If your playing a Wizard, I suggest picking the recommended fire spells as you will get a healing spell no matter what (though if we ever get Wizards of Morcar re-released, I'd might try out the spells of Darkness instead). If your mean & take the elfs recommend earth spells away from them, the elf could just take water & get the other heal anyway. Although the Genie in air may seem tempting as it's a wizards big gun spell, id personally rather have the 2 attack spells from fire then have only one big gun as a Wizard is not allowed to use a crossbow (let the elf buy themself a crossbow if they want range attack's) If there is no elf or if the elf chooses elf spells from Mage of the Mirror, I'm generally going to take Fire, Water, & Earth as there is no way im leaving a heal spell out of the game. As for Spells of Detection & Protection from Wizards of Morcar, I don't have actual experience with them but just previewing them I wouldn't take Spells of Detection. Being greedy & using the spell that lets you draw 3 treasure cards that you have to take instead of the 1 treasure card you would get from normal searching just sounds to me like your trying to get yourself killed as a wizard.
Absolutely loving these videos. Heroquest started everything for me many years ago!

I will never forget when a gargoyle killed a full health wiz in 1 hit.
Horrifically glorious.
Might be far more glorifying when the Wizard one-shot the Gargoyle by casting the Genie spell.
HeroQuest is great.
