  • Always there’s something or the other wrong with it. Until you replace it with better quality parts, it just doesn’t seem to work. I can understand on the Indian roads its probably fine, but UK road’s definitely needs to be decent also RE needs to help people out, I have had no help from RE dispute all the emails and requesting help.

I agree with the quality issues. Speedometer sensor gone in few months after delivery. A new problem every few months - fuel leaking from tank cap, rear break not working. Luckily I didn’t face the wobble issue. But recently crashed as the front wheel locked up due to abs fail. Escaped with little injury as I was wearing proper riding gear. The headlight stops working sometimes. Despite well pampering in Indian dirt conditions with regular cleaning, liqui moly engine, dna air filter cleaning, brake caliper cleaning this keeps frustrating with every other issue. This is complete unreliable machine. Others can have different opinion based on their viewpoint. But I will never buy a RE again. This turned out to be waste of money from a value buy. I would just keep this for memories instead of selling it.

That happens when someone with the attitude of a spoiled car driver buys a cheap retro bike and complains about it as if there was a quality standard of a 10.000 Euro bike to be expected. Complaining about cheap tires on a cheap bike, about a loud exhaust and poor braking which he could have known when doing a test ride, about a cable touching the tank which he could fix easily by himself, and about some paint problems which could have been caused by his inappropriate way of cleaning the bike as he shows in the video, all that is not reason enough to advise against buying this type of motorcycle. In contrast to this one judgement which I find absolutely not qualified there are thousands of enthusiastic fans of the bike out there who are very happy with it.

I know people who have spent a fortune on more premium priced bikes and they change the exhaust, indicators, de-cat the pipes and often swap the stock tyres so the changes you suggest apply no matter how much you spend. As a basic bike these work well and offer a great platform to customise from a low initial outlay. It's a shame you've had the quality issues around the wheels. My GT is nearly two years old and not had any of the problems you've encountered.

mate, half of your complains are BS. Lack of power? testride before buy, 47 hp at 215 kg is more than ok for a 650 retro bike.. Horrible indicator lights? they are golden standard, I am not telling they are awesome, but they ok. What your experienced was not a wheel truing problem, just a wrong balanced tyre, or you lost a weight. A broken cable can happen in every price range, its not just an RE problem. The bike is absolutely rideable out of the box, no NEED for changes, but if you want its a blank canvas. And to crash a bike on this lane, mate you don't need a stronger bike ;-)

I own a continental 650, had it almost a year and I just did the 10,000km service on it. Seems like your being a bit hard on the bike but it also seems you have had some bad luck with yours, that cable I can tell just by l looking at it, its been routed wrong and that cable is stressed, it should not have come from the factory that way and the dealer should have caught that, cables need smooth curves when routed through the bike for them to last, sharp turns on a cable will break them in no time. The paint issue on the back wheel would piss me right off if that happened with in 6 years so I feel for you. That been said I disagree with you about the Tires, Breaks and suspension. just to qualify myself I have been riding for 50 years, I owned the very first year Ninja 900 and the very first year GSXR 1100, plus Yamaha RZ500's, Yamaha RD's, Honda VTR's and RC51 and a number of others in between. I do hear a lot of people ripping on the Suspension on the Royal 650's. I'm no Eddy Lawson or Rossi or anything but to me the suspension is fine, it is what it is supposed to be, same with the brakes I have no problem with them and the wife and I ride the bike with both of us on it and I ride it as fast as that little bike will go, It always stops when I need it too. I have CEAT tires on my bike, CEAT is not a known brand in Canada, I never knew very much about them when I got the bike and I was going to change them right away, however I have 10,000kms on them and they are not bad at least not to me but I never ride in the rain. Ya know the bike is exactly what its supposed to be a Retro bike, not a modern classic. I think you probably should have bought a modern classic like the Kawasaki K650rs. You talked about power or lack there of I think, the Royal Enfield was not designed to be fast, it was designed to be exactly what it is, a Retro bike, a bike that is as close to the real 1960s motorcycle that it can be and it is just that, not a modern bike trying to look like a classic bike, such as the Kawi z650 or 900rs, or the Suzi Katana or them fugly Yamaha's they are calling modern classics. I know with some of the Royal 650's there has been some questionable quality issues, too much grease in the relays, wheel Truing, blablabla and I fortunately have not experienced any of those problem, one of the lucky ones I guess. My friend I hope this works out for you and you get that cable replaced. The 650s are not a modern bike and they are not perfect and they were not meant to be, they are exactly what they were designed to be, a retro motorcycle. Get the bike sorted, Sell it and get your self a Kawi z650rs, you will love that little hot rod. I do apologies if this seems harsh, I'm just saying it as I see, just as you are and I respect what you say and Thank you for taking the time and making the vid. Cheers.

You must be a few of the lucky people that haven’t had any of the wheels issue. I have had all the issues that you could imagine and RE haven’t been able to help me at all.
So tyres I only changed recently as they started tracking quite bad while changing lanes.
Paint issue - nothing done about it
      Speedo cable issue
Wheel truing issue for me was the most worst! So I gone a multiple times to the dealer and RE… literally nothing done about 😢
I have had nothing but problems with this bike.
I don’t ride it much in the rain, if I did I would wash it afterwards and keep it clean as possible.
I understand that it is a classic bike but at least better quality control over the major components like the wheels 🛞 🥹

Thanks for your video and sorry to hear of the bad experiences you’ve had with it. I’m currently shopping for a new Triumph Speed Twin or Bonneville and had also considered the Royal Enfield on and off. From reading some of these comments, as well as watching a bunch of reviews, many seem to agree that it is a great bike for the price. And for the price many seem willing to overlook the compromises made to be able to sell at such a low price. To each his own. I personally appreciate build quality, materials and precise engineering enough to pay more for it. I wound up selling my Indian Scout Bobber (a great bike overall) within a year because some of the details bugged me enough. This review was enough to help me cross the RE off my list and refocus on the Triumphs.

    • @wolfgetmedia3064
      @wolfgetmedia3064  5 місяців тому

Hi, Thank you for your comment and I really appreciate it. I personally think that the triumph's are built a lot better and with better materials than my RE for sure! You are right, not bad at all for the price and it does give you a lot for the price and smiles per ££ is worth it but if you want the built quality then definitely triumph will give you more satisfaction than this one. Some of the comments on here are absolutely nonsense but there are some that definitely made some valid suggestions and appreciate it. Personally I love the way this bike looks and it fullfills my want so I am compromising on the needs for it. I also had a gasket blowing out and the engine was leaking oil. I have had that fixed and it cost me a lot if I'm honest, consult trust myself to get it done right.
I would recommend that you try out the bike and see how you feel about it and if you like the look of it and the way it rides enough to sway you away from triumph then go for it. but I think you will fall in love with triumph.

Wow! Sucks the experience you have had with your Continental GT 650... and I just watched the last few seconds of your video 😟 I sure hope you are okay. That looked like a nasty fall.
I love mine and it is not going anywhere. I would buy it again in a heartbeat... Come on! For the price!?? I have been able to just get whatever accessories I want for it without much hurt to the wallet. I had a Triumph Thruxton R... that was a US$16K bike without the accessories I got for it!!! But I have not had the quality issues you shared in your video...
I just got back from riding through the mountains and it was a pleasure to ride. This was a 2,000 miles trip and I just loved every mile of it. No vibrations, no issues with cables, nothing...
I do agree on a few things you went over:
    1. Stock tires... yeah, I changed mine right after the break-in miles. I went with Bridgestone Battlax BT46 Sport Touring Tires (wanted Michelin Road Classics but got tired of waiting for those to be back in stock). Great tires and completely changed the road feel with the bike.
    2. Brakes... changing front pads with: EBC Front Brake Pads FA209/2HH and rear pads with: EBC Rear Brake Pads FA213HH - this solved the brake concerns
    3. Exhaust note, I went with inexpensive EMGO Cafe mufflers... they are loud. Actually sounds very similar to yours. But running down the road they just sound so beautiful. And much, much lighter than the factory cans.
    4. Headlight - replaced mine with the LED headlight from a RE Super Meteor 650
Again, I do hope you came out okay from that fall and that you can get your bike sorted out.

yeah I am ok, survived the fall and it was just my fault I had a lot on my mind and shouldn't have gone out own the ride if I'm honest. I have upgraded the brakes similar to yours from Hitchcocks motorcycles. solved that issue.
I think on the next video I will have to explain a little bit about how this bike is good also and really justify why I have said what I have said.
like the paint work though... think its really shocking though for my bike. just had the short straw if I am honest.

Yes the bike did need some customization as per my personal requirement but apart from that there has been absolutely no issue... I think you are being really hard on the bike... the words being used by you come to me as a surprise as I feel the bike is actually awesome in the price range... there is something really not right the way your bike is being handled... thats why you are facing issues. I am not sure about what is going wrong on your part but surely the bike IS NOT SO LOW IN QUALITY... U really need to relook into your view of perception... We are a group here of more than 60 people in Rayong and Pattaya that only rides RE, most are on Intercontinental and the GT, but also a considerable chunk on RE 350, Meteor 350 and older Bullet 500 and Trial 500. None of them had the issues you had.
It is a budget bike, and some parts are not super quality, but it's nothing to do with the mechanical issues you are having. Looks, that is another matter, that is a matter of taste, I don't like the looks of it much, but that is just me.
All aftersales services, as far as I understand have to pass through India, so you go to the dealer and claim a fault, it does to India to get approved and then the parts are shipped out to the dealer, as most do not stock much than oli filters etc.
So, I hope that you will give it another shot, and if you want to be more cruising and be on a newly developed bike, get their Meteor 650.

Hi. Plenty of us in UK obtained the Interceptor 650, from a local dealer. We have had absolute no issues you describe with any of them. No leaks. No brake issues and no problems with Ceat tyres. This model was built at a low price and allows upgrades to nearly absolute everything on them. Hear what you say about rear wheel finish and tyre balance. So our comment is get someone to balance the wheels correctly and you will be ok.. If it helps then do not power wash the bike as it will cause electrical issues. Otherwise they are built to a price. You get what you pay for. But they are a nice retro. If not happy go for the Kawasaki z650 or z900.

I have a 2022 Interceptor 650; it is the 46th motorcycle I have owned in 53 years of riding. I bought it in winter; before the first ride I removed the charcoal canister & air injection, cleaned all relay connections & switched to Hitchcocks relays, changed the exhaust & air filter, and added a power commander.
There are a million comments about the front suspension on social media; I find that the front end is firm and confidence inspiring for fast riding, however it is a bit too firm for bumpy roads. If every road was smooth with sharp bends, this bike out of the box would suit me.
I owned two Yamaha XSR900's previously; the front end confidence the RE650 gives me out-of-the-box is similar.
I have owned Ducatis (with Öhlins), Buells (best front brakes ever), & Triumphs which did not give me this front end confidence.
To be fair, I am not a racer, but could run mid pack in the fast group at a track day with the right motorcycle.
The brakes suck, the wheels are to heavy; but I have had no paint or quality control issues thus far; time will tell.
Motorcycle preference is a personal thing; there are too many variables in all of our lives to each judge the other rider without understanding their situation.
Motorcycles are items on a menu: if we eat the same food every day, or at the same restaurant, we are not qualified to pass judgement on an item we have not tried.
Motorcycles are like footwear: there are shoes for dancing, for hiking, for climbing, for biking, and for fighting; they come in varying degrees of quality, and in the wrong application, each will get a bad review.
With footwear, we cannot have just one and be satisfied; the same goes for motorcycles.
Life is short; try something different off the menu, and when possible, try a different restaurant 👍

I'm sorry to hear of your experiences with your Conti. I bought my Glitter & Dust Inty 650 during the Spring of Covid, in May of 2020. After seeing the black paint chipping off your wheel hubs, I like my silver wheels and hubs even more. They look like new, with none of the finish peeling away, (and I live in New England). To get that level of corrosion, I'm wondering if you live near the ocean and ride on the beach? Other then the RE brake recall...(mine were fine), I've had no issues until last spring. With about 2,500 mi on the clock, I brought it to my dealer to replace the recalled calipers, I mentioned to the tech, when I spun the rear wheel on the center stand, it seemed like the wheel was out of true. The tech looked at it and said the wheel was actually out of round. The dealer called RE and RE agreed to replace the rim. Two weeks later, the parts were in. RE went way above what I expected. They replaced the complete wheel, (rim, spokes hub, tire, and another brake set up), with a completely new built up wheel. Done in one hour. I love my bike and yes, some of the bits are on the cheap side, but for $6,200 out the door, I'm replacing things as I go along. That's part of the enjoyment for me. Wherever I ride, people on the street stop and ask me about my bike. Typically, they want to tell me what a fantastic restoration job I did. Heck, I've had several middle aged woman, come up and ask me about it. How often are people moved to ask a rider about some loud plastic covered sport bike or your everyday Harley? I'm so impressed with Royal Enfield, I'm looking at getting a Himalayan for dirt road riding.

I've had an Interceptor for 10 months and about 2,400 miles. I'm still happy with it. It checks quite a few boxes for me: it looks great, sounds great, great gas mileage (about 55-60mpg) handles well, lots of aftermarket stuff. It'll cruise all day at 75mph no problem. Power and torque are plenty for most purposes. The six-speed gearbox is nice. The brakes work fine, the ergonomics are fine. It has a likeable personality and it's gotten *a lot* of compliments.
But it's not a bike I'd want to ride to Alaska on. Or probably even 200 miles. The reason being that the suspension and seat are both stiff and kind of cobby. Around town it's fine but it wouldn't be fun riding it all day long. That and the foot pegs demand you work around them some because they're in the way when you put your feet down. The right mirror vibrates (the left one is fine) and it's hard to impossible to read the digital gas gauge in bright sunlight. Those are my only complaints.

If the bike does everything, what skills does one develop as a motorcyclist ? The beauty of a retro motorcycle is that there are minimal electronics and that makes it a simple. Its pure motorcycing unlike a KTM. Its your bike you have every right to complain and appreciate but theres another perspective to it. You cannot compare it to a modern motorcycle. The GT will last a lifetime but sadly the new age bikes won’t because the electronics of a modern motorcycle have a shelf life. But bro your video quality is just excellent ! Kudos !❤

I come from a racing background on dirt and track bikes. The Continental GT is a raw platform for custom mods and refinement. In my opinion this motorcycle has everything necessary for a dialed in race platform street oriented hot rod, capable of admirable track times. Harris frame technology, correct rake and trail, handling, turn in, are all there. Very easy to fine tune suspension components, different spring rates for rear, correct valving for front end and fork oil weight, add up to a serious excellent handling motorcycle. Brakes are fine on stock bike. If you want more aggressive stopping power, consider braided brake lines, better pads and upgraded brake fluid. Tires are an easy upgrade you can do on any bike to improve braking and overall performance, and go hand in hand with the brakes. The Continental GT represents one of the last bastions of old school charm, and definable balance of price and technology. The Continental GT/R Race bikes run basically stock motors with minor tuning, and lighter stainless steel exhaust systems and higher flow air box mods. Don't think of your bike as a lemon, but as a peach, with sweet satisfying returns. 🏁🏁

After a demo ride in 2019 I bought one a few months later. All I can say is that you may end up with a good or not. The consistency from the factor is a little off I think. Bit of a lucky dip. Mine felt misaligned. Steering was all over the shop. Same as my mates Interceptor. He was complaining of the same thing (we've both been riding for many years and on many bikes). I sold mine two months in, never felt confidence inspiring. Mate went to town on suspension upgrades front and back, didn't solve the handling issues, so my guess is look into the basics first before jumping to solutions (laser alignment, wheel truing). I must add that this year 2023 I was curious to try another demo at the dealership and again, a really, really nicely sorted bike. My suggestion is to any potential buyer is to buy an ex demonstrator (something you have tested before your purchase) or, buy a used one that you can test ride.

Thanks for your honest opinion. I agree that it is very annoying to buy a new bike that comes with problems. Some come with unsafe tires that have horrible traction in the rain, or cause the bike to wobble at high speeds. Some bikes show signs of rust when new, in the dealership. On some bikes, you have to install better brake pads. Sometimes, the rubber brake lines swell under pressure, and have to be replaced with steel enforced lines. Sometimes, you have to buy a more comfortable seat. Some very expensive bikes have vibrating handlebars, that can't be cured, no matter what you do. Some very expensive bikes have terrible suspension systems. Some bikes are in the shop, more than on the road. Some bikes put out some serious, engine heat on your legs. Need to do some serious investigating before buying a bike. Some bikes are very good quality, but have terrible dealership support. Considering al these things, I would say you have a pretty good motorcycle. 😊

You need to be aware of the usage of this thing 😂 Dont excpect things from a 8000€ bike that would rather be optional on a 15000€ triumph. Instead of complaining just buy one of these. Had absolutey no issues so far. Got 4000km on it. Still doing the job and the looks i was looking for.

Sorry you had a rough bike.
    Think you were really unlucky.
Been riding for 50 years .
    Currently running a 350 classic .
Although not a 650 still an Enfield .
Build quality is excellent. Castings way better than my previous Kawasaki 900 or the Honda before that although Hondas are a better overall machine
Had CEAT tyres several times in the past on trials, scrambles road bikes and cars.
They are a branch of Pirelli and are Enfields are mid compound .
Nothing wrong with them in dry or wet once scrubbed in.
Had way more spoked wheels on bikes than mags never had any of the problems you discribed .
MX bikes and off roaders in general use spokes for a reason they are way tougher than mags being in tension not compression
Hope you have more success with your next bike.

Its a shame that your bike doesn't live up to your expectations, it seems to me that you didn't look so much before purchase, (power, breaking, suspension, it is not a performance oriented bike) unbeatable for what its cost. The hubs paint its something unheard of tho, did you use too much water pressure when wash them? I think you did a nice work on personalization tho.
I own a GT 650 and after 35.000km the only issue was some water inside the clocks and they replaced it for free. No one I know have the same or any of the issues that you mentioned. I know up to 30 ppl from a RE Motorcycle group, everyone of them either with a GT or an Interceptor, haven't heard a thing that you mentioned. A couple of them had issues with a sensor and again, they replaced it for free... 3 year warranty unlimited mileage here. I do actually love the
GT and maybe will get a second bike of a different kind as for ADV riding.

Ah it sucks when the bike doesn’t hit your expectations. I ride a 2021 GT and haven’t had any such issues so far.
Also I feel you should have done a bit of more homework before buying this one, coz you mentioned that it’s underpowered and brakes aren’t upto the mark, it’s heavy etc. These are the things one can figure out from a spec sheet and an extensive test ride pretty easy. @@wolfgetmedia3064 What you're referring to is sentiment, which soon fades once one see's the bill. RE had a chance to reestablish their brand. But, they settled for mediocre cause they felt the larger market (India) would accept it, which they did (Indian consumer). But, now, things are changing, larger brands such as Triumph and Harley Davidson to name a couple are joining hands with Indian manufacturers to create quality bikes for a reasonable price. Quality for half the price due to reduced production costs. RE should've cashed in on that when they had the chance.

Sounds like you have a Friday afternoon machine I'm sorry to say.
Had mine for just over 12 months, 9,000km, ridden through winter as a commuter.
I was always going to remove the stock pipes, change the indicators and rear light anyway, but I would likely do this on any bike I bought.
Never had any issue with wheel tracking, hits 120-140kph on the motorways and tracks perfectly, no wobble/judder.
To be honest, I would still rather buy the cheaper bike and use the thousands saved to upgrade it, rather than buy a bike that costs 5k more and and then still spend more on changing the same parts as I'd change on the GT.
Does seem like you've had s#itty luck with your machine.
I would agree with the paint on the rims, but mine has a few areas around the spoke that look slightly "bubbled" but no paint has lifted like yours, that is bad.
My speedo cable looks nothing like yours though, I have a pretty large amount of curved cable, probably 6-8 inches of loose cable.
Will defo have to check the cables under the tank at the weekend though.
Brakes are fine, I did upgrade the pads though at the first service. I'm not light at 210kg, and suspension and brakes are fine even when pushing on on back roads.
I also found the Ceat tyres a bit iffy in the wet, but not horrific. The bike certainly gives more confidence on the Bridgestone BT46's that I've stuck in.
Anyway, hopefully you get things sorted and to how you want it. Hopefully you don't have to much to repair and didn't get too beaten up!

    • @wolfgetmedia3064

Def give that clutch cable a check and if its wearing put a little rubber tag on it. also if you take the seat off, and move the tank slightly to the right from the handle bar side, it might solve the problem also.
I upgraded the pads and I have to say it was a must! The seat tyres are like old school retro looking tyre. I think for the GT they should have been a little bit rounded tyre tbh.
yeah I had a few things that's happened. The indicators broke, mirror was scratched. brake pedal bent back and brake hand leaver broke. But almost all of it is fixed including my sprained shoulder!

Brakes are adequate for the power. Short speedo cable? Then just freaking pull the excess from the headlight. And remove the shiiping plugs from the fork caps while you are at it 🤦🏻The rant about indicators is completely out of line... The flaking paint on rear hub just shows how the bike was treated and seeing how you wash the bike I wonder how that could happen. The crash is just cherry on the top... When you come to sell this bike on, I hope you mention all these negative points and adjust your price accordingly. However, you’ve dropped the bike which should be enough for a Cat-N, contact your insurance company, you might get lucky……..🏍️

Thank you for your comment I really appreciate it. Why do you assume that I would be selling this bike? Also why would you assume that I haven’t contacted my insurance? Also why would you assume that the damage would be enough for cat s?
Sorry buddy, people can hide behind texts very easily and speak their inner thoughts. Being a positive person I suggest you watch there next video where I talk about the how easy it was to work on. Sending you some positive vibes and peace

I get you brother, I too wanted to have a Triumph at less than half of it's price. How disappointing it must be to find that RE is just what it is - a 8 thousand euro bike.

WOW I am sorry you had such issues with your GT. I think you really need to go after the dealer on the issues of the speedo and rims. Others that that it is one of the easiest bikes to fix and work on. By the cables from eBay India and be happy. I have 19k miles and not one issue not on failed start I even have the stock relays in the bike. Once more you need to be yelling at your dealer until they fix it. Or just fix it your self and ride it.

I know man! literally the dealers have been crap! I did everything in my power but these guys are the worst! I did everything myself now. I ordered a 3 core sensor cable and I fitted it today. solved the issue. I think with the rims, ill find time and get them off and re spray them. Ill get it done professionally. Jeff going to follow this video up with the reasons why I made this video also talk a lot more about the good points of the bike. including the head turning! this bike turns so much heads while on the road! its unreal so will be making it for sure!!

Spokes on the tires I have never heard of before you, nor have I experienced it myself.
Speedo (from what I've seen myself going off police radars on the sides of roads), has a small difference. Assuming those are more accurate than my speedo, I've never seen more than 5mph faster than what the radar does. Honestly, that's a good thing to me. I'd rather think I'm going faster than I actually am lol.
Stock tires are fine. Worth upgrading when it's time? Absolutely. Most bikes are. But I just went over 6,000 miles on my rear tire, through New England winters as well, and I don't have any issues with my rims or performance.
Hating on indicators/lights is a moot point as they often have to follow certain protocols and standards, and again, that's something 90% of riders probably change out of style preference, etc.
I'm really sorry you regret your purchase so much that you wouldn't buy another. It looks like you've done a lot to it so I don't know why you didn't just get rid of it instead of doing a bunch of mods. They fully acknowledge it's a cheap bike and if you ask me, part of the reason they have so many things that are clearly budget parts is because they know bikers will want to replace those things anyway (lights, tires, exhaust, etc.). I appreciate that.
I think you made a mistake doing so much to a bike you dislike. You probably are in enough cash that you could've just bought a Triumph or something. And then you'd still probably want to modify some things. But such is life.
