- Hello everyone from Martijn's side of the mountain. Long time viewers of his will know: I'm Johannes, his neighbor to the south. As @MartijnDoolaard is going away on his winter break I would like to invite you to the other side - at least for a few weeks. For I'm not starting a new channel. I'm only releasing a limited run of 12 episodes to fulfill the promise I made in 2021 when I had seen the surprising positive reaction of @kirstendirksen's audience to my life. A second reason was added when in later similar interviews some viewers were disappointed that the shorter format necessarily truncated conversations and thoughts.
2023 was a good year for filming these episodes. Because this past year I actually had had a chance to be here at least some time every month - perfect to tell the story of One Year in the Life of a Part Time Hermit.

Ah, 'Into Great Silence'! I watched that film during my most intense Buddhism period and loved that sitting in the theatre was like going on a meditation retreat. I've thought of it often while bingeing Martijn's channel to keep my mind calm while my sister's life comes rockily to its end.

Exactly twenty years ago we celebrated Holy Eve church mass in the Friedenskapelle Malbun, you were our pastor. I still have happy memories of that.

Your contemplative nature, mixed with a healthy dose of humility and humor has intrigued me and I've often thought that a conversation with you combined with a long walk would be an interesting sort of exercise. When I learned that you were retracing a journey made by monks, I immediately thought of my own pipe dream of walking The Camino, or at least part of it. I had tried to access your pilgrimage movie but it was in German...I loved your visits over on the north side to help out--human verbal reference to the God who makes it all so beautiful and so possible is all that is lacking over there, and your presence brings and fulfills. I've always noticed that the longest and loudest laughter at Martijn's homestead usually occurs when you show up :0. External happiness usually flows from an internal source. Reciprocally I look forwards to Martijn's visits to your beautiful and steep homestead (love the chapel as well). Will definitely be watching these 12 episodes.

Though I am not of any faith, I am deeply spiritual and have, in the past, spent time with the Trappist Monks at Out Lady of Guadalupe at Carlton, Oregon, USA (also visited the "home" of Thomas Merton ("The Seven Story Mountain") at Trappist, Kentucky, USA). Congratulations on all the rewards, Johannes! It is proof that Germanische volk can have a sense of humor! Sorry, Johannes, that I have attracted some barnacles. I put my life on the line in Berlin in November 1989, when we rescued a girl who fell over into East Berlin at Brandenburger Tor.
He probably has humor because he is austrian and not german ;)
Has it occurred to you that your „sense of humor“ falls short?
@@doctorgadgetix4887 germanisch does stand for Germany, but for German speaking. And that includes therefore Germans, Austrians and Swiss
where did you get the uneducated idea, that das Germanische Volk does not have a sense of humor. Quite the opposite is the truth! And of course germanish does not stand for German only...
