Just found this build video. I also built this kit back in the 70's and a few more since then. I used the price of this kit to judge "deals" with other model kits; it also worked for pricing while stationed in Italy in the 70's. It was 20 Lira or equal to $20 USD for the longest time. Thanks for the memories.
Nice build, I've just ordered this kit after watching, I remember making it when I was a teenager (66 now). I shall follow your diorama build for tips. Thanks
Thanks Alan, it is a great kit, one of the iconic Tamiya kits i believe, i hope you have a lot of fun building it, if you want to send me some pictures when its finished to: halidon63@gmail.com Cheers 👍
Always good to see what you're up to.....nice build.....nothing like an older kit to bring back the nostalgia of youth 😁. Will await the next episode so thanks for sharing and showing!
I have just bought it again with another half track can't wait to make it was in the model shop he wanted 35 pounds for it but I already seen it on line for 18 pounds madness
Thanks for this informative vid. I just had to buy this kit as I got the German 8Ton half track very cheap but then realised I wanted something for it to tow!
I found this video as well but what really surprised me is that I never saw the build. Looks good completely built but a survey out of 10 i give you a score 3.John from australia..
just ordered this kit after watching your video. I have an AFV club one with PE but that kit just terrifies me. keep up the good work. really like the videos
Thank you, I am glad that you enjoy the videos. The kit is really good fun to put together, just a bit of seam line cleanup, but that,s not too much work, email me some pictures when you get it built I would love to see the finished job :)
HI Liam, all good down here mate, just freezing in the Melbourne winter. It is one of the classic Tamiya kits and is a lot of fun to put together, hope you are keeping safe and well mate 👍
Nice build. I'd echo your comments about researching- I had great difficulty getting my head around the camouflage on a King Tiger- photos from the 1940s are almost all in black and white so aren't that useful, and modern photos are of restored tanks so I didn't want to take them as gospel. Added to that, all the camo schemes seemed to be different, as on early models of the tank it was applied when the tanks reached the troops. In the end I just tried to apply the camo sort of randomly and hopefully not too much like RAF camouflage patterns, which is mostly what I've been painting for the last 50 years! The end result looks ok and as I couldn't find a definitive depiction of it, I don't think anyone can say it's wrong. I hope!
And at the end of the day mate, as long as you are happy with it then it is all good. I'm not big believer in absolutes, who knows what individual crews did to their vehicles based on circumstances, If i was sitting in an autumn forest full of red leaves, i would be looking for red paint pretty damn fast 😆😆😆
Fantastic update Glen its looking excellent i know what you mean about some of the old Tamiya kits. Will look forward to the next update keep them coming my friend
WOW, thanks so much Adam, I really appreciate your comment. I am honoured that you even took time to look at the video and comment, I am a big fan of your work mate, wish you were still uploading.
Yes, I remember buying this at a news agency back in the late 70"s and then going to my grandparents house and starting to build it on their kitchen table with a pair of nail scissors and a nail file 😀 There are a few extras in the box, but it is fundamentally the same overall.
Great video. Damn Steve projected himself into your video.🧐 🤣 so true about some books. I'm looking for photos of said vehicle. NOT their rendition, paintings/drawings of the vehicles. Especially if I'm paying 40 to 50 bucks for the dang book. Anyway looking forward to the next video.

Hi John, but this is the build video?
I too made this kit 45 years ago I remember it was quite expensive with the motorised harftack
It is an iconic kit, I would happily make it again 👍
Thank you. My instructions didn't mention those pins. Confused me till I watched your video.
Glad I could help!

Thanks Matt, all good here just trying to survive our crappy winter, at least it’s good weather for modeling 😄
Hahahaha it's been as cold as a mother in laws kiss here in Tasmania and the cold is not good for old fingers and small parts
A great build! And a difficult one at that
Felis Barcinonensis Thanks Felis, was fun to build and sometimes good to have a few challenges along the way, it’s character building 🤪🤪🤪
Nice work Glen she do be looking good, a fine shooty thing indeed. I like the plans for the dio should look great when finished.
Thanks John, you can see the great effort I put into the planning 🤪🤪🤪
This waa an excellent fucking review. I am known for reviewing kits and im sure ive never been this helpful or succinct.
WOW, thanks so much Adam, I really appreciate your comment. I am honoured that you even took time to look at the video and comment, I am a big fan of your work mate, wish you were still uploading.
Bloody awesome work mate, I have that 88 kit, Mr Hill sent me till next time have a good one mate.
Thanks Bilge Rat, its a good kit to build. Mr Hill is a good man, but of course hes an aussie :)
Nice model I built this in the eighties painted it as an Africa Korps version good times
Thanks Ian, yes they were much simpler times, I didn't know what the words stress, timeline or reporting in those days :)
Great work 👏
Thank you 👍
Haynes manual on the 88mm is a good book.
One of my favorite kits as a kid. Maybe late 70's early 80's, somewhere in that range. Looks like it's changed a bit from when I had it.

Hi Clayton, yes he’s everywhere, our relationship is like the movie Ghosts, except I hate it when I’m sculpting and he starts humping me 😱😱😱
Do you have any idea on how to procure replacements for the screws on this kit? I ended up doing a number on one of the heads
not sure, I think you can reach out to Tamiya directly and they have a spare/replacement parts service.
@@HalidonDioramas my local hobby store had a full set of replacements, that worked for me, but thanks
The classic
Cheers
Good.
Thank you 👍
How many hours? Mine took over 40 hours with the crew/troops to get it perfect.
hard to say, i didn't really keep track, but guessing something similar to 40 hours,
@@HalidonDioramas thnx for replying. Most people don't understand how many hours it takes to model authentically.
