Hi. Fr. Johannes here. Wow! You all have found such kind words about my hermitage and my life in the mountains. I assure you, it all looks better when Kirsten and Nicolas are holding the camera to it - but thankfully not too close :-) They make me look good - much like when they call me a "young priest" in the video title. For a 43 year old bolding guy with the first streaks of grey in his beard to be called „young“ might just be polite flattery, but I take it :-D Allow me to answer some of the questions that came up in the comments (some of them more than once). „Like“ to make this one-stop-reply more visible - or if you, Kirsten/Nicholas are reading this, maybe you want to make it a pinned comment) - electricity?: the previous owners connected the house to the grid when the opportunity presented itself some 30 or so years ago. The pole is visible in some shots on the right above the house. I don't know how much it costs to get connected, but if lines are nearby - in this case on the other side of the mountain - I think it is managable. - internet?: I use an antenna to augment the cell signal coming from the valley. It can be seen in the right hand corner of the balcony and works fine (most of the time). But it of course means that I watch youtube, and also Kirstin's inspiring videos, in 360p - water?: I'm connected to a spring that is further up the mountain. It used to be a communal spring that serviced also the houses on the other, northern side of the mountain. It was later (90s?) incorporated into the regional water works. It now is no longer free, but on the other hand if a leak occurs (about once a year) professionals set out to find and patch it. - diocesan hermit, how? possible?: I'm fortunate that my diocese (the Archdiocese of Vaduz, Liechtenstein) has many more priests than parishes, which makes it easier for the bishop to allow me to pursue life in a hermitage and going for „extra long walks“. Other than that, there is an actual provision in Canon law (§603) that properly regulates and recognizes diocesan hermits - garden skills: Not that many skills yet. I'm only beginning to dabble in permaculture. If my thumbs are a little green it is probably because of my Mom, who was patient even when I excarvated and removed 100 bulbs of Peonys to errect a crooked wooden shed as an 8 year old. It was then that I realized that plants need care and don't just pop up. But youtube and the permies forum have been great resources since. - my career? I don't get paid by the church as I currently don't work in a parish or in another official capacity. I also don't take donations (as others need them more than I do). I'm lucky that I get booked and paid for speaking tours for a few weeks in winter that revolve around my pilgrimages. Germany - and less so also Switzerland and Austria - outside Covid have a lively scene of travel festivals and events, where my usually somewhat humerous storys about Romanian sheep dogs, weird encounters in Armenia or despair in thunder storms on mountain passes find a few laughs and buyers of my books (available only in German so far). I hold retreats externally, occasionally help out in parishes and am guest professor for fundamental theolgy at a religious house of studies. All of this supplements my income and is certainly more than sufficient for a simple life. - cost?: So the price for the hut and 1.5 acres of land was 22.000 € (compared to renting a hut in Austria for 3 years which would have been basically the sam 18-21.000 €). When you buy in Italy you have to pay a fee to the agency (if it is not a private sale) that may be a % of the price or in the case of cheap buildings such as mine it would be a standard fee anywhere from 3-5000 €. Some costs for a notary (1000 €) will also likely be applicable. If you want to change the exterior or even some parts of the exterior, you'll need to hire a geometra/architect. These fees combined with the fees for building permissions will depend on what the changes are. - where to find such properties in Italy? I used „immobiliare dot it“ - instagram account? Yep. "4kmhpunktcom". I'm not very good at posting pics of my meals, but when I'm on the road I sometimes use it as a "short blog" - rocket mass heater video? Yes there is one on vimeo (search for Hermit’s Hot Hog) - but just a timelapse. In the description there you will however find a link to the bulletin board concerning the Vortex stove that is the design that I followed. - solar air collector? I use the solarventi sv14. Works fine for me. But it could be built much cheaper if you do it yourself - something I may do in the future. - can one just build whatever one wants? No, not in Italy. In Austria I would not even have been allowed to build the stove myself (or I would have needed a professional to inspect it and clear it for use). So you have to work with local regulations that may vary depending on where you are (I enlisted the help of a local geometra to sift through what I would be allowed to do. A great guy with expert knowledge of applicable laws who saved me from delving into burocracy myself and asked virtually nothing for his services. I certainly was lucky) - does the hermit have youtube channels? Yes. I have three: one with Theology and Philosophy in German ( ua-cam.com/users/kathmediaDeutsch ), one for hiking videos ( ua-cam.com/channels/Am0XitO95k9UsmlXMtHloA.html ) and an old one that has many languages ( ua-cam.com/users/donjojohannesfeatured ) I do not have one vlogging about daily life and don't plan one. I plan a few silent (no words) episodes about life here in the mountains (12 episodes, one for each month of the year) but that will not happen for a while, as I hope to be on a pilgrimage again next year (Via Columbani from Ireland to Italy). - earthquakes? In this particular part of the alps getting anything above a 4 is exceptionally rare. I have witnessed 4.1 a few years ago. No worries. - english language content? Some of you have left comments on my German language channel asking if there was any English speaking content available. There is an hour long English language podcast about my alpine pilgrimage here: ua-cam.com/video/KWmZtfsfWt0/v-deo.html And then there are 2 feature length films about 2 pilgrimages I did that can be found here: www.reelhouse.org/birettballett . For the Via Alpina Sacra you can use "MONT-THABOR" as coupon code on checkout to watch it for free - no credit card necessary (you can use a junk email when registering to the site). It has some subtitles but the longer speaking parts are in English. For the Jerusalem film you can use the coupon code "4kmh-give-if-you-can". If instead you decide to pay or donate for those films, the money does not go to me but to the causes listed there. Thanks again everyone for the kind words. „Like“ the comment to make it more visible for othersif you found it useful.
What a typically perfect bit of great information! You are VERY well-spoken (among ALL of the other things!). I am PROUD of you and wish I could attend holy Mass with you! I LOVE your artwork in the chapel and love the way you call it the “center” of everything! I know you pray for all of us! Please say a special prayer for me and my precious husband and his fight with cancer! God bless you, Kristen and her dear family! My FAVORITE UA-cam video EVER also!!!!❤️🙏🙏🙏👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
What a very thoughtful thing for you to do. Taking time to spell out answers to various questions is a really considerate. I spend most of my time in a small home on a lake in the states. I'm always working on various projects to stay busy so much of this relates. For example, harvesting stones for weeks in the forest building an outdoor fireplace. I will say, that gardening is my weak spot. You've given me extra encouragement to venture into this, if only I can create a sunny spot on my heavily wooded property. Thank you and God Bless.
I commented before I read all the comments, but I have so enjoyed your most inspirational tour of your house and garden. Bless you! Did you have help to build, and how long did the restoration take?, an
@@susanyates4233 Hi Susan. Good Question. In fact, maybe you noticed that in the video I use „we...“ a few times when speaking of the renovation. Kirsten just had to edit my long ramblings and that part where I mentioned different people who helped ended up on the cutting room floor for brevity. A few young men (former altar servers from my old parish), three of whom work in construction now, wanted to help and they visited for a day with one of the dads (owner of a construction company). That was a big help - also because they brought professional tools I don't own (like a diamond core drill for one of the walls that received the solar air heater). They dug out the earth floor in the pantry/bath/shower room; put up insolating plaster behind where the shower now is; opened up the ceiling from the ground to the top floor for the stairs; cast the bottom section of the stairs. A neighbor with a tractor helped me bring up the wood for the interior. Local builders opened the hole for the door to the bathroom area, because it had to be done to code (steel beams all around), and a local building material company brought the stuff I ordered (like the wood fibre insolation and fire bricks for the stove...) with their special narrow and short 4x4 "truck" that was made for gnarly roads as the one leading to my place (and which my car cannot manage. A Suziki Jimny or an old Fiat Panda from the 80s would be ideal. But I don't have one of those). Lastly my dad came out for a few days from Austria and helped me with plumbing. I think that is it. I started renovation in April 2016 but until July I still had to work in Austria so I could only come for a week or two at a time. From the middle of July until the middle of September I think I was pretty much done with everything. So after 3 months it was livable (though I had been living there from day 1). Mind you, the roof was ok as were the walls, I had water and electricity (though both needed to be modified for the new layout), so I was not renovating a ruin. Now the oratory initially had a temporary altar piece for quite some time and I only started on the garden and the exterior later. I'm still building and working on things. Since Kirsten was here, I've been working on two ponds for water storage (garden) and microclimates (one of them above the house). I'm also trying to create a winter greenhouse/sunroom for passive solar by modular and removable structures (to comply with bulding regulations) with acryllic glass under the balcony (and for the top section of the balcony on the right). So I'm replacing the metal fencing of the balcony with a more traditional one in chestnut wood but a way to fasten the glass panels. Also the floor of the balcony needs to be replaced. So there is always something. It is a good counter balance to much of the work I have to do at the computer. And there is no rush.
To everyone adoring this man: You are absolutely right. He was my religion teacher in primary school and I would still describe him as one of my most genuine, caring and fun teachers of all time. I'm incredibly happy to see that he is enjoying life so much.
I've been watching Martijn Doolaard's (this priest's neighbor) home building videos so it is a real special treat to get a full home and garden tour! Very inspiring!
Hey Lili! I just watched Martijn Dooland's first video and UA-cam was showing this in my feed (I had already subscribed to Kirsten's channel some time ago) for the past week or two, so I finally checked it out and easily connected them as neighbors. So happy for them both. I know what it's like to live the rural life and have a long distance between neighbors. It's always nice to have ones you can easily get along with.
Johannes is such a kind, humble, intelligent, helpful and unique human being. I’ve seen him on the channel of Martijn Doolaard. He saved Martjins tent after a big snow storm and repaired it. He is the best neighbor you could wish for. Many blessings to him and his pure soul.
I too “met” him via Martijn’s channel. It is so good to learn more about him. He recently visited the city where my daughter lives and had I known he was there I would’ve made a trip to meet him in person.
This man is sooo full of the Holy Spirit, so hard working, intelligent, funny, humble, excellent language skills, and the list goes on. A soul full of light 🙏
What a delightful priest. He's a Jack of all Trades and a Master at all of them! Incredible what he has accomplished. Such a fascinating and interesting person. He has an easy way about him, I could sit and listen to him for hours. Thank you for sharing this great video.
@@frankpohl4377 It was easy to research. How is the Vatican funded? The economy of Vatican City is supported financially by the sale of stamps, coins, medals, and tourist mementos as well as fees for admission to museums and publication sales. ... The Vatican City issues its own coins and stamps. The Vatican's most important source of ready cash is made up of donations from parishes across the globe. The money is spent on humanitarian projects, including disaster relief, medical aid, and help to the poor in developing nations, children, and refugees. If I remember it correctly there was a huge uproar in Italy for the Vatican paying no tax, I think they repaid 5 of the 7 million tax back already. Although priests earn a modest salary, much of their income is earned through housing allowances, stipends, bonuses, and other benefits. These benefits are often provided by the church or parish to support the spiritual development of their community. To make a long story short, no taxpayer is involved.
I can't even describe how and why this is my favorite episode of all time thus far. It just is. When you witness somebody like this priest who knows how to live the good life, then you have hope for yourself. Great work!
There's something attractive about the simple life.. with all these small projects to keep you busy. And the mean battlestation of a computer he still keeps upstairs :D its a beautiful life he's living :)
It is so nice to see a positive video about a Priest. He is clearly a very talented man and has a very strong spirit of kindness about him that even comes through via a video. That is a beautiful thing.
The chapel is indeed beautiful, though I've got to say that if I lived there I'd turn it into a library. Even if I were religious I think I'd still find the view through plain glass onto the mountainside more inspiring than all or most of the stained glass. Horses for courses, I suppose.
Dear Kirsten, I am every time mesmerized by your videos, but this one has taken the prize! As a catholic priest, I am inspired by Father Johanne’s life as a hermit. Thank you and your family’s kindness and respectful approach to his lifestyle. Inspiring indeed! Keep up the good work, and blessings on you and your family.
@@kathmediaDeutsch thank you Father Johannes, I just finished watching “To where God dwells”. Vía Alpina Sacra is next. God’s abundant blessings on you during this most sacred season!
I can't believe how clean is the house, how well maintained is the garden, and so much he knows about growing food and building. He made that place a heaven.
It's so hard not to smile at what a beautiful hermitage he's built. It incorporates the history of the area, his personal knowledge, his goals, etc, etc. This space is enriched by his presence.
Jesus said, "First look st the block of wood in ur own eye before u look at the speck of wood in ur neighbour's eye". We have MANY wonderful, kind, Priests in the Catholic Church!
Ditzy.52 Forgive me, but do we, one bad apple can spoil the bunch, the Catholic Church has a whole bunch of bad apples, in n.y.c, the repercussions of all these child abuse cases has caused many closings of schools as well as churches. I love being a catholic, and am very proud to be one, but by casting a blind eye to heinous abuse no matter who committed them is just as bad. There are some very good, and humble priests, but it’s been my experience that a lot, and l mean a lot, are pompous, power seeking fools,. I think Jesus, our Lord, isn’t happy about this.
@@thomashowlin4353 😔 it's a shame that some Catholic priests are sexual perverts - We need a good traditional Pope to start a holy order dedicated to rooting out all sexual perverts, Masons and moral degenerates within the Church. But not all Catholic priests are wicked many of them are God fearing men filled with the Holy Spirit. Pray for the Church! 🙏
This is so amazing. That part where he built all the terraces and says "I have no gym..." the things we can do if we put time and effort in is amazing.
This is the best video I have ever seen . The austerity of his life and the silence makes this priest’s life conducive to prayer. The outside world does not encroach unless he wishes it.Thank you for making this video available. Greetings from Ireland.
Bridie he is a great priest a true Catholic priest I think God is calling these young men for the time we are now living in. God bless you and yours. Mother and refuge of the end times is a good channel
@@frankpohl4377 check facts; no taxpayers are supporting him. Also, the Vatican is not supporting him. He's SELF supporting, by the grace of God. you watched, which means this: you're seeking grace. Don't worry, God is seeking you, and he'll give you peace. On your 'to do' list, maybe pay this priest a personal visit.
There wouldn't have been any one of those luxuries on Skellig Michael, that for sure! Monks back through the centuries were hard as the place they lived in.
Your tiny chapel is so pure and beautiful. No one thinks of a hermit being chatty, as you are. Wonderful lessons on micro climates etc. . 🕊 Pray for us, and. please watch your step. Goodness that is really steep.
I have seen barly 5 minutes of this video. And I can already tell you that I genuinly love this man. The way he interacts with the children... The way he seeks quiteness.... I love this man.
Greetings from London. I love this man. A good human and a good priest, of which there are many in my experience. Far more than the bad which seems to get all the publicity. Thanks for this lovely video.
So glad I found this ! Was just watching Johannes helping another neighbour who has been renovating two stone cabins - such an amazing and inspiring story there too - he’s wonderfully generous, very strong and great sense of humour. I didn’t realise he’s a Friar. Love what did in his home and beautiful place of prayer. Another incredibly hard working, inspirational and creative person.
AHHH! I thought it was the same guy! I have been enjoying Martijn Doolaard's channel as of late and thought it might be the same guy that's been helping him but wasn't sure. I'm so happy I found all these people. Gives me hope for our future.
What a cool place. The amount one person can do if they do a little everyday is always impressive. What a beautiful location. I wish more people old bring these ruins back to life. A mix of modern and subsistence lifestyle seems to be an amazing way to live.
Seriously, working 9-5 , whatever i am doing or did so far ,feel so meaningless. I wish one day i will also have farm. The priest is so loving and what example of what a single handily one can do. Also great example of living life happily alone , how much one can create in such a difficult situation.
@@pravinasakhare5572 keep you eye out for an opportunity...it may cross your path someday....try to save up so that your ready when it does....at least that's what I tell myself.
I love this place. He's definitely talented. I have noticed that most people appearing in these type of projects are incredibly talented. Most very artistic and very sociable once they meet people, they just seem to keep away from the noise to get inspiration. Quiet is peace.
What a lovely person Fr. Johannes is! What he has done with that place is amazing to say the least. Johannes, if you read this, greetings from Iceland and I wish you all the best.
I dunno why but it made me cry seeing how beautiful his chapel is and knowing that he built it himself plus painted it as well, I’m just in awe how he was able to use well his God-given talent and skills. He is such a based hermit priest. May God bless you Fr. Johannes!
One of the most beautiful documentaries I have ever seen. He has "birthed" so much beauty and abundance from such austerity. Father Johannes' kindness (the lizards!), great depth and intelligence are treasures to behold.. And I feel so much joy radiating from him. Thank you so much for allowing me to meet this exceptional being.
What a beautiful home and property, and the alter he painted in his prayer room is stunning. Fr Johannes is a beautiful man. Such a kind soul. The comment he left here for other viewers was remarkable. God bless him and you Kirsten for introducing him to us.
I’m addicted to these kinds of videos. I have to say this one touched my soul. It’s definitely the best experience watching I have ever had. It leaves me humbled.
What a beautiful, hard working, talented man! Not to mention, this is the first video where I've seen someone take notice of the kids and care that they enjoyed themselves!
For the first time in my life, I now know where the term “breathtaking” comes from. I literally can’t breathe at the inner beauty and strength of this man. I hope and prey that one day I’ll meet someone like you.
I was watching another person rebuilding a place just over the other side of this mountain and he visited Johannes for a brief bit. Entrancing folks, both of them, but Johannes strikes a chord within me with his philosophy and down to earth honesty and humility. Thank you for this episode of a worthy man and his work.
I,too, saw the other gentleman who seems to be a master at creating a beautiful place out of austerity. I am disabled and would love to be able to work to make a successful life from rock and plants and sweat, and prayer, too. I am living vicariously through these two guys that are accomplishing life from almost nothing. Such a blessing!
What a warm, friendly and hospitable man he is! I can see why everything he touches prospers so well! Beautiful and cozy home he has. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼🌸🕊
Loved this story! He is a beautiful soul, and everything he touches is an extension of that- even the lizard homes! That was eclectically precious (if that's such a word!). There is love just oozing from tbis homestead.🦋
He’s adorable! So much knowledge on gardening!!! My someday dream: to garden… But, my absolute favorite thing (aside from his beautiful home & outdoor area) was the attention to the lizards!!! Nothing is more beautiful than compassion!
Same here - that was absolutely charming. He has such a great sense of humor. I love the lizards in my limestone walls, and have fun in the summer feeding them with grubs and bugs on the end of a little bamboo pole. Each one has different markings and a different personality.
I have a couple little bluetailed luzards living under our concrete steps which has a hole or broken piece off the step. I asked my husband not to repair it because the little lizards live there and it is not a safety issue. So I understand! 🙂❤
Your someday dream can start now. Find a plant/vegetable/flower that interests you in some way (Does it have a strong smell? Pretty blossom? Can you cook with it?). Get some soil and a pot with small drainage holes on the bottom. Place your plant outside on a terrace, or inside in a place you will see it and not forget about it. Learn about the type of plant online, or ask a nursery garden worker. Your dream can be now!
Fascinating. Fr. Johannes' self-sufficiency is admirable. He has some serious building skills. Truly a man of the mountains. So adaptable. So ingenious. I believe that work can be a form of worship He lives that and then there is also his home office. The chapel is amazing. The garden terracing is fabulous.
Like everyone else, I was so charmed by this fellow -- the little labelled lizard houses melted my heart. You have brought us to so many interesting people and different ways they live, Kristen -- with beautiful cinematography and the additional charm and sweetness of your family. I find myself wondering what your children will do when they grow up. You and your husband have given them such an immense and interesting life/education. I hope someday we hear about what they get up too. Thank you so much for your work.

If anything, the modest priest in the video could potentially get some of the viewers interested in his religion and the idea of God, because he radiates with goodness and authenticity, and not even for a moment he tried to give lecture on God or what one should do. What’s captivating about this video is the man. So smart, brilliant really, yet speaks in ways we can all understand. He’s isolated yet current, with a gentle sense of humor and manner that puts everyone at ease.
Really fantastic! You see a lot of singular folk redoing places/ruins but this was somehow really amazing. Father Johannes is really inventive, pulling inspiration from a few disciplines and self-reliant, but in a very practical way. He doesn't make more work for himself than he needs. His mountain side farming is an interesting lab on what to grow at those heights! Thanks for letting us see his story!
I believe YT suggested your video because I’d already met Johannes through his new neighbor, Martijn Doolard. I’ve been following Martijn since May, tracking the remodel of his cabin, other side of the mountain.
OK, he's a priest and wanted to make a life, so he had to do a lot of things, etc. but there's something about him. He's not a regular person. He does everything and does them well with such eclectic creativity and precision. This is not a regular guy. He's obviously some kind of hugely talented genius.
What a gorgeous place, and what a wonderful person. It is such a joyful and relaxing video to watch, if you are here and reading the comments go ahead and watch the video.
Father Johannes, I’m a 85 year old newborn learning day by day how to live in God’s Divine Will. You are in my continuous prayers as I was brought to you by the Holy Spirit 12/27 on the feast of the Beloved St. John. I’m a Benedictine Oblate connected spiritually with the Benedictine Daughters of the Divine Will in whose monastery is in Talamello. My earthly home is at 7,000 feet in Flagstaff Arizona USA. What a great good the Internet is able to keep us all physically connected. FIAT VOLUNTAS TUA
For the time being this will top my list of your must-see videos (it's on you to outperform it!). I've partly achieved such a life, though had to back off a little for age/illness. Enjoy seeing the kids. Blessings on your family and the priest for sharing.
I am in awe of this Priest. He is amazing! His talents and abilities are never ending. His house is adorable. The chapel blew me away. He is such a sociable and charming gentleman. Truly an inspiration. Would love to visit this place and talk to him for hours walking through nature. This episode was a joy to watch!
This is an amazing young Priest! It has been an honor to watch this video and meet him. I wish I could know him personally - what an enrichment that would be. Thank you for sharing.
What an amazing man who built an amazing home and garden. He could teach others how to live like this. A place where no one would think possible in todays modern world.🇨🇦
Kirsten, Johannes has got an incredible sense of humour!!! If I was going to find a place to live alone in tranquility, he would have a new neighbour about 100 metres away. What a beautiful home. He truly has a romantic side to him, but not in the way most people would think reading this comment. His romantic side is one of true love of life, which can be seen in how much life he has given the Hermitage and his home. Truly an inspirational man! If I am to ever get to the Italian Alps again, I'll look him up...it would be great to bring him some supplies he was needing, just to sit with him for a short time and become friends. Thank You Kirsten for such an uplifting video. Keep Safe Always, Matt - Toronto, Canada
A wonderful, practical, delightful, happy land created by Priest Johannes. So full of clever ideas. Inspiring! Merci beaucoup! So glad that Kirsten and family found you and made this beautiful video to show to everybody in the world your magnificent "labor of love". Bless you Priest Johannes.
This dude is epic. As someone who studied in seminary for 4 years and then have started moving away from Christianity, Johannes reminds me of all the kindhearted and selfless people I met - and I needed that reminder. Also, Martjn's story is really cool and I didn't realize they were neighbors!
Wow! I would love to meet this man. He is full of knowledge, willing to share it, devoting his life to the purpose he found, growing his own food on high elevation and not to mention his lovely sense of humor. Kudos and hats off. He lives an ideal life, if you ask me and many others. Thank you for featuring him!
Truly a monastic life ! I am Catholic and give him great credit for following a deeply spiritual life of simplicity and wish him the very best as he continues to live his wonderously magnificent life. No, very, very few are called to this life but he is to be admired and respected. Blessings, Father🙏
Major kudos for this man's way of life. His talent, his sincerity, his work ethic and his erudition are all impressive. The ultimate rationale for monasticism is that it benefits the world. His life has benefitted me in the vicarious experience it provides me! The art, building craft, and horticulture demonstrated here are impressive. As to the oratory (chapel) I would say that he has achieved transcendent architecture in an intimate space. Clearly, the spirit does not need soaring Gothic scale to achieve an environment that promotes prayerful aspiration.
What an amazing individual his whole outlook on everything he talked about was unbelievably positive fresh and intoxicating What a personality how he dealt with the children was unbelievable I never thought I would think I would want a hermit for a neighbor
I'm Traditional Catholic so this Priest is right up my alley. I only attend the Tridentine Rite. His amazing painting of the Icons is incredible. He needs to build a little larger chapel because people are going to search him out for the Mass. The Tridentine Rite is the closest thing to Heaven on earth, and this hermit is getting the best of both worlds. Notice his easy going manner and his peaceful countenance. He's obviously very close to God and so attuned to nature that nature seems to bow to him. Beautiful!
I have tried the trindentine mass and I just cannot connect. I speak Italian so it's not for lack of comprehending. I have found some of the priests doing the mass severe and haughty! I'll keep trying because I love to sing traditional latin hymns. My overall impression is still negative! I love Latin hymns and I also love contemporary praise and worship and I feel I can worship better with a language I use everyday for evertything! God does not care as long as we praise and worship and enter his loving presence! I don't think!
@@ivancassar1239 Keep searching for the right Church which offers the Mass. If the Priest isn't valid or Holy it makes a huge difference. Priest are human and personality isn't essential for doing God's work. His Heart is what God seeks and desires. Read the Cure d'Ars by Abbe Trochu. Beautiful life of a beautiful Priest. Look for an Italian Latin Missal. It's really a no brainer.
Thank you, Kirsten and your husband and beautiful children, for bringing us to visit Father Johannes in the Italian Alps on his permaculture farm. Your chapel is so lovingly made and beautiful, Father.
I don't know which one to admire more: the home, the man, or the beautiful scenery. Everything is splendid and life-affirming. Thank you for this wonderful video.
Thank you, Johannes, I found your channel through Martian’s episode 97. I am so thrilled to learn about your life and story and to experience your exquisite channel. The stillness along with your filmmaking and spirituality was pure exhilaration. Thank you!
"You can draw people but the wold is usually better in being the world than the church could ever be. The church can just try to imitate the world but it's a weak imitation and it's not interesting" That truly captures this Young priest's mindset and what's in his heart.
Everything about that house and property was amazing! He is definitely living a life that many people dream of. I would love to live there. Thank you so much for going there and making this video!!!
How can one man know how to do so many things? His breadth of knowledge about random topics is so impressive. His eccentricity is so refreshing. It’s like all these random ideas coalesce into something so profound and beautiful.
to repeat what all the others have said - what a talented person in many ways - and I, also, would have only dreamed about living like this. Thank you so much for the opportunity to visit this special man!!
What a lovely, lovely person. Such a kind and likeable personality. His place is awesome. So homey. One of the best I have seen yet on here. I could totally live like this and be content until I die.
Wow, incredible skills in making your house and hermitage a welcoming place. I couldn't believe it when yet again, you put your skills to drawing and painting a tableau for the oratory
Hi. „Like“ to make this one-stop-reply more visible - or if you, Kirsten/Nicholas are reading this, maybe you want to make it a pinned comment)
- electricity?: the previous owners connected the house to the grid when the opportunity presented itself some 30 or so years ago.
But it of course means that I watch youtube, and also Kirstin's inspiring videos, in 360p
- water?: I'm connected to a spring that is further up the mountain.
Other than that, there is an actual provision in Canon law (§603) that properly regulates and recognizes diocesan hermits
- garden skills: Not that many skills yet.
I used „immobiliare dot it“
- instagram account? Yep. "4kmhpunktcom". I'm not very good at posting pics of my meals, but when I'm on the road I sometimes use it as a "short blog"
- rocket mass heater video?
I certainly was lucky)
- does the hermit have youtube channels?
„Like“ the comment to make it more visible for othersif you found it useful.
thanks

What a very thoughtful thing for you to do. Taking time to spell out answers to various questions is a really considerate. I spend most of my time in a small home on a lake in the states. I'm always working on various projects to stay busy so much of this relates. For example, harvesting stones for weeks in the forest building an outdoor fireplace. I will say, that gardening is my weak spot. You've given me extra encouragement to venture into this, if only I can create a sunny spot on my heavily wooded property. Thank you and God Bless.

That explains why he is so good with the children 😊
I saw how attentive he was with the children and really engaging them with little bits of info for the brain and the soul...you were blessed indeed.
Oh so great to hear from someone who knows him!

Und ich, habe seinen Buch gelesen wie er zu Fuss nach Jerusalem gelaufen ist und bei seinem Vortrag in der Kirche in Luzern war ich auch dabei.
I wondered if they were in the same place. The greenhouse looked familiar :)
Same here. It’s so nice to see this after seeing him in Martijin’s videos. Does Johannes have his own channel. I would find it most interesting.

He is the best neighbor you could wish for.
Many blessings to him and his pure soul.
Thanks for the confirm. He looked like, but I wasn't sure if he was the same person Martjin knew.
I too “met” him via Martijn’s channel. It is so good to learn more about him. He recently visited the city where my daughter lives and had I known he was there I would’ve made a trip to meet him in person.

Wow! This is truly impressive and the priest's enthusiasm is so wonderful. He is truly gifted, that chapel is beautifully divine.

Your someday dream can start now. Find a plant/vegetable/flower that interests you in some way (Does it have a strong smell? Pretty blossom? Can you cook with it?). YOU WILL BE WEEPING IN TERROR REALIZING YOU MADE A BIG MISTAKE. YOU WONT WIN AN ARGUMENT WITH GOD, HE CREATED EVERYTHING!!!
GOD SEES EVERYTHING YOUVE EVER DONE; YOU WONT FOOL HIM!!!
OR
PUT YOUR TRUST IN JESUS WHO DIED ON THE CROSS AND TOOK THE WRATH OF GOD IN OUR PLACE FOR OUR SINS. IT'S A FREE GIFT BUT HE CANT FORCE YOU TO TAKE IT. WILL YOU CALL UPON HIM NOW AND SURRENDER TO HIM. TALK TO HIM LIKE A BEST FRIEND, HE'S WAITING AND HE LOVES YOU.
hell is the absence of God Almighty who gives us the breath in our lungs, water, food,
sunshine, love, kindness, patience, faithfulness, hope, rest, help etc.
hell is real and its a place of torment:
you will have to live with all your mistakes, regrets, you will feel all the pain you caused others...
you be hungry but not be able to eat
you will be thirsty but wont be able to drink
you will be tired but cant sleep
you will have no hope
you will have no rest
you will feel pure hatred towards you (satan and the fallen angels/demons hate you and want to drag you to hell)
“For the wages of sin is death (hell), but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” -Romans 6:23
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."-John 14:6
"But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven."-Matthew 10:33
@@JESUSCHRIST-ONLYWAYTOHEAVEN The easiest was to tell when someone shouldn't be easily believed is when he claims he just knows everything, a fragile creature mere dust in the infinite universe but he's got it all figured out, dares to claim he actually knows what God thinks/feels/requires, gained all the knowledge and wisdom to be discovered, and especially when he uses caps and tells you the end is nigh.
If anything, the modest priest in the video could potentially get some of the viewers interested in his religion and the idea of God, because he radiates with goodness and authenticity, and not even for a moment he tried to give lecture on God or what one should do. He doesn't spam with words like you do, he just shows his way of living and interacting with others.
You, however, do quite the opposite, and the effect of your action would do anything but invite someone to seek God. So, in the end, this priest's chance to appear on a completely secular channel and maybe "smuggle" a tiny bit of his faith in a subtle non-intrusive way for someone maybe seeking is then immediately disrupted with a delusional, fear-mongering fanatic, so typically dropping certain Bible verses to appear more credible...
@@transporterjp1406 I'm not offended by the Truth of Scripture
@@lyndaz.3298 I have nothing against Bible, I do read it myself, and it is for people to open it, read it, and discover it by themselves, each of them in own way using own mind/heart.
I only have problem will those who exploit it this way, playing enlightened prophets...
Fr. Johannes is incredible! Everything you do is so well thought out and thoughtful. You make me feel better about life. God Bless.
Just Amazing🙏 Thank you for inviting “us” into your hermitage and sharing your enthusiasm with us. God Bless You🙏
My goodness, what a talented man!! He even painted the altar piece and it looks like a professional did it. Beautiful area and love the cozy house.
I have love and admiration for this kind soul. Thankyou for the introduction.
He's obviously some kind of hugely talented genius.
yes, hugely talented genius.
Yes. The same thing occurred to me.
With the talent and commitment to share and communicate his insights and reflections. Yes, that's a special gift.
Agree. There's something about him.
He has God inside, that is why he is a genius!
What a delightful video🥰 Thank you so much ! This priest seems a wonderful person, so knowledgeable and pleasant to listen to, what a treat ❤️
What a gorgeous place, and what a wonderful person.
It is such a joyful and relaxing video to watch, if you are here and reading the comments go ahead and watch the video.
I will watch it again. So well worth it.
Father Johannes,
I’m a 85 year old newborn learning day by day how to live in God’s Divine Will.
God Bless you Father Schwarz. What an amazing opportunity for a young priest. Beautiful chapel, art, home and location.

WOW! What an amazing person! Thanks Johannes for sharing your incredible journey and lifestyle. Wishing you good health and many years of joy!
This is an amazing young Priest! It has been an honor to watch this video and meet him. I wish I could know him personally - what an enrichment that would be. Thank you for sharing.
What a fantastic place and a wonderful man, I would love to attend Mass in his little chapel. ❤
What an amazing man who built an amazing home and garden. He could teach others how to live like this. A place where no one would think possible in todays modern world.🇨🇦
Kirsten,
Johannes has got an incredible sense of humour!!!
Keep Safe Always,
Matt - Toronto, Canada
I admire this very hard-working priest.
What a great story and great location. You found a real gem on this one Kirsten.
Truly a monastic life ! I am Catholic and give him great credit for following a deeply spiritual life of simplicity and wish him the very best as he continues to live his wonderously magnificent life. No, very, very few are called to this life but he is to be admired and respected. Blessings, Father🙏
I loved this when it first came out and love it again now. Thank you
Fr. Johannes, you are surely one of God's true treasures. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
Dale Couch. So well expressed👍🙏🇦🇺
That was FANTASTIC . What a beautiful adventure for the children .
What an amazing individual
his whole outlook on everything he talked about
was unbelievably positive fresh and intoxicating
What a personality
how he dealt with the children was unbelievable
I never thought I would think I would want a hermit for a neighbor
Very smart intelligent guy! How interesting of a life style he's comfortable in it!
Such a genius in using materials available to create a masterpiece of home & living.
the energy level of this fellow seems miraculous !
also he seems incredibly intelligent !
and his spirit of industry is amazing !
I am so thankful when someone redacted exactly what I was feeling trow the video, but I am not that fluid at English. Thank you and you are so right.
How can I follow him I go to TLM in USA ?
@@darrylthehorntoadpiper Explain your question a little more thoroughly please. Are you serious?
I’m so impressed with what this clever priest has done with this property. He spends his days working the land, building, renovating and praying.
Thank you, Kirsten and your husband and beautiful children, for bringing us to visit Father Johannes in the Italian Alps on his permaculture farm. Your chapel is so lovingly made and beautiful, Father.
I absolutely love this one, I think it was that wonderful man more than anything else. thanks for sharing. 😃😃😃
What an amazing talented man. He's so creative and productive, I'm very impressed with what he's done there! Ty for sharing him with us all😊💝
The garden fascinates me. Amazing how he is producing so much food on such a steep site. He's so good with the kids, too. What a charming video.
I love his hospitality...getting the children settled with a snack before doing the tour!
The church can just try to imitate the world but it's a weak imitation and it's not interesting"
That truly captures this Young priest's mindset and what's in his heart.
What an awesome guy ! Love his humor and knowledge of nature and homesteading.
He filled my heart with every good feeling. He embodies everything beautiful, kind, wise and intelligent. Thank you for introducing him to us.❤️♾
Everything about that house and property was amazing!
For being such a hermit it’s a pretty classy place
to repeat what all the others have said - what a talented person in many ways - and I, also, would have only dreamed about living like this. Thank you so much for the opportunity to visit this special man!!
What a lovely, lovely person.
Such a kind and likeable personality.
His place is awesome.
So homey.
One of the best I have seen yet on here.
I could totally live like this and be content until I die.
What an inspiration; such a strong person; mentally, physically and spiritually.
I cannot find the words to describe how I felt watching this. I feel as if I have been in the presence of an extremely special man.
Wow, incredible skills in making your house and hermitage a welcoming place. I couldn't believe it when yet again, you put your skills to drawing and painting a tableau for the oratory
this was amazing! the amount of things this guy knows and that I wish I knew!! now googling about microclimates, despite not having a garden :)
Everything is a microcosm of something greater...
Not having a garden Yet.. :)
