    Installation is so simple yet to make it look nice is what scares a lot of people. To do it the right way you need to understand simple home engineering of what makes up a wall etc. You nailed it here man. I know how to do this with my eyes closed, but with your attitude I've stayed glued watching you work. Keep it up brother. Thumbs up from me.

      Thank you very much. This was a fun install and it's still going strong. I wish Nest would listen to customers and make some changes to the power cord so it doesn't need such a huge hole, but it still works. Cheers!!

      TnTBlast I am really sorry to hear about the injury! That really stinks. You are absolutely right about pairing the camera BEFORE mounting it outside on an eve that needs a ladder to access it. I really wish I would have done that when I installed it. Learn from mistakes I guess. Good luck with your recovery and hopefully you can get that camera installed soon. Cheers!

    I like the video, just now having seen it and looking at how others have installed. My only suggestion for new installation is to be sure to pair the camera first before mounting and also be sure to test the camera in the desired location; if you don’t have good signal at the location better to find out before final mounting.

    • @fireballmalone1
      @fireballmalone1  5 років тому

      I absolutely agree. After installing the camera I admittedly had some issues getting it to pair because I didn't do it first. The other cameras I have installed I definitely learned from that mistake. Thanks for the advice and I really appreciate the comment, cheers!

      It’s a spirit, trust me. They are all around us all the time. Most people just don’t know to listen for them. Might be an old friend, someone who lived in the house, etc. Now that I know to listen for them I hear them in about half my videos.

    • @fireballmalone1
      @fireballmalone1  6 років тому

      Swimbait1 I have so much footage I've filmed over the years save on hard drives. I may have to go back and listen with head phones on to see maybe I captured more. I've been in the house for 3 years now and it's the most comfortable place I've ever lived. There may be a reason for that.

    • @swimbait1
      @swimbait1 6 років тому +2

      If they know you are listening they reply far more often. No one hears them mostly. Some are lost and ask for help, some just hang out because they like it, some might be old friends, family. I have heard them in my videos at the top of the mountain, in a boat, at the store, in my yard while gardening, almost everywhere. The most I have ever heard was at a local museum. If you are interested look up Hope Paranormal, he has lots of videos recording them.

The audio is 2 way as well, you can talk through the camera using the app and have a conversation with someone in frame. There is a slight delay but it works pretty good. I have an outdoor Power Outlet already installed by the builder on the eave for Christmas lights, etc. It's close to the front corner of the house on the side of the garage. That's where I want to attach the camera... Would it be OK to leave all the cable and the connectors outside? I'd have to make a nice loop and secure the cable there... I don't mind if the cable shows... or maybe I can leave the plug end and the camera end outside, but hide the middle section coiled and hidden behind the eave (lift up one of the panels and store everything behind it. I don't have access to the eave from inside as it's in the garage and the garage is all finished.)

Mine is thin plastic and I’m worried about it holding the camera in high winds we get. Why the cover on the camera to make it blend to the color of the house? I’ve heard it said that the contrast is a good thing as it lets any would be thieves see it clearly and is a deterrent. Agree that it looks better to you and your friends and family so if burglaries are not a concern then it’s nicer looking.

    Are the screws mounting the camera to your soffit only through the vinyl soffit, or do they go through plywood behind the vinyl soffit? Doesn't seem like the soffit got compressed, so I'm wondering is the soffit strong enough to hold up the camera on its own? I'm about to install a few around my house, so been looking up others' experiences. Awesome detailed video! Thanks!

    What type of Anchorage did you use to attach the camera bracket to your soffit?
    It looks like you also have aluminum soffit on your house.

      It's hard to tell from the video but there is a stud I hit with one of the screws when I attached the camera. But, I do have a camera installed in a different area of the house that is only on the soffit and I haven't had any issues even with the point of view shifting after about a year. I hope this helps, Cheers!

      Jeff Shrimpton I thought about putting something more substantial for the screws to anchor to but it actually didn't need anything. I've even messed with the camera a bit for different reasons, wasp nest and hit by a bird, and it's held really well.

    • @fireballmalone1
      @fireballmalone1  7 років тому

      Danny Canes unfortunately one of the draw backs in my opinion is that part of the cord is attached directly to the camera. It can be made longer with adapters that other companies make but I don't think it can be made shorter. There is an inside camera that can be plugged directly into an outlet but I don't have my experience with those. Hope this helps.

      Jason Axisa Camio used to offer free cloud storage for cameras but I believe there's is now a fee. If you check r/nest on Reddit.com there are new posts all the time trying to find a workaround. I currently pay for nest aware basic which also gives me alerts by text/email based on multiple activity zones in the cameras view and the ability to set up time lapse and save video clips indefinitely for export or for later use. I have no affiliation with Nest so I am in no way trying to sell anything. I hope this helps and best of luck. ATB

    You mentioned in your video to be sure not to hit any power cords while drilling, would it make more sense to drill from inside the attic rather from outside? I'm a novice and this is not meant to be a trolling comment. Thanks.

    • @fireballmalone1
      @fireballmalone1  7 років тому

      Emanuele Caraccia i appreciate the question. If it's possible then definitely. Due to the pitch of the roof where I installed my camera there wasn't enough room to drill down. Where the line came up the clearance was only about 4-5 inches. I could have tried drilling at an angle but then I jeopardize drilling into my gutter when the bit passes through. I had to also take into account I knew exactly where I wanted it outside which is hard to match up from the attic. Hope this helps! Cheers

    • @enigma2483
      @enigma2483 7 років тому

      Yessir, that makes sense. I suppose that if you drill from the inside, then the metal could fray outwards looking worse than if you drill outside in. Secondly, how much rtv did you need. I'm doing 8 cameras and it seems to be sold most commonly in 3oz packages and I'm not sure if it's enough for 8 cameras.
