31:41 "Yes, this is long. This is a lot of stuff." And it's appreciated! If someone has a problem with the length of these kinds of videos they can just pause them, go do something else, and watch more later. Or read the manual, or just figure it out themselves.
THANK YOU for taking the time to go in depth like this.

Bought this camera today and I can't express how much this video helped me.
    Previously I owned 6D Mark I, that I bought back in 2014.
Original 6D was straight forward, but there's a lot more options in this camera.
Again thank you, Jared, for taking the time to make this informative and, as always, up beat video!

Jared another time that's great for using the screen and not the EVF is when you're dealing with shooting clients who aren't comfortable with cameras. It can help to be more connected with them by not "hiding" behind the camera.
Slso for auto-iso I use this for events with changing lighting and use the top rear wheel to change this when I want to control it up or down quickly and easily. It's the best of both worlds to my mind

Jared, thanks so much for making this! The plane of focus is important for video, and more specifically when using it for cinema whilst in manual focus. The DOP takes a tape measure and calculates exactly the distance between the camera sensor and the object so that they can nail focus 100% of the time.

I think also for mounting the camera on a mount this can be important to put the sensor exactly above the point of rotation so there is less shift of perspective... (not 100% sure on this though, it is the case for instance with a telescope, you want to mount it like that in a mount too)

Seems tedious. You could have just downloaded the R6 advanced user guide from Canon's site. Also, Roberto V. has a detailed 6-part series on the R5/R6 menus, published last September. One would think a Google search would include the youtube domain.

I've had my camera for almost 3 years now. Got it back from sending it in for maintenance and Canon reset everything. I'm lost - it's frustrating, I feel like I'm a first time photographer again. So far the coolest thing you mentioned after 30 seconds is the grip. I've always wondered why a lot of photographers choose to add so much bulk and weight to their camera. Now I know! Batteries! I might have to purchase a grip now.

When I bought my Canon 90D, you user guide was the one I watch to learn all about it and found it incredible useful. It was a guide and I then did a lot of experiencing on my own to discover for myself what the camera could do. I am about to buy a mirrorless and the Canon R6 is my camera of choice. Once again I am watching the user guide for the R6 and is again proving to be most helpful. It looks a lot like the 90D menu, and I am saving lots of time selecting the setting which are most helpful with your guide. Thanks for the user guides Jared, saved me time and have taken what I consider some nice pictures, and looking forward to getting the R6. 👍👍😍😍📷📷

Hey Jared, The sensor plane mark on the camera body is there for serious video people. Someone explained it to me once, but the Hollywood type of video shooters that use the very expensive arri tripod heads are designed so that they can pivot the camera up and down with the pivot point exactly lined up with the sensor plane. It prevents some kind of distortion (see scheimplug principle). Anyway, that is one reason why that mark is on the camera body.

The location of the sensor is the plane from which the distance to the plane that is in focus is measured. That can be handy to know for macro photography (do I have enough room here), or perhaps for some video use.

    • @SeppoIivonen
      @SeppoIivonen 3 роки тому +1

Another use for the sensor plane indicator is panning. You might want to keep the sensor plane right on the pivot spot to minimize any distortions. In good design the tripod mount is also on the same sensor "depth" (as it is in R6), but on some tripod / lens / gimbal setups it might not be, and you benefit from knowing where it is.

Jared great video for all beginners but you had one mistake in it.
    Long Exposure noise Reduction.
    It works different.
Firstly it will just apply if your exposure is at least a second long.
And then it doesnt apply some noise reduction.
Image you are out in the summer, shooting landscapes or whatever. Your Sensor gets hot.
When you take a picture´the cam will take a second picture after that for the same but with a closed shutter. It will make a so called dark frame. In them the cam will just see black but also the hotpixels because of the overheating.
It will then substract the second image from the first, so it substracts the hotpixels from your image. Thats neat.
    Also it applys to raw.
I use it all the time for my single exposure milkyways because it spares me time.
Hope you read my comment one day and reply to it :D

I think the symbol for where the sensor is, is for production companies who have a focus puller. That person can then figure out the exact distance from the sensor to the subject. Don’t know why it’s on these cameras that nails focus anyway but I think it’s just an industry standard at this point.

You can never over simplify. I didn't need the first 20-30 minutes of this video but watched it anyway to see how you you approached teaching the basics of the R6 to somebody who is newer to photography. Great job! Your R6 review helped me determine it was the full frame upgrade I wanted to go to from my crop-frame 70D. Not only have I not been disappointed, I have been amazed at the step level increase in technology and capabilities. I am also very happy I watched a prior video of yours that about DSLR versus Mirrorless camera which steered me away from the 5DMK4 or other DSLRs. Mirrorless is the way to go! This setup guide was a great overview BEFORE diving into the product manual. I have a good understanding of all of the menus now. Another fantastic Fro-fest of photographic knowledge!

Jared, thank you for making this video. I just got my R6 and didn't know where to start! Now I've been through all the menus for photos (not video yet) and I think I'm good to go... go out and see if the camera does what I'm hoping! I really appreciate the work you've put into making this video.

Back button focus is useful in some circumstances. e.g. if photographing birds which the camera eye focus has problems with. And at times the AF decides that it does not approve of the place where you want it to focus on.
When photographing a white ptarmigan with a single dark feather, the AF will be thinking that the dark feather is the eye. Been there done that.

I swear the video was so long, pain in the ass. But what can we do. I think you explained everything well. I've used Eos 600D years ago so this new mirrorless Eos 6 had a lots of new things for me and while watching this video I learned to use it a lot better. Im much more confident now to go to shoot my first pictures tomorrow. Thank you!

Excellent Video .. thank you !! I did what to add though for open shutter without lens , I use this with a Rokinon 14mm 2.8 mechanical lens as it does NOT communicate with the camera, so the open shutter function needs to be on without lens in order to take a picture. Took some time to figure this one out as i thought the lens wasn't going to be compatible with the R6.

Release Shutter w/o lense is impotant if you use full manual lenses without electronic contacts, mostly right now trough the adaptor since there are none on the native RF to my knowledge.
Without this set to ON the camera will not shoot because it doesnt know the lense is there. Example: Samyang 14mm f2.8 - a really nice and cheap astro photography lense. (yes there are newer options with contacts but the one i have is the most common one, the others just cost more)

Hey Jared: Even a dumb ash rookie like myself can tell you know your photography are really good at what you do, and are probably very successful at what you do. But what keeps me coming back for more, and why I just signed up (subscribed) today, is because not any of that has gone to you head. Your style is so cool & easy even a simple guy like me gets what you are talking in your videos. Question!! If you were to do a Canon R6 Mark II User's Guide, like your Canon EOS R6 User's Guide video, would they basically be the same? Thanks

    No mention of CRAW?
I have two back button focus settings. One is eye detection, the other is spot AF. That is ideal for birds/wildlife.
I have also configured the joystick to move the AF point without any other button being pressed.
