight On. But the way they play it on The Road Home, a live album released in 1995 is more of a funky style. It chronicles a club performance in the "unplugged" style in their home city of Seattle. Another great performance is The Kenndey Center Honors where Heart honors Led Zeppelin by performing Stairway To Heaven for Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, President Obama and an audience of stars in 2012. Also they were joined by Jason Bonham, the son of the original drummer John Bonham of LZ. My son took me to see them in 2019 for my birthday at The Hollywood Bowl in LA. They sound just as good as they did when I saw them in 1977. All their songs are awesome.
Tasha, i subscribed FOR your analyses of the lyrics... thank you! as far as this song by Heart... if you are a lucid dreamer (meaning you are aware you are in a dream, you can act on your own volition in dreams, and sometimes even change them) then it is not eery or even scary to hear things like a voice calling or sensing deception, like in the lyrics. it is all just part of the challenge of the "videogame" dreamscape. i THINK that is why she is saying "every second of the say, the further they're away"... she is wanting to be back in dreamland where she has control in her lucid dreaming.
If only for yourself, you have to watch their live performance called (Heart The second ending 1976) it was very early in their career and magic was captured on film in my opinion. Ann hits notes during that show she never hit again or ever caught on recorded media so to say, also, it showcases her skills and talent with the flute. ❤
This song has always been haunting to me, My little brother actually bought Hearts greatest hits CD in the early 2000's and we agreed to trade CD's. I don't even remember what I traded him, but that is the one he traded me. My wife loves it!
Dog and Butterfly from their album of the same name has always been my fav. I would beg to differ about time-telling in a dream. If someone is smoking weed in your dream, you know it's 4:20 !!! lol. Nice reaction.
Favorite....lol, Alone, Dog and Butterfly, Never, Dreamboat Annie, Magic Man, Crazy on You, Strait On, Bebe LeStrange, Heartless, Nothin at All, Who Will You Run To, just put on an album and let it roll...Absolute Rock Royalty,
To me the coolest part of this video is at the beginning when Nancy looks down into the water and Ann is the reflection. I think that's so cool but no one ever seems to notice it in these reactions.
You also can't read a newspaper in a dream. Anything that requires real-world logic does not work when that part of your brain is in-active. If you become aware of yourself while you are dreaming, you might realize that you are speaking another language. At least, until you become aware. While you are fully dreaming, the conversation seems to make sense but when you start to come around and the logic part of your brain starts to work, the words turn out to be gibberish. I woke myself up that way so many times! The shock of realizing that I am speaking gibberish wakes me up. It's hard to stay in the dream once you realize you are dreaming. But I do love when I realize I am dreaming and I am not waking up, because then I get to FLY like I have the super-power! Cool, right? :)
Dreamboat Annie, Little Queen, Crazy On You, Magic Man, Straight On, Dog & Butterfly, What About Love?, Alone, All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You, and Heartless.
👍😊LETS SEE TASHA : MAGIC MAN, CRAZY ON YOU, KICK IT OUT, LITTLE QUEEN, HEARTLESS, STRAIGHT ON, DOG AND BUTTERFLY, SO THERE'S 7 OF THEM FROM 4 ALBUMS IN A ROW TASHA! ENJOYYY THE HEART EXPERIENCE!💯
here are more for you... All I Want To Do Is Make Love With You.. Never.. Stranded.. Secret.. What About Love.. Who Will You Run To.. Theres The Girl.. I Didnt Want To Need You.

One of my favorites Heart songs. Nancy’s voice was perfect for this song.
Nancy was suffering some flu and her voice was a little raspy but ironically it made her sound better in this song. My favorite Heart's song is Alone. You can't miss this one.
Nancy has such a beautiful voice. Check out "Dog and the Butterfly", "What about Love" and "Alone." They're still touring together.
These ladies were in my time and I have the music of heart good singers God help me I'm getting older thanks honey for playing it 💞 appreciate it
Heart's first number one single, sung by Nancy instead of Ann.
One of the rare times when Nancy Wilson sings lead vocals...and the lush harmonies with Ann are beautiful, eh?
Here's my Heart recommendations:
Wait For An Answer
Who Will You Run To
Wild Child
Never

She actually had a cold when recording this and the producers loved it.
This is nostalgic for me. We used to play this song, and the entire album, in the High School cafeteria between classes back in the 80s.
When Nancy Wilson recorded this song, she had a bad cold. So that's why the crack or rasp in her voice !

About 6 songwriters wrote this song including Bernie Taupin who wrote the lyrics for Elton John.
Heart - “How can I refuse you”❤ great song
Their cover of Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center Honors is dreamy!!!
FULL version I will add!
that 'what the hell' moment was worth the price of admission. lol. i vote for 'straight on for you' as a favorite heart song.
Tasha, i subscribed FOR your analyses of the lyrics... thank you!

“White Lightening And Wine “ is a great Heart deep cut for you to experience!
The famous Nancy Wilson leg kick at 06:26 mark.
There music is timeless and beautiful! Your reactions are always so spot on and introspective!!! Love it! Thank you!
I heard Nancy say in an interview that she had a cold the day she recorded this and thus the gritty sound.
They're right. She had a cold when they recorded this song. You need to see the live version!
Good memories with these ladies! You are playing my fav song from them. Awesome reaction!❤❤
This astral dimension, where we go in our dreaming, is timeless. Time as we experience it, in this physical reality, only exists here.
Most definitely The
Kennedy center led Zeppelin tribute of ❤ Hearts cover of
STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN 😇

Anne and Nancy "Live in Seattle" Alone and These Dreams in concert. also Heart does a dynamite cover of Kashmir and Black Dog.
This song has always been haunting to me, My little brother actually bought Hearts greatest hits CD in the early 2000's and we agreed to trade CD's. I don't even remember what I traded him, but that is the one he traded me. My wife loves it!

Fabulous!! So many great songs!! Dog and Butterfly is one of my favorites though!! 😊
Dog and Butterfly from their album of the same name has always been my fav. I would beg to differ about time-telling in a dream. If someone is smoking weed in your dream, you know it's 4:20 !!! lol. Nice reaction.

beautiful in all worlds are these sisters.
These girls could SING!
The intro to this song always reminded me of the "Reading Rainbow" song. I watched that show as a kid.
'Nothing At All' is one of my fav Heart songs!
Mine too. It slips past most unnoticed, but has a great groove and that rock bounce that Heart delivers so well. 🤘
"There's the Girl", and "Who Will You Run To".. some of their 80s best!
This video was fired best video for the whole decade of the 80’s on MTV.
A Heart journey is a trip inside your own heart
Loving your solo channel. Digging deep into the lyrics is a good idea.
Keep on r'actin .
To me the coolest part of this video is at the beginning when Nancy looks down into the water and Ann is the reflection. I think that's so cool but no one ever seems to notice it in these reactions.

This is my favorite song great reaction
Love the 80’s and this is my favorite
If I remember correctly, Nancy had a cold or some congestion during recording, therefore the vocal fry, but I agree with you. I love the fry.
A throwback song from Heart to listen to is "Dreamboat Annie".
Heart? A great rock and roll band.
Straight on, magic man and what about love are my favs

Nancy's raspy voice in this song was caused by a bad cold. Her voice is normally beautifully clear.
i always liked If Looks Could Kill.
♥
Nancy had a cold when recording it. The record company wanted her to reproduce that crack on other songs but she couldn't do it later.
Magic Man is the First song I heard by them
The Wilson sisters.
I just found out they're in concert today in my city but the tickets are sold out 😭
Yep...I tried to get tickets a few weeks ago but no luck 😢

Nice job, T
She was actually sick during the recording of this song. That's why her voice is so raspy.
In a dream there is no time! that's why the clock has no hands of time,I wonder if she is just thinking about the future love of her life?
