@israelswearingen8219 for how busy he looks with working till dark on half his projects, time is more important than money, so I get it 100% that if something works it works until you decide it's worth the time to do something better. He'd probably just buy a cart to make it faster and easier than fabbin something. But it would be nice if he made something and used his big press brake to make it.
Boggles the mind that someone would take a torch to a frame like that just to remove a pin. Absolutely, incredible. Great work bringing this back to operational status. Really, nice work.
Who in their right mind would even consider removing a pin by butchering the mounts and bosses like that. Pure savagery. Awesome repair dude, my compliments
@@Onceayoungidiotsaw that when the video dropped..I'm no mechanic but definitely wouldn't have done what the mechanic done..good thing kurtis actually knows what he's doing 😂
That was a very very impressive repair!! I absolutely appreciate your attention to detail and wanting it to look like nothing ever happened. That’s a true tradesperson that takes pride in their work. Thanks for sharing that.
I thought I had seen it all before. But destroying the mount to remove the pin takes the cake. A pin is much cheaper than the whole unit. That was an amazing repair job. It's like it never happened. Great job making this video as well.
I’m 68 yrs old AWS certified 1976. Finally some one using a grinder like I was taught. Use the grinder as if it were a milling machine. Wind up with a flat surface and not a U shape crater! Enjoyed your video very much!
I've done some prity drastic thing's to get pins out but my goodness I would of never ever cut into the ears to knock them out, I have to say I watch all your video's and this one you have made this look absolute factor this is not to say anything about your other work you do because everything you do ends up looking better than it would came out of the factor if not better and stronger than new thanks for another great video Greg and a happy new year to you and the family and your employees.
Soak the pins for a few days and heat then some kind of press whether it be a very big hydraulic press or a shop manufactured press of some kind, but after soaking and heating a few times the pins might have come out with a big hammer, it's called patience 🙂
well that's one way of getting a pin out not the preferred way but you have to admit it's out the repair just shows us your skill set on thinking out side the box just have no words for it as fro not liking grinding and i am one of them you have mastered that as well you have saved this customer a shit ton of dollars for sure and he has a repair that looks like it was never done for sure just like your videos for the content and the how to get it done you are truly a master of your trade Mate for sure cheers from N Q Australia
I’m always amazed at your repairs. Anything from hard core plasma gouging to deftly grinding and reshaping back to like new condition. So rad to watch. Oh, and love the Newsom sticker on the welder lol!
I guess you are out of harms way with the fires. Greg you are a great craftsman. Very hard thing to come by these days. Lot of young guys in the trade think they are golden arms long way from that. Thank you for another great video.
But very costly for the customer which bothers me a Lot, I would call the customer and say either I don't have the right equipment or I'm not comfortable with this job and let them decide, I would never destroy something that expensive I'm guessing but that is probably over 10K to buy one if you could find it 🤔
Until you need a service because of time constraints or something. Then you're left sifting through a sea of idiots just to find someone competent who gives a shit about their work. Idiocracy isn't as fun in real life as the movie was.
I was jaw dropped when I saw the end result after you blended it you weren't kidding when you said I want it to look like no ones repaired it I'm always impressed by your skills h*ll of a job nice work
Really enjoyed your video. I used to be a welder/fabricator before my back went bad. I really miss it. You can damn near do magic with a welder and grinder if you're good at it. I was, and you certainly are.
Definitely not a torch job by our Texas Friend Isaac!!!!! LOL The crudness of some folk is always an amazement for me..... Greg, I know you are a pro but that is a beautiful blending on that first fill. I guess you must have a bit of artistry in ya also!!!! I love that Caterpillar Yaller...
That set of re-pads and plate are pretty hefty but it will still shrink and pull. When I fill a big bevel and can only reach it from one side, I always peen every pass with an air hammer with a blunted chisel. This is also an effective method of welding cast iron with 7018. I've been using this method for 35 years an have had great success. Give it a try.
That plasma cutter cart is definitely top of the line.
Not there is anything wrong with it… but if Curtis at CEE is doing a floor up on the Franna- Greg could at least make an off road plasma buggy ?!?

It is well into the "if it works, don't fix it" territory
Not the first time I have seen that setup, it might have been the exact same model of plasma as well.
Big fan of reusing what's available over buying more stuff. And the chrome finish on that cart gives it extra style points.
Amazes me how calmly you go about fixing these hatchet jobs. True craftsman.
Who gets excited about doing welding. You must be watching too many reality shows.
Boggles the mind that someone would take a torch to a frame like that just to remove a pin. Absolutely, incredible. Great work bringing this back to operational status. Really, nice work.
heavy equipment techs don't give a shit. customer should have greased his equipment. doesn't pay to operate on a breakdown maintenance schedule.
maybe the pin was worth more than the frame and they did not want to damage it /sarcasm
Non mechanics. No real training. Should have looked for advice on how to remove the pins.
Greg, I’ve been a heavy equipment mechanic for 20 plus years and I’ve never seen shit like that! Lol nice work on the repair.
Who in their right mind would even consider removing a pin by butchering the mounts and bosses like that. Pure savagery. Awesome repair dude, my compliments
I’m disgusted
deliberate sabotage? I agree it's nutso!
They had a cutting set up and it didn't occur to them to just cut the part they were replacing? Crazy!
Someone with a manager screaming "I don't care how! Just do it!"
Idiots = job security
I am only a handyman. NEVER would i cut out a bearing in this way. Cut the shaft not the bucket. Wtf it confuses my how some people think. ?
No kidding! Always cut/destroy the cheapest part. They nearly destroyed at many thousand dollar bucket to save a hundred dollar pin. Crazy.
If you don't know, you don't know. If the result is confusing it may confuse you how it came to be.
Think of it as the industrial version of U-Pull-It and all they wanted was the pin .
Never underestimate the power of stupidity.

I am impressed at how original you made that look! Great work my friend!!
That's a great save, nicely done as always, thanks for bringing us along 🎉

👏👏👏 You did an excellent job filling and grinding those radiuses. Talk about being skilled. 👍👍

The amount of work that went into this is really understated in this video. Amazing job that looks like new.
Brilliant idea with the shopping cart has a cart for a welder or a plasma. Another banger video!!
I did same but cut mine down more. Rolls nice and super stable
