Hello I am interested in converting an e-transit. Can you use your onboard e-generator to power an HVAC system? Can you use your front cabin HVAC system to regulate the temperature for an 8 hour period?
@@joshuacoolidge5995 Hi, Joshua! It's nice from you and of your really cool interest in the e-transit. I bought my E-Transit about 15 months ago, so I'm still learning, but I'll do my best to answer your questions. *I haven't tried to run any kind of an HVAC system in my van, so these answers are formulated from what I do know/have learned through ownership of my e-transit.* 1. By my "onboard e-generator," are you referring to the portable power station that I referenced in the video? If so, you probably could, but it would have to either be a really low wattage heater or cooler or be used for extremely brief periods of time; I don't think you would be able to run any kind of HVAC item continuously unless you invested in a massive portable power station; my portable power station is small at only 80Ah. If you happen to be asking about using the ProPower OnBoard that's installed from the manufacturer, I wouldn't suggest it because that system runs off the house battery -- which you'll need in order for the van to have enough power to actually be drivable, etc. 2. As far as using the front cabin HVAC system for an 8 hour period, I doubt it, regrettably. Because the cabin HVAC also runs off the house battery, i.e., there is no other battery, and the house battery gives you about 130 miles or the equivalent of energy -- my best guess is that the entire vehicle/house battery would run out of energy/power and completely shut down after a few hours. This could leave you stranded, and charging from 0 miles to 130 miles takes about 13 hours on the normal chargers that you'll find around town. I have struggled with heating and cooling my van, too, but as I learn more, I'll do my best to pass that along. I hope this is helpful, and I hope to hear about your e-transit journey if you decide to give it a try 😀
@@GoMandiMartin thank you for your help. I like the electric transit but I wouldn't be traveling very far with it. I need the heating and air conditioning. I'm just trying to figure that out. I'm interested to see what solutions you come up with. I was hoping the house battery was big enough to run something for 8 hrs. And still have enough charge to get to a station
@@joshuacoolidge5995 Hey, Joshua! That's completely understandable. My van is fully insulated, and without an HVAC system, it routinely stays 10 degrees above the outside temperature, so when the van is 105 in the summer and 50 (so far) in the winter, it's quite the challenge. I was just looking up some stats for my battery: I have a 2022, and my house battery is 68kWh/151Ah. My solar battery is 180Ah, and my small portable power station's battery is 80Ah. As a thought, do you know the wattage of any portable HVAC system you might want to use if you decided to steer clear of the house battery? If you used something small, i.e., 60 watts, the portable 80Ah portable power bank should be able to run the 60 watts for 16 hours (80Ah+960 Wh. 960Wh divided by 60 +16). I know it's hard to find small wattage items, and you would need a way to recharge the power bank, etc. each day. Maybe a combination of a portable power bank and a portable solar panel? Here's what I use presently, but I haven't tried it on any HVAC as my present focus is powering the fridge because hangry is a real thing haha: 1. portable power station: amzn.to/3zlfnhr 2. portable solar panel: amzn.to/47Gt333 I do have a 200W solar system, but I'm still learning about that as well 😀 I hope to have lots of videos of my findings very soon. I'd love to hear if you learn anything from your research as well. Until next time, Mandi

Its for Ebikes so I really have some moving up to do. I have such a sweet deal with them though. I have a solar bike project planned. Anyhow great video. I love how you went over everything.
