      How is it holding up? Is it worth my upgrade from T450S ?

      battery77 I can’t be more happy with the performance and battery life, can’t comment on the 450 upgrade, I personally had a 420 earlier.

    Have been using ThinkPads for a long time! I have some "Pads" from back in the days....(T-410 / T-420 / T-430) and they have never let me down. (Bear in mind, I run Linux on them!....so a lot of the "no longer supported" issues don't apply) and they're all recently upgraded with 2.5" 1TB / 2TB ssd's...16GB of RAM (max is 8GB on the T-410) and running one version or another of Linux distros. For the life of me?...I can't see the appeal nor the attraction to these newer laptops with like....TWO ports on them! I need connectivity, and not through a dongle, but from the device itself! VGA.....DisplayPort....USB.....3.5mm audio....etc. I'll continue to buy these when I run across them on e-bay because they're the perfect blend of all things.
    As for the newer ThinkPads?....they're not bad, and they still come with ports...I prefer the latching mechanism for closing it....to ensure it STAYS closed, but they're really not that bad, and they're even faster than my daily-use older Thinkpads. I don't think I'll move off from the ThinkPad line, I've tried Dell's XPS series....both the 13" and the 15".....I've had Dell Latitudes, Precisions,.....I've also tried Toshiba's Tecras, MSI's gaming laptops, and an Aorus. All nice machines in their own right?.....but to me they can't compare to the practicality, and feature set of ThinkPads. I know others will come at me with their MacBook argument...but to me the ThinkPad series has been and always will be the end-of-the-line for laptops!

    The T480 is the same machine, just not as thin LOL, its not rugged, you want rugged look at the Panasonic Toughbook or the Dell Latitude E6420 XFR, those are rugged. I wonder why Lenovo never made a fully rugged laptop to compete with the Toughbook and the XFR? Its not like price is a problem those Toughbooks and XFR's are/were expensive.

      oh I used E6420 and E6430 for a long time (E6430 was my favorite). They were like a brick. Literally. Heavy and bulletproof. You could use one of them as a Kevlar vest.

    The T480s offers up to 24GB RAM, this is its appeal over the X series. The T480 goes up to 32GB but is quite a bit thicker.

    • @MrDragonorp
      @MrDragonorp 6 років тому

      agaskew also alot less battery if you are not using the external one.

    • @djmcwill1010

      As I understand, contrary to any spec sheet from Lenovo, you can successfully drop a 32GB stick in the open slot for up to 40GB, net.

      agaskew Yes, I agree I just got a 480s and was going to get my dad’s X series because it was much lighter(for school) but I ended up not doing so because of the Ram upgrade. But the X also has a much better trackpad(glass) and Screen brightens.

      The T480 goes up to 64 GB, by the time they listed the maximum memory for it there weren't 32 GB memory modules yet

      I just sold a T430, and bought a T480. Still have an X220t and a T400. Both still work fine and both are running windows 10 just fine as well, I did upgrade them both to SSD's however.

    • @djmcwill1010
      @djmcwill1010 5 років тому

      Sold my T420 a year or so ago. Miss her daily. It worked. Always. Suspend, sleep, Linux, OpenBSD, blah, blah. Absolute tank. Those keys just kiss your fingers... lol

    does any models still have an express card reader; or some usb3.x device to give a external express card reader ?

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 6 років тому

      What express card do you have that you can't get a USB version of? I think express cards have disappeared, My T430 had one I think but I believe the T430 may have been the last one with that option?

      15 if you wont movie it, but I personally like smaller machines.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 6 років тому +1

      Either is fine, you can easily plug in a 2nd larger monitor if its going to stay at home, may as well get a dock and just keep it docked. That's how I had my T430 setup, just had it in a dock with a 2nd monitor, worked just fine, makes it nice for multitasking without having to flip between different programs as much.

    unfortunately it only has 1 USB-C port , which means you can't connect any other USB-C device while it is charging

    Just take care to not buy it with shit TN display. It is 2018 and Lenovo still sells their thinkpads with shit TN display. Be sure you are ordering the model with IPS screen.

    • @rudolfdsouza9074
      @rudolfdsouza9074 6 років тому

      @Petrosmalk I disagree. Lenovo makes excellent and durable laptops. Still using a 4 year old thinkpad T410 Core

    • @petrosmalk3150
      @petrosmalk3150 6 років тому +5

      I think you didn't understand me. I did not say thinkpads are crap. They are surelly very well made laptops and they are really durable ones. What I said is that the display technology called TN is crap, because it has a terrible view angle and terrible collors. This is a very outdated technology and Lenovo is still selling some models with it. I just warned people to buy the models with IPS technology, wich are much better.

      @esemes16 6 років тому +2

      I mean, these aren't for consumers, these arent for UA-cam, or even Video editing, they're for VMs, and business things where, as long as the screen works and is clear, it doesn't matter how the colours looks.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 6 років тому

      They work on UA-cam just fine. You just pay more to get a newer clear screen you can see at an angle better LOL.

    my question is what is the point of 180 degree fold

    • @VuthavadooVikshay
      @VuthavadooVikshay 5 років тому +4

      So one day, when you accidentally open it too much, it will not damage the hinge cause it opens 180 degrees.

      This adds additional functionality for certain scenarios, such as integrating these in modern kiosks, concierge, cop cars - to name a few, you get the idea.

      Good question! I’ve always wondered the same; this seems like a talking point for many reviewers, but I never appreciated the benefit. Glad this pulled some interesting responses.
