That brings back memories. I built that kit as a kid in the 1970's. It was repackaged by MPC with a diorama of a walled-in compound (Breakout from Normandy!).
Thank you.. I used a quite wet mix of plaster of Paris, so wet that it was easy to level out.. A small piece of Evergreen styrene 'square tiles' for the ruined floor, gravel and birdsand.. and the ruins are supposed to go at the bottom of an aquarium, but I bought them, just in case they came in handy.. like now.. :)
Very nice the gun tractor Sd.Kfz. 7 and the 88mm gun. Awesome result together with this well arranged diorama. It fits well in every respect. A good eye for the details. Something which makes the difference, Rob. Greetings and a nice weekend. Joachim
Thank you, Joachim.. :) I got the ruins in a pet shop, they are decorations for an aquarium.. but I bought them just in case I would ever use them.. and now they came in very handy.. :)
Thank you.. and great idea. Here you get both the tractor and the gun though, so no need to use another vehicle.. But I do have a 88mm gun in 1/72 scale as well, without a tractor. I may copy you and use a Hanomag when I get round to building it.. :)
You made that old kit shine again Rob! Its a cool subject and i have thoughts of doing something similar, but in 1/35 scale and with a different gun behind the tractor.
Great scenic work Rob. This is one of Airfix’s hidden gems, must be about 50 years old now, only the crew let’s it down a bit I feel (having said that I’m still raiding my spare’s box for them when I need a small figure with my scalpel in hand). Outstanding little diorama my friend. Take care, be lucky 👍 Pete...
Excellent build. I love the little diorama as well. What do you use for sand? And that little Roman ruin sets it off perfectly, was that scratch built?
Thank you.. I used ordinary 'bird sand' for the sand, it is very fine grain and doesn't look too large even with a 1/72 or 1/76 scale model (in my opinion). I wish I was skilled enough to build a ruin like that from scratch, but no.. it is originally a set of aquarium decorations., but I bought them quite some time ago, to use in a desert diorama, so they worked out quite well for this setting.. :) Thanks again..
@@BasicModelling Aquarium decorations! Classic. The things we do in this hobby eh? I always try to see the possibilities for just about anything lying around, but that is a good one. Worked out perfectly. Still using the old Humbrol enamel paints Rob?
You never stop amazing me with your builds Rob. Great choice of subject and an excellent scenery. Looking forward for your next project. Thanks for sharing, take care and keep up the good work my friend.
Yes, I took my time... ;) ;) I think it is great these golden oldies are still available and now being re-released as the 'Classic' range. It gives me and many others a chance to build them now, if we never got round to it when they first came out, or to build them again, for nostalgic reasons... :) Mind you, I was not very old in 1967.. certainly not old enough to build models.. :)

Thank you.. Sounds like a great kit, complete with base.. but I guess you still only got abou 4 crew figures?? :)
I've also got a sealed mpc boxing in the stash.
Nice job...model kit grom 1967 woow!!!
Yes, it is almost as old as me.. ;)
Great project! 👍
I enjoyed the build, it was a lot less complicated than I thought it would be.. :0
Beautiful work and dio. 👌👍
Thank you very much.. :)
Lovely work on a real Airfix classic. The base reminds me of Matchbox kits. Very well done Rob.

Amazing!!! 😃
Strange how airfix provided the mounts for the wire spools on the bogies but not the actual cable spools themselves.
Impressive. A very old kit can still make a very nice diorama.
Marvelous work. Nice to see you build armor subjects. Would of loved close up pics of the aftermarket crew figures. Ruins are kick ass. Bill
I thought I did take a close up photo of the figures before painting.. and possibly after. Should be in the video somewhere..
Good job! I built an 88 a couple of months ago. I used a Hanomag for a tow vehicle, though.

I love this Rob, beautiful work.
Thank you most kindly.. :) :) Happy New Year.. :) :)

Thank you very much indeed.. 😁👍

Pete...
Blimey - 1967!? It can still hold its head up today though, looking at that. Cracking job. 👏👏👏👍

Wonderful dio, love the ruins in the background...
Great video where did u get the crew?
Thank you... the figures comes with the kit.. :) :) And some I bought on ebay.. :)
thanks for posting this. It has defo helped in the building of my own. box has no instructions. Plan on a panzer grey finish, for France 1944
Sounds like a great idea. I am glad my humble video was helpful. Enjoy the build... 😁
The biggest difference between yours and mine is the 50 + years between the builds.
