- Thank you to "dime" member kneesfudd for circulating these great silent film clips from the very first date of 1975 USA Warchild tour in Asheville NC Civic Center. Here is my audio synced version. There is no circulated audio recording from this show so I had to make due. Short clips but historic.

I remember these concerts, It was GRAND. Saw my first one in 71' Saw Passion Play, and they blew me away. Best Prog/ Rock Band ever.
I was at this show center floor about ten deep back from the stage with friends. Joe Griffin, Scott Masengill. Mike Owen, and Mark Moser of Brevard, North Carolina. At 15 years old, our minds were blown.

I attended this concert when I was a student at Christ School in Arden, NC. FANTASTIC that this footage exists!
I too was at this show. Tull had spent the week in Asheville getting the show ready for the road...
The best band in the history of mankind at its best.
Twenty one days after this happened, I saw my first ever Tull show at the LA Forum on February 4th 1975 ... it was so damned mind blowing that I would go on to see 61 more, including two in the past two weeks! Thanks once again TullTapes for putting together these little archaeological treasures ... "invest your life in the memory bank ... ours the interest ... and we thank you."
TuLLHead - I saw them in may same year in Zagreb Croatia (former YU).It's imposible to forget this gig.The opeinig: Martin flyes from left side of the stage to the right part, like he is catapulted, and starts with riff from midle of "Wind Up"!Jeffrey flyes from right side to the left and join the tune.Ian apears in this minstrel outfit, and sings until they inmmediately jump into one of craziest parts of Passion Play!!!
In one moment Ian trows his flute from left side of the stage, and John Evan catch it on right side, while still playing with another hand.It was pure visual and musical magic!!!
I think it was 25th of May, and Ian later said in one interview, this night he first time made love with his future wife (in my hometown!)
It was my first Tull live expirience, and I saw them 5 more times during the years in different countries.This Warchild tour is one of most spectacular events in the history of live R&R performances.
Ian's voice was in fine form here. Really wish I had seen the band perform this early

I was at this concert in San Diego, Ca, the opening act was a flamenco-rock group called Carmen, they were very good but the Tull was sublime, I still have the concert program. Thanks for the memories

The base player for Carmen was John Glasscock. Who joined Tull after Jeffrey Hammond left Tull.

Hello from Asheville! I was much too young to see this but who know 26 years later i would see them in the smaller "thomas wolfe theater" upstairs from the basement civic center of this show. Alas, no saxophone at that one.

great sync job...astounding footage of Tull...they should have filmed this one...
Saw this in London at the Rainbow with the bosomy String Quartet. Forgot what an astonishing presence Jeffry Hammond was on stage. Tickets still taped on my Warchild album. "Some Grand Court Jester!"

they hit Asheville with the North Carolina symphony behind them -- Toured the rest of the country with just a string ensemble!

This is heroic of Tulltapes to construct...pretty much all we have from the three greatest tours ever: 72,73 and 75. The lack of official release material from those years is frustrating and mysterious. You know what I think? I think if we live long enough, like well past Ian and Jeffrey having a vote, a flood of high quality film will emerge. And you know why? Because Tull, by far and away my favorite band ever and eternally in a class of their own, years before milli vanilli and the like, were probably 'cheating' with pre-recorded material integrated into the sound and they are stuck in the mindset of not getting busted even though live/sample/pre-recorded bits and all manner of 'cheating' are beyond acceptable and forgiven by 2022. Everyone knows Jeffrey could barely play bass and everyone who saw Tull was amazed at the precision, complexity, perfection and overall magic of the material, night after night. Tull were probably 'cheating' a little or maybe a bunch. Who cares? And they don't want us to see films that will make it evident ( remember Giddings not playing on Budapest clip?). All is forgiven, Ian, Jefferey, Dee...now share the films !!!

Unfortunately, despite the genius, a largely unappeciated piece. Seriously underated.... amazing live repoduction of absolute musical prodigy.
Well, not so good on the film in sound quality, but I've seen TULL in-concert 8×...

Hello wonderful person who posted this... I was there! Is there any chance you snipped out the part where the "zebra" walked on stage played by two roadies? The hind roadie dropped striped tennis balls behind them and Ian Anderson picked them up and said "ah. zebra sh*t!" An article I've seen says bassist Jeffery then juggled the balls but in my memory it was Ian who did the juggling...
When they were in Greensboro in August of '75, Jeffrey was doing the juggling.
I think that was 75 and Ian said 'you can't say Tull doesn't have their shit together'

It was a Zebra suit, which matched the two men in the zebra suit which excreted balls of striped zebra 'shit'.

The video is doing weird things ... but it looks like it is doing it in time to the music so whatever it is it's a cool effect!
These older renditions of songs are so much punchier, today some of the lives stuff just gets phoned in for elevator music ... this is great to listen to - love it, thanks.
It was 1975 lol. That's what it's all about. But also, Ian was into the Elizabethan minstrel thing at that time, and the band in general was larger than life. I mean look at Jeffrey's outfit. Not exactly jeans and a t-shirt.

Asheville was one 'backwoods' place to start a major tour. Charlotte was more appropriate.
I bet they got a steal renting the Asheville Civic Center for the week. Ian was always an astute business man.
They played Greensboro later that year in August, the night before Ian Anderson's birthday.

@@rocksteady9115 yes... but only 2 songs, which I love by the way, but still not a "proper" live album. Also, in 1970 they were great but still not at their pick. IMO a first live album should have been released between 1972 and 1975.
@@eribaldoyes3883 I think then 72-75 they played tons of taab and passion p, I personally think the condensed version of taab was better ,so 78 worked better for me
I've listened to lots of bootlegs from 72-75, they had a much rawer sound, plus the silly stuff doggie in window, hare lost spectacles etc wasn't really good, just my opinion of course
@@rocksteady9115 Yes, somethings like the doggie could have been edited, but their sound was so much powerful, and Ian´s voice was at it´s best. In 1978 he already had some problems and he sounded a little scraped and nasal. Also, until 1977 Martin used the Gibson Les Paul and he sounded brutal. In Bursting Out he changed to "Hammer" guitars and although it sounds great, it´s not the classic raw Les Paul sound. But anyway, just details here and there.
@@eribaldoyes3883 Martin used a Gibson SG for Warchild Minstrel tours,but tbh I prefer his Hamer Sunburst tone on Storm watch, Dark Ages is his best ever tone imo

Well, their just like the late medieval and Renaissance pants, as well as minstrel in the gallery and thick as a brick also in Parts was Inspired by late Renaissance/Baroque music.
