They ain’t acting bro that’s they way most of us in New Zealand are raised! From a young age we learn Maori it is taught at most schools here and from your family as well. We are a proud culture and me being a metal head just makes me even prouder to see these boys do what there doing
I think the whole reason this band is blowing up is because its exposing the world to the other side of Maori that they're not used to. Also new having it mixed with metal, I've seen a lot of people loving it just because they're so entrigued by our culture and history. Hope you enjoyed from lil ol new Zealand! Churr!
I was intrigued by the culture when I first saw Whale Rider and it is only top 5 favorite movie list. To these kids, a great huzzah for them to keep their native tongue and heritage alive. The lyrics come from a place of defense, immense pain and a yearning to keep alive the traditions of the people by engaging the rest of the world in excellent music and exceptional lyrics.

Alien Weaponry is awesome! I love the maori even if I don't understand a word :D Check out Holding my Breath or Rū Ana Te Whenua by them if you haven't heard those.
I mean Max and Igor Cavalera were both around 15 when they started Sepultura, just like the de Jung brothers here. They even played the same instruments. Max sang and played guitar, Igor was on drums, just like Lewis and Henry here. The parallels are more than a mere coincidence lol.

they are 18 just won rock band of the year 2018 in NZ in te reo Maori. They are part Maori, speak fluent maori. This video is about the maori wars back 1800's, Tangata pronounced tongue na taa
You need to see them live. I got to see them at Bloodstock this year and they were flawless. They left the stage with the whole crowd chanting their name and begging for one more song.
I love the way these guys incorporate vocal harmonies and lighter elements to break up the "brutal" sound of the verses...gives the songs elements of light and shade. This one in particular reminds me of Roots-era Sepultura with the sound and indigenous influences. Its also crazy how many reaction videos there are for this particular song. I can see half a dozen just in the top half of my "Up Next" list.
Hey guys! I discovered AW in July, after seeing Machine Head, got home and put UA-cam on and these young lads were suggested. I have to listen to it every single day since! Big fan. Great reaction, dudes! \m/
Quality band, their great great great grandfather was a Māori warrior and died in one of the NZ Wars when the British invaded their land in the 1800's, their father is an experienced sound engineer and their manager, you can hear his sound engineering throughout the songs, so epic!
The ages are 16 and 18 I believe.I bought the album and its very good.Production could be a little better for the vocals though.I recommend checking out the album.
I think this song is spreading quickly, another channel I watch also did a review. I love this song, it too came up in my recommended videos. I can't wait to see where these guys go. I enjoy your reactions as they are very real and honest.
The reason the actors are believable is because us Maori have always kept or traditional values regardless of other peoples influences. Most of us where looked down on by Pakeha but most of us a half Pakeha anyway. But Maori like me also where taught traditions, that wasn't available in books
Robert Curry - The band members are cousins with them. They are from that tribe, but their cousins in the video are deeper rooted in it because they live in different parts of New Zealand. There are no “extras” all the people in the video are from that iwi.
I just discovered this band 3 days ago. I kept seeing them popping up in my recommendation. Holy shit they are heavy. The future of metal is going to be in good hands
I have been listening to them for a couple of weeks and just found out today they are babies. I like them even more now & found you guys on my journey learning about A.W. These kids are amazing! They hit hard & subbing to you.
Have you reacted to The Hu yet? They’re a metal band from Mongolia that blends metal with traditional instruments and throat singing. Recommend Wolf Totem to start with!
In the official video for *Rū Ana Te Whenua*, the Maori warrior is played by the father of Henry and Lewis (the drummer and guitar player). In this video, the warriors and the child are all played by people known by the boys and their families.
I came across this band just like you, through the recommend section of You tube. I agree this is a bit "softer" more melodic than previous songs and video clips
I found them too from recommended videos. I love how their vocals sound very guttural. The language rhythm is so perfect for metal. Refreshing! Very impressive young men for sure.
This song is spreading like fire in a dry forest. No wonder, as far as I know, there's never been a Maori metal band. :D I would love to see your reaction on Atlas Pain - To the Moon, I'm trying to support these guys and spreading their music wherever I can. Thank you guys.
I"ve been following them a couple weeks now. My wife researched them and they are 15. Only one of them is becoming old enough to drive. They can really shred. Check out the video for the song "Holding my breath" amazing.
Te kikokiko rekareka ō aku hoariri - (The sweet flesh of our enemies) - In case you didn't know, some of the Maori back in the day would eat their dead victims after a battle. Not because they were hungry, but more of a post-battle ceremony/rage/warning.
Thank you guys for introducing me to this band. I really did not know these fucking teenager. I am watching yours here in Brazil.I would like to thank you both for the amazing channel. Keep growing ever.
I heard them on Sirius XM and looked them up. Learning that sound came from a trio of teenage boys blew my ass away. The heaviness and rage coming from them takes me to my teenage years.
They remind me of when my son started out #UNDONE - All and All these guys did a bad ass Job worth this song and you can hear blood sweat tears heart and love put into each song. Keep up the hard work guys and stay on the roadyour on now and you will go far.
"its very slipknot-esque" is exactly what I said when my buddy zakk showed them to me. Lewis sounds a lot like Corey when hes actually singing rather than screaming.
i've seen them live in metaldays 2018... they fucking love to play... like they haven't realized yet they were on the second stage of metaldays. They have play thursday a 18h30 that's not nothing, even more for a group with one album and one ep... They were really good on stage, and more, they have fun to play and it's a real pleasure to see musician enjoying there time. They have given everything for this show and again it was fucking awesome. Waewae tapu takahi te ara taua !!
It also kinda reminded me of Sepultura in the early years. Not quiet from the vocals, but the guitars are fucking heavy and the folk influences...just awesome.
I love this band just a juggernaut real strong bass on it just pulls me in the Hakka is fear inducing anyway with metal backing it it's just awesome I'm going to get a day pass to the download festival just so I can see them they are going places for sure
Oh damn, I think Dave's got a new favorite band!! Ur gonna have to skootch over a bit Mesghuggah and Gojira. These boys are gonna played reeeeal loud ;)
I also hear the slipknot influence, absolutely love the fact that most of the songs are in Maori, really adds a lot of aggression. Great guitar tones and vocals. Look forward to hearing more from them
This is amazing!! Awesome song and video. Again thanks for featuring these new bands. At least new to me. Anyway loved it. Great guitar and bass. Liked the vocals. Did either one if you get a Fear Factory vibe from the song?
IIRC the De Jong brothers' ancestor (great, great ....? grandfather) was a chief who fought in this battle; this song and clip is about a true battle that occurred at that location. I hope I'm right- I read it somewhere else....
If you want in the description of the clip there is an explanation of the story tell in the song and the direct link between the band and the story. I really advice to take a llok it's really interesting
with WWE's history of entertainers from pacific islander nations and their love affair with driving hard rock/metal songs i could easily see this being someones intro music before the end of 2019
Tardy to the party here! Good review though. I would say that a lot of their songs are very thrash metal influenced... Super stoked for the success these dudes are having and wish them the best. These dudes really do go off!
actually those were all members of a maori iwi and that was a hapu, all three members are actually of maori tribal descent and members of a marae (cultural meeting house) so they use the language and videos to give none maori and the rest of the world a bit of the history that has long been buried by European colonist on how they treated the maori as they conquered new Zealand and how they subjugated and attempted to destroy the culture.
Alien Weaponry is killer - for the record, two of them are 14 and the drummer is 16 - at least as of their album release... Insofar as their sound, don't get much Slipknot, but a lot of Slayer and classic garage-band thrash - real old school, with a primal, tribal element... Lots of raw power, but if you check out the whole album, some of their songs show some finesse and polish you might not expect after hearing their more crushing songs...
They ain’t acting bro that’s they way most of us in New Zealand are raised! From a young age we learn Maori it is taught at most schools here and from your family as well. We are a proud culture and me being a metal head just makes me even prouder to see these boys do what there doing
The 2 brothers have also Maori heritage, from their father's side

@Morgasm172 You're actually kind of special.
@Morgasm172 You're welcome bby uwu
FYI - they weren't actors, but members of a Kapa-haka group - they are all Maori (and I believe from the same tribe)
And cousins of the band members.
MajesticDemonLord 2 tribes
It's called iwi not tribes lol
yes but iwi means tribe.
@@keybladerasta4142 yes the proper way of saying tribe in maori is iwi

This song is spreading like fire in a dry forest. No wonder, as far as I know, there's never been a Maori metal band. :D
I would love to see your reaction on Atlas Pain - To the Moon, I'm trying to support these guys and spreading their music wherever I can. Thank you guys.
I"ve been following them a couple weeks now. My wife researched them and they are 15. Only one of them is becoming old enough to drive. They can really shred. Check out the video for the song "Holding my breath" amazing.
bloody awesome friendly metal heads , all the way from australia here mate
\m/ !!!! \m?
Te kikokiko rekareka ō aku hoariri - (The sweet flesh of our enemies) - In case you didn't know, some of the Maori back in the day would eat their dead victims after a battle. Not because they were hungry, but more of a post-battle ceremony/rage/warning.
Thank you guys for introducing me to this band. I really did not know these fucking teenager. I am watching yours here in Brazil.I would like to thank you both for the amazing channel. Keep growing ever.
Edson Freires Thanks pal!
I heard them on Sirius XM and looked them up. Learning that sound came from a trio of teenage boys blew my ass away. The heaviness and rage coming from them takes me to my teenage years.
if Slayer and Sepultura moved to New Zealand and had a child
They remind me of when my son started out #UNDONE - All and All these guys did a bad ass Job worth this song and you can hear blood sweat tears heart and love put into each song. Keep up the hard work guys and stay on the roadyour on now and you will go far.
"its very slipknot-esque" is exactly what I said when my buddy zakk showed them to me. Lewis sounds a lot like Corey when hes actually singing rather than screaming.
I love this song, can’t get enough of it.
i've seen them live in metaldays 2018... they fucking love to play... like they haven't realized yet they were on the second stage of metaldays.
[DE].fekt *tribal, not "folk".
Indeed
alright guys... 2 years on and its time for u two to redeem urselves. plz share again new thoughts and ideas of this song.
Alien Weaponry are light years ahead of their game, hence the name I guess
Loving the debut album, it feels that it has taken off from where Roots Bloody Roots finished. Sweet as!
I saw them Sat opening up for Black Label Society. Very cool guys!
Homies, great band .
This band are fucking amazing.
We definitely got a few different vibes. Its the raw agression and energy that makes them relatable to different bands.
In this case, I'm pretty sure it's the more-or-less even mix of rough and clean vocals. That's the similarity that I noticed.
My friend from California recommended them to me and I was disappointed I hadn't discovered them already being Maori myself
IIRC the De Jong brothers' ancestor (great, great ....? grandfather) was a chief who fought in this battle; this song and clip is about a true battle that occurred at that location. I hope I'm right- I read it somewhere else....
I get goosebumps and stank face from this song
Slipknot? I dont know, guys. I can see pretty clearly Sepultura idea as we see in Roots album.
AS PACIFIC ISLANDER-- I AM SO OOOOO FUCKING PROUD..!!!!
Cool video. It's pronounced tounge a tah
This reminds me SO MUCH of Soulfly or late Max era Sepultura. Definitely music I can groove to!
If you want in the description of the clip there is an explanation of the story tell in the song and the direct link between the band and the story. I really advice to take a llok it's really interesting
with WWE's history of entertainers from pacific islander nations and their love affair with driving hard rock/metal songs i could easily see this being someones intro music before the end of 2019
Great commwntary guys well done. Alien Weaponry aee my fave
😳damn...that was EPIC🤟😜
They are actual “Maori tribe people”.
Tardy to the party here! Good review though. I would say that a lot of their songs are very thrash metal influenced... Super stoked for the success these dudes are having and wish them the best. These dudes really do go off!
chur nz is getting noticed
Yeah Great Video, Great Song, Great Band \m/
9:00 you are totaly correct i agree with you very good point
they are real Maori people..they are the boys whanau(family) from their tribe..
Why does the dude on the right look like Dominic Monaghan when he plays Mary in LOTR?
And a handsome version of Gimli on the left haha
*Merry
I just came here for the reaction but why does the guy on the left look like Rollo from Vikings lol.
Because if he didnt then we wouldnt get great comments like yours
a new sepultura in the making..
love it
This video is so cool and can I suggest that you react to holding my breath by them
everybody in the vid relatives ,friends family
Wow! This band is awesome.\m/
Carach Angren T-Shirt. Fck yeah. Those guys are awsome
lol just now seeing this video and yeah carach angren ftw
Thought the dude on the left was lobotomized until he said holeeshit!
actually those were all members of a maori iwi and that was a hapu, all three members are actually of maori tribal descent and members of a marae (cultural meeting house) so they use the language and videos to give none maori and the rest of the world a bit of the history that has long been buried by European colonist on how they treated the maori as they conquered new Zealand and how they subjugated and attempted to destroy the culture.
😡🤘 #respect Tino pai to mahi Korua. (great work you two)
WWE needs to use this song for one of their WWE superstars that would be such an epic entrance song
Greywulfken We have been listening to Tu all week. Our review is scheduled to come out later today.
I think the slipknot reference comes from the opening riff.. similar to before I forget.. these guys are going to blow up! Love this track 🤘!
Hungry Lights - Fothcrah
Check out 'PC Bro' by them
They have toured with slipknot and kill switch engage.
